It's actually not that smart to draw any conclusion on what kind of animal Kaban might be since all the animals are now in friend form. Tsuchinoko only came to this conclusion after having observed Kaban in her interactions, and Shoebill took her time with this as well.

Nah, I figured the Professor or librarian would be some kind of "wise" animal. I didn't think they'd so straightforwardly make it an owl. The question is if they're going to find half-eaten human remains in the corners of the library after the owls have had their meal.
