So I've been thinking about this ever since I saw it on opening night: this film is the perfect example of how the sjw mindset infects and spreads like cancer. It starts with the noble goal of wanting to provide solid role models for people deemed under represented. We see this in TFA and Rogue One...they feel like rough approximations of Star Wars movies but have different demographics in leading roles. Even though they look different and sometimes speak like retarded, adderall-fueled millenials, the characters still, more or less, act like people who could exist in the same universe as Alec Guiness' Kenobi.
But that's never enough.
It's not good enough to have a diverse cast of main characters. These people want to absolutely destroy everything that's good and well-liked from the past because in their mind, the past is where bad thoughts and bad people come from. If the great unwashed masses saw good in the traditional things, then they might not want to buy into the new, progressive way. That's why this 2.5 hour long piece of pure schlock is the mess that it is: the director (AND SOLE FREAKING SCREENWRITER) wanted to undo everything that people wanted. Instead of having the hotshot pilot and the turncoat trooper experience a character arc from their spots in the previous movie, he made every male a bumbling idiot and then added heroism that scaled with the darkness of their skin or the thickness of their accent. Instead of explaining who or why the bad guy is, he added a 40 minute nonsensical anti-capitalist tirade right in the middle that accomplished nothing. Instead of sharing with the audience what the hell the force was doing, every other line was post-modernly ironic and completely at odds with the severity of the situation. Nothing mattered except transferring the Jesus allegory from Luke to Leia and shoehorning more messages about socialism, feminism, and intersectionality.
This happened to Star Wars just like everything else...Reddit and movie review sites are filled with left-leaning people falling over themselves clapping hysterically about how this movie "tore down our expections" One mouth-breather said it was refreshing to see that nothing seemed to be too dramatic and that the characters were just there experiencing things. We just wanted to see new and interesting things being done by new and old characters together in a familiar setting but that's now offensive somehow...
