I've noticed multiple people say that everything went to shit after 2007, is this true? If so, what caused it? Obama? Recession? Social media?

the hadron collider did it?
Yes.
It was the time when the end results of America's absurdly high divorce rate could be seen. Children of single mothers started working themselves up the ladder and needlessly feminizing everything.
Checked.
There was a culture shift in 2006, when everyone and their mom got sick to their stomachs by Bush, the Neo Cons, the arrogant ”conservatism” and along with that all the deluded Christians.
Only ”change” we could see from all of those twits was Obama. He spoke against this. Hillary was a part of it.
The same movement that elected Obama elected Trump. Obama shifted his constituency into Socialist tranny loving LGBTQ faggots. That’s not what people voted for. Obama was an anti Bush vote, not a pro Socialism vote
He brought about a culture shift to degeneracy mid 2011, but the shift against Bush towards Atheism, what not came long before that. Obama didn’t create that, he benefited from it. That was an anti-Bush sentiment.
smart phones and social media was when everything went to shit. anyone that says obama is a retard. we had a democrat in the white house for 8 years in the 90s but they were awesome.
so you are suggesting the root of all of this is Bush?
90s Bill Clinton is the equivalent of a modern Republican really
That thumbnail makes me so sad... I really miss when life was fun, now fun is not socially allowed. That sucks.
Yes there was 2007 is exactly the year. New music new movies new art new everything, but then came the birth of hipsters
is it just me or everything now seems less colourful in comparison? colours seemed sharper 10+ years ago. life seemed brighter in all the senses
The 90s and early 2000s were legit the best times growing up as a kid. I feel sorry for anyone who didn't get to experience it.
...
the new trend in graphic design seems to be about making everything flat and drab in colour to look more proffesional. I miss the old days.
Very much so. Not just him, of course, but his administration discredited everything Conservative for almost a generation, had Trump not rebranded it.
...
I'd give anything to relive them. I've done pretty well as an adult but I feel like nothing I experience will be as great as my childhood
...
Obama and Trayvon. 2008 - 2012 wasn’t that noticeable. 2014- was very noticeable. Both times were me coming back to this country from abroad.
Smartphones really. Facebook became full normie, Twitter came out, and YouTube started hitting million view markers along with the use by real life figures, especially in politics. Most automakers also shifted to new designs to compete as there hadn't been a large overhaul to design since the mid 90's, and car design is a major sign if cultural change. When people change, cars change, which changes our culture directly as it's the pillar that supports our collective image, along with clothing and home design, which is why everything felt different. In movies, the Batman movies started, marvel came up with their universe and that changed our image more. By 2010, 2005 looked like a decade ago.

Pokemon craze reached you even if you weren't actually knowing of it.

weird how sounds bring up past feelings or emotions
Use to invite my friend to my house and play this 'blackbox' throughout the night.
My mom went in my room and was like "You were awake the whole night?!" God i miss 2005
That recalls the mid-1990s, very early 2000s, for me. It is somewhat nostalgic. It reminds me of the era I was playing games as old as Myst, the Rollercoaster Tycoon games, the Sim City games up to Sim City 4, The Sims, and the first two Age of Empires.
smells and tastes as well. i walked through an old mall fire stairs a few months ago and it smelt like shopping malls did in the late 90s, literally took me back for a brief moment
www.youtube.com/watch?v=MxPuqjrhuFg
It was GOAT. 97-03 best years to be a kid hands down (or rather last great era to be a kid)
Its a perfect storm, lot of things combined. Recession, social media, smartphones, coming of age useless milennials, Bush and Iraq war, the last sane people in academia had retired and so on.
Runescape ended PKing and free trade.
The resulting autism and upset changed the world.
Though, I believe video game culture (Which had grown rather large by that point) and the internet (the fastest means of information exchange) were both "Exposed" to the masses, normies, "Nerd culture" was being overtaken by things like social media and there was a large shift in attitude.
Yes, its fully manifested itself at tryvon martin case, there was no doubt that we fucked after that. Obama let wall str to go away with all the shit they done and instead began what he is known for.
Remember going to the mall back then? Stores like Gadzooks, Sam Goody Music, Spencers when it still sold fun stuff and not just trash clothes and cheap dildos. Colors were bright, everything was cool, people were happy to be out and about, it was nice. I'm old enough to remember smoking in malls. It all fell apart lads.
That is the sound of tape recorded program for ZX Spectrum. Who is oldfag now?
Something came over the dimensional bridge
fuck tay tay part literally killed me
Obamaphones played a part
Free, unlimited talk, text, and data for nigs, illegals, and terrorists
Internet goes to shit, society goes to shit
A huge shift occurred at some point. But it was gradual and we still don't understand the reasons behind it.
I see a grim future, that's for sure.
Yea everything was colorful, tie-dye shirts were a pretty big thing, no one took themselves seriously fashion wise
Wow, Myst... You're taking me back!
I miss the days of no care in the world playing good Blizzard games too, before SJW took over.
The culture shift was in 2001 after 9/11. That's when everything changed.
...
Thats the biggest thing I remember from my childhood, the colors. Logos, school murals, fashion, graphic design, cars, everything. Things were alive with patterns and colors. I know this isn't strictly a 90s thing, but color is gone. Theres a restaurant I walk by frequently in my city that still has an old sign up from that era, and it makes me nostalgic every time. Its such a nice break for the eyes in between the normal depressing brick and the Starbucks on the corner.
Say it with me...Interdimensional lizard people!
Basically, people who grew up under Bush became liberals, and people who grew up under Obama became conservatives. Thus, culture shifted to the right after 2007 with every person who turned 18.
Rey is literally the daughter of drunk junkies who are nothing special that sold her for alcohol.
Lukes character is ruined because it turns out the reason Kylo "turned" was because luke was about to execute him in his sleep due to luke fearing a prophecy. Same thing Vader did
Kylo kills snoke. Nothing special about him either
Rey and Kylo get together. It's like space twilight
Yoda shows up
Luke is killed
The black guy and ugly asian get together

anyone walk around smoking these as a kid?
turning social aspects of life into a commodity like social media has done i think fucked with society in a really bad way. honestly the world would be a better place if there was no facebook/instagram/twitter
Obama must have entered our world from another dimension, maybe the conspiracy that he's the anti-Christ holds true
Maybe thats when it started but I don't think it was noticeable or had an overtly negative impact until post 07
yeah, looking back, 2010 to 2005 really radical long term changes happened. Not the meme changes like music or what drugs people like to do, but how we fundamentally communicate with the world.
They never tasted very good but I bought them anyway all the time
yep, almost all my family smoke so I wanted to do it to. they got banned at my school though. funnily enough i dont smoke now which is surprising
>10Say not thou, What is the cause that the former days were better than these? for thou dost not inquire wisely concerning this.
Ecclesiastes 7:10
Peace come from god.
The corporate inversion happened in the 1960s, that was also the beginning of the decline of the US. It can be proven without a doubt. However it takes time for things to shake out (and other intervening events and geo-political changes slowed the full effects) which made them really become noticeable by the average American around the late 80's and early 90's.
CEO pay as a multiple of average worker pay skyrocketed around this same time. Stocks overtook government backed securities and investments/rates. Lobbying and actual placement of corporate execs into government (GD Searle and Rumsfeld are a great example, as is Aspartame in general). And a few other things happened at this same time.
People loved conspiracy theory back then because even if a connection to Bush made no sense, it felt good creatively demonizing him. NWO, blood for oil, the bin Laden family connection, whatever, people loved to imagine the possibilities. Obama took that away because not only was he fresh and with very little to his resume, he was black so paranoia about him could be easily dismissed as racially motivated. Disgraced conservatives carried their torch with the tea party, and they wrote conspiracy theory books about Obama, but it was preaching to the loyal choir. Normies spent the Obama years bluepilled. Trump knew he could exploit their pent up demand for conspiracy theory. He had even been a birther, but ended up with the bipartisan anti-authority populist measage of Drain the Swamp.

any other notable events around 2007/8?

thinking back to the past is the only thing that comforts me these days really, drugs barely work anymore. i hate that as a kid i couldnt wait to grow up, i never stopped to smell the roses but then again i lived for the moment
first iPhone came out which elevated social media to what it is today, corporations somehow being able to move into a monopoly/duopoly position via payed off politicians. in theory these major players like google should have been much heavier regulated. we've reached end level capitalism, the extreme where its fucked and mimics more something like a planned economy except the governing body/s are private corporations
For some reason this reminds me of that
Toy that would scan barcodes so you could fight and capture monsters like Pokémon. My god that blew my mind for weeks, loved the ever loving fuck out of that thing.

Now we're heading to another bust, maybe startup bubble or coin bubble

anyone play with one of these?
i remember these
and boom goes the dynamite
the era of social media and smartphones started around then.
The Swede gets it. People forget the 2006 election was the harbinger of the anointing of Black Jesus 2 years later, with the Dems successfully pushing MUH HURRICANE KATRINA along with a bit of a precursor to BLM with shit like the Jena 6.
I'm still pissed I was never able to get that set. Ice Planet was so fucking rad. Lego Space in general, a damn shame it was all pissed away for fucking Star Wars.
SMART PHONES. VIDEO STREAMING. SOC MEDIA TAKEOVER.
That was the culture shift.
i remember when i got my own phone line in my room.
2007 I got out of highschool. In school we said faggot at will and made fun of our one black friend and played nigger songs when he was around. We would try and get girls drunk so they would fuck us. We wuz kangz
Now i could not imagine going to highschool.
Blocked free trade and got rid of the wilderness.
>Everything went to shit after that
>Keith Haring shirt
The culture shift is older than people in this thread realize.
2007 was the golden age of Sup Forums trolling. I miss fucking with old Chris Chan. Now he's more depressing than funny
back in my day, trolling used to mean something
Gilding rune armor for free!!!
i hated that, couldnt rip off noobs anymore
Trolling was a art.

9/11. The US lost a lot of innocence that day. Now everything feels more serious somehow
Maybe once in a while a giant war just happens.
I blame media for the shift especially after the emergence of smartphones and then YouTube together coupled with the hatred of Bush which led to Obama which lead to further bullshit to Trump to almost ww3
Agreed.
forgot pic....
REEE
This is bullshit. The mainstream hated Bush from the start. There was a brief upswing after 9/11, but within a year, people went back to hating him.
Also, it wasn't the same people who voted for Bush and Obama. Whites in the US always vote conservative. If you rule out minorities, every president in the US since Kennedy would have been a Republican. If it was up to white people, Obama would have lost in 2008.
But yes, Bush did cause a backlash against conservatives. Part of it was deserved, and most of it was created by the massive media shitstorm against him, like we're seeing with Bush. Liberals were calling for impeachment, and wanted Bush to be tried as a war criminal.
Everything went to shit after September 11, 2001.
...
Everything went to shit after 9/11
>Liberals were calling for impeachment, and wanted Bush to be tried as a war criminal.
And now the liberals have merged with the Bush-era neocons. What a strange path the mainstream left has taken
in 10 years liberals will merge with Trump era Republicans and say 'well he wasn't that bad' all while calling the new R president literally hitler
Yeah, it's strange. Seeing people like Bush, Romney and McCain team up with the very liberals who did everything in their power to destroy them is mindblowing.
Neo-marxism is one hell of a drug.
Steve Jobs invented the iPhone in 2007, which was the beginning of a permanent, persistent connection to the Internet for individuals. Compound that with social media, and all of a sudden, you’ve revolutionized society without even realizing it.
I theorize that the Internet, smartphone, and social media has allowed humanity to tap into our collective unconscious and manifest genuine effects into the real world. The zeitgeist has been democratized, and the elites have lost control.
Buckle up faggots.
I hope you guys never find out how bad it really is..
youtube.com
2007 is when the internet became fast enough to bring in normies. Facebook, YouTube, internet memes, all took off around 2007, then the iPhone took all that and multiplied it by 10
I've been online for over 20 years now, and it's hilarious what the liberal assholes thought the internet would become back in the mid-2000s, when it was going full mainstream, particularly with the advent of Facebook and the iPhone.
They were convinced that the internet was some kind of tool for democracy, education and freedom, and that people both in the western world, but particularly in third world countries, would use it to educate themselves, abandon religious extremism and lift themselves out of poverty. Everyone was going to dance under a rainbow of love, knowledge and happiness.
Instead, we got the opposite: It's being used by corporations and politicians to track and censor people who don't have politically correct beliefs. It's used to spread radical left-wing ideology, and has created communities for every degenerate fetish under the sun. It's being used by terrorists to organize and spread propaganda. It's destroyed people's ability to socialize, and given them a reason to never leave the house. It's turned adults into manchildren, who only care about video games and pop culture. It's also created a cancerous, vapid entertainment industry of Youtubers.
It's just a fucking cancer. I really miss the internet communty of the late 90s and early 2000s, when it was more like a new frontier than a fucking gulag run by neo-marxist corporations that track everything you do.
The only good thing is that it's given the far-right a way to rally and strike back. Say what you will about the "alt-right", or whatever fucking term they use to describe us, but the modern world has never seen a far-right counter-cultural movement like the one that's popped up over the past 3-4 years, and it would never have been possible without the internet. For someone who's been on the far-right since the early 2000s, it's absolutely astonishing to see millions of young people rally to our cause, after more or less fighting the battle alone for 15 years.
they're literally candy sticks to incentivize children to smoke through a pavlovian reward response
It's a good thing they were banned, because they're literally exploiting childhood psychology to sell cancer sticks
Honestly the executives and marketing team who okayed creating this product and marketing it to kids in the first place should have been summarily shot by a firing squad, but this isn't a just world where evil gets what it deserves.
Slick Willie was getting his cock sucked in the WH. Not lighting it up for a bunch of degenerate faggots to virtue signal to the world.
KB Toys as well! Thanks Bain Capital for destroying that. Checked
