Why is "streaming" a fad among people these days? It's one of the perks about my generation that I really can't wrap my head around. People sit for hours on end and watch someone else play video games or watch TV or do other mundane bullshit. I... I just don't get it? Instead of watching someone else play a video game, why wouldn't YOU go play said video game?
Do they do it because they like feeling like they have a friend or something? What's worse is that there are people who basically make a LIVING off of this shit. They just do absolutely nothing all day long and people pay them $2 or $3 at a time to do it. Not much but some of these faggots get literally thousands of people watching them at a time, just endlessly throwing their money at them.
I can understand watching someone else play a video game if you're trying to get past a difficult level, or if they're doing some kind of funny glitch or something. But this... this is a complete enigma to me.
>Why do people sit around glued to a screen and watch other people play a game? >I've never understood why they don't perform themselves. >Many people will even spend their money to advance the future of the platform. You just described every major league sport. Too bad they're both equally inane. It's weird how people can't see the similarities between the two, though.
Henry Bennett
I have twitch going on my second monitor while i grind out maps and things in path of exile. It seems pretty wild thst people literally pay these streamers a monthly wage though
Noah Ramirez
I watch steamers of a certain MMORPG I play. For me it's been a way to hear opinions of high level players on end game content I haven't quite reached yet, letting me better prepare during the grind to get there. And the mid level streamers usually don't mind having some company to go duo harder bosses with so I've made a few online friends that way.
My personal experience, can't speak for anyone else.
Landon Adams
Checked! But anything "live" captures our generation's attention. I personally think our need for instant satisfaction is tied to that. Plus, each streamer is basically a community in itself. There are actually a lot of social interactions and gatherings that happen because of Twitch, both irl and online (through voice chat, almost every streamer has their own Discord server).
James Campbell
because money. there are/were a lot of people who made a living from rp'ing on GTA. it's so easy to make money, just be attractive.
Oh sorry, just re-read my OP and realized I used the word "perks" when I meant to say "attributes" or something like that
Parker Butler
Paying for seeing someone else playing video game is absolutely beta male-tier activity.
James Anderson
I've really only ever watched my friends stream because it's a way of hanging out with them even though I'm 50 miles away. Besides that I've tried to watch streams and it's retarded. I think sometimes it's interesting to watch speedrun streams or something like that where the person playing is much better than you, but I don't really understand it otherwise. One of my friends who watches streams all the time says he mainly puts them on for background noise.
Ryan Peterson
Who is this fat kid and why do I see his name all the time?
Dominic Lopez
It's entertainment
Grayson Lopez
I've watched some because the players are entertaining to listen to, or they do fun stuff with the game they're playing, like doing voices for an adventure game. But I wonder about the people who tip them so they can ask questions like their favorite kinds of food. That kind of fandom seems really out of proportion for what it is, and kinda creepy.
Grayson Garcia
It's a friend simulator.
Landon Ramirez
I watch chess online so I can learn from IMs/GMs and better my own game.
I imagine it's the same for other people who watch game streaming? To watch good players and improve their own skills?
Nicholas Collins
Because people are entertained by the streamer. Either the streamers funny character or professional skill at said game. Besides. Why does it bother you that much what people enjoy doing with their time? If you don't like watching people play games then continue not watching people play games and let other people do what they wanna do.
Aaron Anderson
because i like watching people lose thousands of dollars on runescape
Dominic Anderson
42 year old fatty that looks like a lesbian fat teenager, cant take insults and gets butthurt over every comment
Thomas Anderson
>Besides. Why does it bother you that much what people enjoy doing with their time? The fact that you're even on Sup Forums tells me that you have a very big problem with what a lot of people do in their free time if you don't agree with it.
Chase Foster
I don’t get it myself. I think they’ve gotten too lonely. My one friend does it and if you’re in the party it’s just him talking to his 0 viewers
Luis Russell
instead of watching the 49ers play football, why don't YOU go play football? hope that helps explain it. it's an entertainment industry, nothing more.
Daniel Jackson
If it's speedruns or high tier plays then I agree. If it's just casual playthroughs then I'd rather play them myself.
Also facecams are a mistake.
Nolan Green
Attributes isn't much better. Read more books, you need to expand your vocabulary.
Here are a few ways you could have said what you meant
pastimes hobbies interests
Etc
Andrew Ward
Twitch chat is pretty racist and ripe for redpills input subtley
Connor James
> (You) >>Besides. Why does it bother you that much what people enjoy doing with their time? >The fact that you're even on Sup Forums tells me that you have a very big problem with what a lot of people do in their free time if you don't agree with it. Except It doesn't bother me to the point where I have to make a thread on here about it. I let them do their thing.
Bentley Price
it is human contact without the contact as for giving them money i have no clue
Jaxson Clark
It's because millennials are too poor to buy that shit themselves.
Alexander Bell
just another form of entertainment. why do people browse facebook all day or watch netflix?
as to why they give them money for playing games all day i have no idea. fucks deserve to be poor.
Grayson Young
No, because none of those are things I was trying to say. It is an attribute of my generation that we seem to be obsessed with watching live streams of things. That is to say, it is a characteristic of us that older generations don't seem to share. I'm not saying it is a hobby or pastime. "Quirks" is what I was going for, by the way.
Alexander Ross
streams and lets plays would be cool if blind lets plays wouldn't have become the mainstream trend. i come from a very harsh counter-strike 1.6 community background, where you got called out for absolutely every mistake with l33t-sp34k curse words. back then you actually tried to become hardcore and pwn the game. but what now? some incapable, braindead, shit-talking "bro-dude" records how he fails in a game for some hours and uploads it.
speedruns are the only thing left worth watching right now.
Aiden Cox
>Instead of watching someone else play a video game, why wouldn't YOU go play said video game? Sometimes you want to see the very best at something in action. Why do people watch professional sports when they could be playing sports instead? It's about enjoying mastery.
Xavier Garcia
millennials btfo /thread
Jace Walker
for the same reason you go to a live show, or a concert, or a sporting event. you want to see people do amazing things. watching someone conquer a world speedrun record live, watching someone who's really good at a game that you can learn from because you want to be better yourself, being part of the community in general, watching people play games you love to see their reaction and experience. there's lots of good reasons.
Jason Watson
I hate live streamers, like this useless prick for example. youtu.be/huBGkMOYCcc
Blake Baker
Are you really comparing watching an orchestra of professional musicians playing a concerto to paying some fat fuck in his pajamas $3 to watch him get his ass kicked in some retarded indie game he bought on Steam?
Blake Baker
streaming has a strong gay/pedo vibe
Sebastian Perez
Hmm, could be. I never watch them live, but I'm Gen-X. For me it's something I can download and play while I'm working from home. Music gets on my nerves after a while, and movies are too distracting. It seems like casual conversation works best as background noise.
Evan Allen
It's kinda hilarious to see how Sup Forums instantly attacks a lot of "nu-male" activities like fashion and drinking Starbuck's or something. But the second you insult something about video games, everyone goes on the defensive. I suspect a lot of the faggots on this board throw their shekels at twitch streamers. Makes sense considering a good 60% of this board now is a bunch of MAGApede faggots from Reddit who are obsessed with e-celebs and Brittany Venti
Isaiah Adams
Except i can start up league and sit in front of a webcam, but i cant play in the NFL or NHL.
Cooper Mitchell
much like a lot of things in this clown world.. i just dont understand the streaming phenomenon
Eli Allen
dude you should think if that has to do anything about a question that was never asked in response to a topic which wouldn't be discussed even under a circumstance that me and others couldn't even understand, because this board is not about anything that could be not considered something that we all wouldn't even talk about.
Brody Hughes
The only reason bullshit like streaming is a thing is because two reasons......education system is designed to make you a useful idiot and soy. There is not a single normal person streaming. All soyim.
Owen Rodriguez
I just started getting back into gaming and I've been playing Fortnite. I've been watching streamers to help get better. I'll watch for a bit and then implement their tactics to my game. I don't see anything wrong with that.
Though I noticed there's "real life" streamers, they'll stream themselves talking to randoms on the street or other bullshit.
Julian Green
It's more of a background thing for me. I just put on a stream wether I'm doing homework, programming, cooking, cleaning, etc. It's a nice white noise sort of thing.
Carson Bell
i stopped watching streams when people with colored hair started streaming
Christopher Young
you have this outlook if you've never streamed or enjoyed a stream with some friends. it's a whole kind of culture that can be funny as shit. it's more real than 'real'ity tv,
Cameron Butler
It's pretty gay desu
At least with sports something is actually going on.
Leo Torres
Dude it's a fucking video game >amazing things >button mashing
Nathaniel Stewart
...
Julian Cook
i never said it was the exact equivalent, but the time it takes to learn and master any game, regardless of what it is, still has it's metits. for example if you see a street performer who plays something amazing, you might drop some change or a dollar in their tip jar. it's having respect for talent. but thanks for trying to change the goalposts and equate an entire symphony to someone speedrunning super mario bros on a webcam.
Kayden Richardson
did anybody figure out why cod deathmatch streams get any viewers? i mean it can't get any more boring than watching someone playing deathmatch, it's not even like cs:go with teams who can win a match.
Joshua Bennett
it's a friend simulator
Matthew Taylor
have you ever watched any esports? things like dota finals for fighting game finals where people play at such a high level of skill they walk away with thousands of dollars? these people are performing on a level beyond everyone else in the world. if you think it's simple button mashing, sign up for a tournament sometime and see how easy you think it is.
James Harris
streams are comfy as heck senpai
Ian Collins
>they deserve to be poor
dont you see, theres like this entire new weird digital economy growing , literal demand , which is starting to become somewhat meritworthy i suppose, but i can see the arguements why that could be the case, in my views well justified here, that will attract dollars for example, in the form of advertising
Josiah Sullivan
they probably smell on a level beyond everyone else in the world too
Austin Wilson
Yeah but probably you're shit in league too, and no one would want to watch you.
Charles Reed
here comes the turd worlder, the ruiner of online vidya
Anthony Watson
that might be true, but i don't see why you think streams are a bad thing. watching professional sports is the same way, not everyone who plays football as a hobby is on the field, but they watch the game on their tv. and they might be smelly. are you saying watching a sport of any kind requires everyone to be of the utmost hygiene? because i can show you quite a few smelly fat guys i see at the sports bar.
John Miller
>Why is "streaming" a fad among people these days? user has no friends beside streamers. user has no GF beside waifu. user has no money beside Bitcoin.
Jonathan Reyes
>user has no money beside Bitcoin. >user has ... Bitcoin.
you are implying a lot
Brayden Gutierrez
90% or more of streamers suck, but there are a few that are engaging and actually TEACH the game as they play it. for example when i started playing diablo 3 back in 2014 I didn't know what the fuck I was doing, so I found a D3 streamer that played my class and threw his stream up on my second monitor while i played. After a while of watching/listening to him as he explains the mechanics and gameplay of the class, you start to absorb the information and it makes you a better player. He also only had like 80-100 viewers on average so you could actually ask him specific questions in chat that he would answer for you. It's streams like these that have value.
Christopher Smith
Because Chads, such as myself, figured out that if we could make betas feel like Chads by having other betas cheer them on doing gay-ass fag shit then we could slay even more pussy. Being betas they, of course, fell for it.
Charles Price
I stream LoL every morning for 4-6 hours after my overnight retail shift. I take zero donations, but I might go full joke soon.
This. I have a two hour pro-white alt-right call in show every morning. Someone has to compete with Stormfront Radio in the morning.

I'm sure that joke sounded funny to you in your head as you were typing it, but it fucking sucked.
Andrew Torres
So it's the betas who are making millions getting Twitch-rich? Got it.
Asher Price
but I'm not joking
Aaron Hernandez
I understand why most people stream. There are a wide range of streamers from people who are narcissists to pathetic gamers who think they have some sort of charisma and can turn it into a living to former cam sluts who realized they could make even more beta bux for not even taking off their clothes and masturbating.
I don't understand why many people watch. I've watched streams. I used to play CSGO competitively and I've watched matches or put them on with my 2nd monitor while I was doing something else. I've watched players who are very talented before to see how they're doing the things they do. I've watched streams of new games to get an idea of what the game is about, and I've watched trainwreck retarded streamers who are intentionally or unintentionally retarded. When I've watched it has always been for a short period of time. I don't sit down and watch twitch for hours on end. It isn't very entertaining to watch assholes play video games. I don't know what keeps people in a place, or gets them to watch the same person every day like its a TV show.
Elijah Moore
if you play a video game for a living and rely on donations and shilling crap to your viewers for money then yes
Connor Barnes

Dominic Sanchez
I assumed the girls showed ther tits the whole time and it was all underage guys watching who managed to get around the porn filter mom installed this way
Are you telling me people unironically watch dudes play video games? It just can’t be!?!
Aiden Cox
You're an idiot who doesn't understand language, Pick up a fucking book and learn what the words you're using mean
It's not an "attribute" of 50's kids to like juke boxes. That was just a popular fad of the day and kids like to do what other kids are doing. Streaming isn't different, you don't get to call it an attribute because that's not what the word means
Jackson Martinez

You getting old bro
Gavin Price
Personally, I've always enjoyed watching others play games, my older siblings when I was younger, my friends in my teens, and streamers now. They're usually better than me so it's cool to see them play, and maybe learn something.
Levi Gonzalez
Draw your attention especially to the synonym "hallmark." One could very well say that it is a hallmark of this generation to be obsessed with streaming. That is an attribute of this generation. Those who live in glass houses should not throw stones, retard.
Parker Parker
I don't pay to watch someone else read a book. But if those mental gymnastics make you feel better, go for it
Anthony Ramirez
Because some of them are entertaining like Vargskelethor Joel, he has some good bants and having it on in the background is fun and a lot of times he's playing something old or interesting and have a goof and laught. It's enjoyable.
I also like watching streams of games I'll never play like much of the horror genre.
tl;dr see interesting games or playstyles, listen to interesting people
Jayden Perry
Who the fuck cares, you faggots. You're arguing about nothing, and it's going nowhwere. Wasting energy, you degenerate faggots
Sebastian Nguyen
Fucking hilarious that sitting at home watching someone else play video games is being defended on this board.
Surely this qualifies as "degenerate behavior," right Sup Forums?
Aiden Flores
Give the millenial a break, at least he’s just watching video games like some kind of obese shut in and not out in antifa or gender fluid like all his friends
Samuel Collins
Speedruns can be pretty exciting to watch. Some games are so optimized that the slightest mistake will kill a run. Among the good players pbs are rare.
The creative streams are also interesting. Watching other artists and musicians can help when learning. They can also be interactive since many take requests.
Noah White
>Fucking hilarious that sitting at home watching someone else play sports games is being defended on this board. Only this bunch
