I think the first version sounds better, but English is my 4th language, so don't take my word too seriously.

No, I agree both are a touch awkward, but the "There's a limit to" is a bit better. "Can only go so far" makes it sound like Nitta isn't going all that far.

This is always quite the sides workout.

Also, man, the standard bar is 20kg/45lbs.
Hence why 1 plate = 60kg or 135lbs.
