Maison Ikkoku was bad all around and I couldn't understand why it was seen as some sort of classic when I read it. All of MC's neighbors are horrible people, the love interest keeps flipflopping between MC and Chad because MISUNDERSTANDINGS and being pigheaded, and there's just nothing that really redeems it other than "maybe it was better than the other stuff at the time".
