1. The original. The subplot with Lalah really touched me, although Four and Kamille were almost perfect together.
2. Stardust Memory because of the sheer animation quality.
3. There are no Gundam main characters that I'd define as badass, so I'll just vote for Zeta because I like Kamille.
I'm going to assume that anyone who says anything but X for romance hasn't seen X.

Probably G Gundam for the amazing over the top romantic ending. The original (Bright and Mirai), X (Garrod and Tiffa), Seed (Murrue and Mu), and 00 (Patrick and Kati) are all nice too

Other Gundams have some good fights (Bernie's Zaku II vs. Gundam Alex, Nu Gundam vs. Sazabi) but none of them are as consistently focused on cool robots fighting.
