Scotland being Celtic is a meme basically. Only the Highlanders were Celtic and they all pretty much moved to Canada and USA. Lowlanders were always Anglo. Most of Scotland never even spoke Gaelic. Source on that? The western isles always had the most Gaelic influence and were even a kingship in their own right after gaining freedom from Danish rule. Highlanders have more Norse influence.

Western and central scotland tend to have gaelic place names. Head north and you have scandinavian place names ie -dale
