Social security is inherently unsustainable because it depends on a constantly increasing population/economy like we had in the 20th century. To make matters worse, social security has created an unhealthy dependency of the old and retired on the government. If we have another economic recession, as bad as the one in 2008, SS might die out for good, bringing catastrophic consequences.
