Was it really so bad? All the propaganda made it out to be like the Germans were just raping French women willy nilly and executing anyone who was out after dark as a spy. Any French anons have grandparents that lived through it?

There were probably more war crimes committed by the Allies than by the Germans. The Germans have executed a lot of people from the Resistance (mostly communists, so I totally agree) but the germans have also killed civilians in retaliation for terrorist attacks by the communists. Life for my family was tragic because they lived in Alsace, a region that was annexed by Germany after we losted the war. Someone from my family was force enlisted into the German army (conscription) and was badly injured in Poland and a nurse in my family died because the favorite hobby of the eternal anglo was to bomb Red Cross trains...
