Poor man's Sora no Woto.

Underwhelming ending, shitty story

They were probably good for other people, but just wasn't my taste.

...

No one will disagree with you about that

Why?

...

Angel Beats

Utter crap apart from the animation

If you like anything posted here, your taste is shit

Why is it shit? Can you articulate a valid criticism and back up your thesis, you spewing retard?

this shit

Awful, just awful.

All the characters look like Jack fucking Skelington

It's shit.

Why is it good?

Hyouka.

How can anyone like this crap?

I see it recommended SO OFTEN on Sup Forums

>the filter's working xD

ok

If you seriously clicked on a thread like this and expected serious discussion, you're almost as much of an idiot as the people legitimately posting shows in this thread.

...

As someone who fucking loves HR, here are a few:

-the animation is absolute dogshit, even if the artstyle and setting are beautiful
-the SoL episodes meant to acclimate the viewer to the setting (which precede the later dramatic arcs) are filled with really poor humor, mediocre direction, and bland character interactions (e.g., Rakka visiting the bakery and realizing glasses girl used the halo mold to bake bread)
-the supporting cast (aside from Kuu) is basically there to set up Reki and Rakka's development and have few interesting qualities on their own
-the drama can seem hamfisted if you have little to no investment in the characters or don't relate to anything they're feeling

If you're not 13 yo and know religious texts or have read any book in your life you'd see how retarded, boring and predictable this show is.

Rakka herself has few interesting qualities either. (Reki is a good character)

>really poor humor, mediocre direction, and bland character interactions (e.g., Rakka visiting the bakery and realizing glasses girl used the halo mold to bake bread)
Shit taste.
That scene and the visits at the clocktower, library and shop were good.

I disagree. Though she's clearly in the mold of a "newbie girl will do her best!" kind of character, the undercurrents of self-victimization, self-harm, regret and waywardness are human enough to elevate her from other characters in that style. Add that to her chemistry with Reki and she never comes off as just a bland obligatory protagonist to me.

This piece shit.
It was basically a golden pile of steaming shit. It looked beautiful but it was still smelly, ugly shit.

You could sum all that up as insecurity/self-loathing which is hardly unique or interesting, it's practically obligatory for that character type

This takes the cake.
>have interesting setting to explore
>focus on the cast of shitty moeblobs instead, with an episode dedicated to one of them holding her piss
>cram all the plot at the end
The circlejerk this shit still has on Sup Forums (literally the only place in the world that cares about its existence) even after all these years is incomprehensible.

OPs that I was tricked into responding to that turned out to be trolls.

youtube.com/watch?v=npLVlJTH_mk
tl;dw: It's a deconstruction of the nichijoukei genre

Anyway, the circlejerk is dying, I ended up in a thread where no one was defending it and everyone saying it was bad

>deconstruction
Stop

but I've never seen another series handle those qualities as well, or present them convincingly to the point that you feel fucking bad for her. In any other series her latent self-hatred would just be written off as the story progresses with some cheap moment of friendship, rather than be something corrosive which eats away at her and actually fucks her up. I don't think you could've gotten a wing-cutting scene anywhere else, something that feels really graphic and unsettling even though it's not particularly violent.

if you look at Reki and Rakka's character from a macro perspective, both their archetypes exist elsewhere. it's somewhat the same for human beings as well, no one (or at least most people) is totally unique or special.

>Threads you made to bait that turned into serious discussion
ABe claims another victim

I 3 ep ruled Paranoia Agent. It's not good, not bad, but seems extremely underwhelming coming from Kon.

glad I wasn't alone, one of the worst anime I have ever seen
never bothered finishing that one

...

Better than the other 100 isekais that aired recently.

>-the animation is absolute dogshit
This is a product of its time, the transition from cel to digital animation. You have to take it as-is, because it's about a valid a criticism as a film from before color photography was readily available being B&W.
>really poor humor, mediocre direction, and bland character interactions
Sure, in some aspects. I can't address this directly, as it's too broad a criticism and fraught with subjectivity. But "bland character interactions" are inherent to SoL - you either tolerate it or you don't.
>the supporting cast
There's 13 episodes to work with, and backstory and narrative to develop. Of course it's going to be about the MC and antagonist.
>little to no investment in the characters or don't relate to anything they're feeling
This can be applied to pretty much everything. It's up to you as the viewer to be invested, not the other way around. This is barely shy from saying "It's boring"; such inherent responses as "boring" or palpable investment happen solely in the viewers head, and as such are criticism of one's own emotional state than of the object of criticism itself.

Since she's otherwise not interesting or developed it just came across as melodrama to me, to each their own I guess

abe defense force won't let any insults against their profound philosophy cartoons slide

ABe is a victim himself, what are you talking about? Pic related, the Industry chewed him up and out. When will he get paid for decades of pro bono work? Despera fucking when?

Bland character interactions has nothing to do with SoL. SoLs are just as capable of having good characters as any other genre.

Bless, you're trying so hard.

The whole plot was highly predictable and the religious subplot was dull.

The pace was way too melancholic and anticlimactic.

"Bland", as in the everyday mundane. Good characters can also be bland; banality and worthwhile narrative are not mutually exclusive.

>Bless, you're trying so hard.
that about sums up my opinion on abe and his works

>bland character interactions (e.g., Rakka visiting the bakery and realizing glasses girl used the halo mold to bake bread)
Uhh... what? It advances the plot (Rakka visiting everyone's work), the world (the haibane can only work at the oldest of each type of establishment in the town), and both their characters (Rakka already takes this pretty seriously; Hikari doesn't). And it's quite cute, in a way that pushes one of the themes - that the world doesn't need to be wracked with grandiose significance in every action; that you can have a theologically meaningful discussion without invoking the biggest events or deepest reverence; that there is providence in the fall of a sparrow (or a crow); and you can use an angel's halo as inspiration for tasty snacks if you like.

Paranoia Agent is great, fuck off dude.

>because it's about a valid a criticism as a film from before color photography was readily available being B&W
Not really, if it looks like shit it looks like shit. You can come up with any amount of excuses, but the fact remains. Whether that seriously impacts your enjoyment of the show is up to you, though for me it didn't. Also, not really a good analogy because B&W can be very artistic and beautiful in its own right rather than just a downgrade.

> Of course it's going to be about the MC and antagonist.
Again, just because you have an excuse for it doesn't necessarily make it a non-issue. I personally think that you CAN make a character interesting with very little screen time, Mushishi does this well for many of its one-off characters who only show up in a single episode. Or think of any number of faster-paced, plot-driven shows that manage to come up with interesting characters despite giving them little screen time.

>you either tolerate it or you don't
You could easily make the argument that scenes like the bakery or Kana's relationship with the clock guy just aren't really fresh or interesting enough to spend time on, or that a bunch of other scenes just say little about who these characters are. It's obviously pretty subjective at this point. I also disgree that SoL has this unique problem, take a film like Only Yesterday where minor interactions can be meaningful.

>This can be applied to pretty much everything.
This is true, though often times it's presented as a legitimate criticism of, say, high school romantic melodrama that can have little resonance to grown adults. I'm sure you could say something more specific about HOW the drama is handled, though I can't come up with anything right now.

Fun things are fun.

I'm being somewhat hard on it and playing devil's advocate, but all I'm saying is it's not the show's strongest point (even if I did enjoy it) and could easily be picked on. I'm not saying it's a deep structural flaw in the show or anything.

FLCL

Sora no Woto is even more boring than this.

...

This pretentious garbage

i hate everything about this

This shit, it's like SAO all over again

Who tricked you into watching this? We told you to stay away from /r/anime.

WAIT?! A REASONABLE PERSON WHO UNDERSTANDS YOU CAN DISLIKE GOOD SHOWS WITHOUT THEM BEING BAD?! DID I GO TO THE WRONG ROMANIAN GARLIC FORUMS?

you predicted the main character would spend an entire episode in a dark well with a dead bird? Dear god man you should become a psychic.
>The pace was way too melancholic and anticlimactic.
that was the point?

This was absolutely terrible in every way and extremely melodramatic.

>>>/reddit/

I just remembered that I have this downloaded
Is the manga better?

You need more than 3 eps to understand what makes Paranoia Agent so great

Strawberry Panic

I never wanted lesbians to end up like this

Inb4 NGE

Is that Trent Reznor?

>This is a product of its time, the transition from cel to digital animation. You have to take it as-is, because it's about a valid a criticism as a film from before color photography was readily available being B&W.
>>really poor humor, mediocre direction, and bland character interactions
Not a valid defense, look at FLCL

What a snorefest this was and its from someone who greatly enjoyed hack sign

But it has a pug! IN A SPACESUIT!

Texhnolyze
Too long, everything gets really boring after Yoshii dies until they get to the surface

More like Gayer than Shit

Wolf's Rain also.

Found the pleb.

These threads are so fucking shit.

If a show has unanimous praise on Sup Forums its shit
If a show has unanimous hate on Sup Forums its shit.

If a show has loyal fanbase that love it while maintaining a loyal anti-fanbase its great IF you're part of the shows market demographic.

Fuck you both

>If a show has loyal fanbase that love it while maintaining a loyal anti-fanbase
Shinsekai Yori comes to mind.

So Yahari is better than Legend of the Galactic Heroes then

Same. FLCL somehow managed to make a six episode series feel like an overwhelming waste of time.

LOGH is fucking huge and impossible to finish if you're not already invested, so anti-fans have less to attack

Plenty of people drop it at under 25 episodes and proceed to call it boring during every thread ever

Hibike Euphonium, in real life no one would put up with any of the shit that goes on in this show. All the drama whores like Asuka, who is directly or indirectly responsible for almost all the drama, would be purged from the club regardless of how good they were. I don't know how Kumiko can say she treasures the time she's spent in the club, but maybe she enjoyed all the juicy drama too.

Fictional drama does not have to be realistic. It's not realistic in literature, film or any other medium either.

that's called "melodrama," and it's panned in pretty much every medium.

Hyouka

Just...

this is how you can spot a pleb

>Those arm and leg proportions

I'm honest to God kinda creeped out, it's so deep in the uncanny valley

Feel free to kill yourselves.

Found the pretentious teenager.

This and Texhnolyze.

pleb thread

More like a bait thread, and everyone took it like a champ.

IS.
I was told it wasn't like other harem shows. Sup Forums lied to my face.
