I actually liked the ending.
Or at least the idea of it, since it could've been executed better. Tsuneki brought out the best in Kamita by making him feel like he was going to get left behind if he kept slacking off. That's why he decided to focus more on his studies and go to cram school. And Kamita inspired Tsuneki both by the effort he showed in his studies and by his appreciation of her cooking.
They complemented each other by making the other strive to be a better person. And through that, it was a deeper, more substantial relationship than the vast majority of high school, hormone-induced relationships. I know a lot of you are upset that they didn't get their generic "good ending," but honestly Studio Gokumi didn't go far enough.
They messed up by making Kamita still pine after Tsuneki (he's keeping his career choice as a dietician a secret in order to surprise Tsuneki, and he's working part-time at Tsuneki's old place) and by making them meet up afterwards. It would've been so much better if they had the two date for a year, accepting their ephemeral relationship for what it is, and then moving on with their lives, which had
become enriched by meeting the other person.
But of course, Sup Forums can't stand anything that has even a hint of an adult relationship, and so you guys throw a tantrum when Tsuneki focuses on her own life instead of being with her high school (almost)boyfriend. It's pretty sad.

To me it seemed like they animated the good route and ended it with the bad or normal end. There is absolutely no way to explain the discrepancy between their development in that last episode, the kiss, etc. and them separating without ever talking in all those years.

It's remarkable in how they shat all over their previous efforts. The sales went down like crazy. Four episodes build-up ruined within five minutes.

I haven't seen last episode but Amagami's formular was always having main protag coupled with "best" girl that has some drama going on in either her private life, school life or social life.
The first three episodes of Seiren did quite the same so I wonder what could possibly ruin their happy end. The girl seemed bland but I ended up liking her alot. I am honestly scared to find out.
