Federal judges can pretty much do what they want because impeaching them is seen as so extreme is almost never happens. It needs to become more common.

There needs to be a faster process to get to a final decision. Perhaps issues can go directly to the supreme court at the president's request. SCOTUS should also be able to impeach lower judges at the time of ruling if they believe the lower judge didn't adhere to the rule of law in their ruling. Some fear of losing their position would keep the worst of these decisions from happening.
