Shinkai's film returned to the top spot in the Japanese box office for the January 21-22 weekend...
Miyazaki seems unimpressed.
>#1 in the Japanese box office for 14 weeks, 13 weekends
>Has surpassed Miyazaki's Howl's Moving Castle as #2 Anime Film of All Time in Japan
>Earns 20 billion yen and counting to surpass Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets in Japan
>Reached 10 billion yen 9 days faster than Frozen
>Wins LA Film Critics Award
>Has become the no. 1 highest-grossing Japanese movie in China
>Has become the no. 1 movie in Thailand
>The film immediately topped Korea's box office opening on 555 screens all around the country which is a new record for the Japanese film.
>Also dominated China breaking the all-time records for the most advance tickets sold and the fastest film to reach 100 million yuan ($ 14 million or 1.7 billion yen), with the first 100 yuan earned in just the film's opening day.
>The film also dominated the charts of Hong Kong and Taiwan becoming the number 2 and top highest grossing Japanese film on the respective countries
>Inexplicably jumps 41% in the Japanese box office and climbs from 7th place to 3rd place in one week
>Still in the top 10 in the Japanese box office towards the beginning of 2017
>Now grossed US$331 million.
>Surpasses the box office gross of Spirited Away (US$289.1 million), making it the highest grossing anime film of all time.
>Is approved by Shinzo Abe and used by Cool Japan to spur tourism in Japan.
>Returned to the top spot in the Japanese box office for the January 21-22 weekend.
So this is the power of meme magic? Not bad.
The power of gender-bending breast-fondling.
...
>Your Name is returning to Australia and New Zealand, but this time it’ll be on incredibly HUGE IMAX screens from February 9.
>We’re also extremely lucky, as we’ll be the only regions to see this dazzling body-swap masterpiece on an IMAX screen outside of Japan!
blu ray fucking never
APOLOGIZE RIGHT NOW
Well, jokes on you, I'm going to Moonland next month. Going to watch it with my glorious nip friends.
I didn't understand why they fell in love before even meeting each other, nor did I like how many plot holes the latter half of the movie had, one after another.
What plot holes?
Grandfather paradox
Bootstrap paradox
How did the father "know" that Taki wasn't his daughter?
Why were their memories fucked?
Am I incorrect in my understanding that there are zero Miyazaki quotes in this article?
yes, they didn't interview miyazaki
If you get to Japan by February 10th you can see it in theaters with English subs.
>musubi
>Grandfather paradox
>Bootstrap paradox
The film never used either paradoxes. Since both paradoxes are merely theoretical scientific ideas of what could possibly happen with time travel, the non-use of them is not a plothole. If anything, it's using the time is always in flux trope.
>How did the father "know" that Taki wasn't his daughter?
Clearly you weren't paying attention. He knew the same way the grandma knew, i.e. Mitsuha's mom and grandma also body swapped when they were younger. He's probably heard about it from his dead-wife or the grandma.
>Why were their memories fucked?
Do you remember the fine details of your dream? To them it felt like they were dreaming. This is mentioned many times. It's like you didn't watch the film or something.
I'll be a week late
O-oh i guess that explains it.
I'd be fine with magic to suspend my disbelie as long as the magic was consistent, but everything that happened was too random.
only legit plot hole is that they didn't realize they are 3 years apart
even Taki realized that Mitsuha is using an old model phone that were on sale several years ago
That's neat. I'll have to try and snag a view.
Miyazaki invented isekai now?
