IIRC it amounted to about an 80% federal tax solely on the south to benefit only the north -all this when there was already a history of southern states threatening to secede solely over unfair tariffs. He then started heavily fortifying military bases at southern coasts for the sole purpose of enforcing tariffs. This hardly seems like a politician who has the best interests of the entire country at heart but instead someone wants to politically and financially weaken a section of the country to that disagrees with his policies -just as he would jail any politician in the Union for disagreeing with him, just as he freed only slaves in the south but allowed union states to keep slaves AFTER the civil war, just has he allowed blacks only to hold politic power in the south only and hold kangaroo courts post civil war.
