Haven't watched much of the anime, so I don't know how it compares, but the manga is meh. I like the art (if not the character designs), and I love the concept, but the actual writing is pretty lazy and repetitive.

Because it was cool for it's time. Most of the fans back in the day were young. Young enough to not care the glaring stupid issues it had with the narrative. Clothes were cool. It was easy to self insert because muh zodiac sign and the whole greek mythology narrative still is a main drawing point even now with Japan being infested with nordic mythology shit in LNs.

Eh, it's kind of like Dragonball Super animation-wise, but with new designs that go way over the top rather than being pallet swaps.

You've got some greatly animated episodes and fighting scenes with tons of mediocre to horrible ones between them.

Season 1 starts with some school stuff that's soon dropped and then it becomes "Saint Seiya, the new generation" basically remaking the original arcs with a younger cast -however that remake is basically filler between the actual new story points that also happen to have the best animated battle - so you end up with oddities like the entire show contorting itself for a new Silver and Gold Saints arc, only for the gold Saint arc to be rushed halfway through in order to get to the actual relevant new story on time before the end of the season.

Season 2 brings back the characters from the original anime into action- but it also goes with a more original set up for the first half - the Saints actually act like an army for once! But that's dumped in the 2nd half in order to focus on a couple of gold saints and the old protagonists, while the new characters, although getting the strongest power ups, are kind of shafted in focus aside from the new Pegasus and Orion Saints.

Animation also never gets as good as the best moments of season 1, but it also doesn't fall as much. They also attempt to address some complaints about s1 designs, like attempting to make the armors more metallic, even the ones that didn't get redesigns coming from season 1.

Because in Latin America Saint Seiya aired not that long after it came out in Japan. It didn't air in the US until like ~17 years after it aired in Japan.

At that point cartoons and other anime airing then didn't have animation even half as bad as Saint Seiya. Plus the version that original aired on CN was HEAVILY censored.
