Akko is mentally retarded. This is given by her gross lack of intelligence, her inability to behave appropriately in public, her constant demented facial expressions and need to spew out emotionally without care for those around her, and her demeanor in general. She's emotionally undeveloped, and, frankly, selfish in regards to needs all but her own. If it weren't for her two friends holding her up and coddling her emotional outbursts she'd still be stuck at the terminal crying her pathetic eyes out, and deservingly so. I can only come to the conclusion that Akko is undeserving to be the MC of this show; I nominate Sucy in her stead, in hopes that Trigger will write Akko's character out, to be nothing more than a mere background character where she belongs, making an occasional humorous scene as she struggles in her magic and is consequently bullied. She needs to be bullied nonstop - I can't believe I'm saying this, but it's true.

Refuses to adjust to her new world and loudly complains about how it's different from what she imagined it to be. Slacks off in class. Saves a tree due to obscure knowledge gleaned from being a Shiny Chariot fan.

Still can't fly, but burdens her friends by entering a flying competition. They are forced to try to train her and cheat to win. Smug as fuck with no remorse about potentially winning though trickery instead of raw skill. Tames the wild broom (you know that shit's coming back to her since she accidentally freed it while forcing it to bend to her will), gets second place. Bummed about not winning but not willing to work harder on how to actually improve her chances next time.

If Akko was a boy, it'd be a typical shounen where talentless MC is in a fish out of water situation and proves he's just as good because he has FEELINGS and "something special" that the other students don't and his mentor figure lost some time ago. The only reason it feels different is because it's an all-girl's school.

She is, but Akko also displays traits of a literal cartoon character. From a practical sense, her personality and actions carry the western feel of the show.

It's interesting. I like that everyone is actually put off by her and her antics. It almost feels like what would happen if a Looney Tunes character was dropped into a school anime.

If Trigger handles her development right it will definitely be worthwhile.
