What's interesting about it is that both of their deaths were self-inflicted. I mean, an arrow to the back isn't really self-inflicted, but you know what I mean.
They weren't just murdered. Their deaths were the outcome of their choices.
I do like how March still had some influence as a spirit after death too. Or maybe that was just Fushi...

The writer of kagerou daze. Part of the fourth light novel is about the oldest being alive trying to understand itself and find the source of its own existence.

I think he likes to take the forms of those who have died in pursuit of their life-meaning/goal. But then again, Fushi did take the form of the bear, but that was because he thought it necessary.

Same with Johann too, though. He just randomly came across the boy's house by chance.

If we're to find a pattern for the animals, it's that they were both mysteriously wounded and struggling with something.

Also, since Fushi can transform into Johann and the boy's forms without wounds anymore, I wonder if he can do that with March or if he'll always have that arrow sticking into his body.

Yeah, see, since he always transformed into the spirit bear with arrows in his body, even though he and March had already pulled all of them out. He's fine with regenerating the exterior wounds the being he's copying had when they died, but he keeps forming these foreign objects into his body when he transforms into March and the bear.

It's probably something to do with his mental image of things. The bear looks like it did when he fought it but I wonder why its the image of her in her dress pierced with an arrow that he sticks with? I would almost expect him to have mimicked her wrapped in bandages after her death.

Perhaps it's as you say and he takes the form that struck him the most in his mind.

I suppose, considering he's lived as Johann and the nameless boy the longest and his body kept regenerating their wounds, his mind adapted to their healed forms as the default appearance. It could all simply be an issue with his own cognitive ability.

I think this is a sound idea. So over time it will probably heal March's form. And something I thought about the bear. He was there when March was removing the spines. I wonder if he uses the wounded bear form when it is "angry" but might begin to use the non-pincushion version once he starts to become the bear for more than just attacking.
