I had a 4.0 GPA in high school but went to community college because I had no money (financial aid goes based off parent's income, not how much they actually give to you). Was full of retards but transferred with associate's degree and another 4.0 GPA to a state school. Getting a job with a friend though so I'll never know how much the particular school matters. Community college is still very cheap though, just make sure you don't waste time taking useless classes.

Also I should point out that you won't make any close friendships (although gf is possible) in community college. Many people are either rich international students (parking lot has plenty of Ferraris and Lamborghinis) or the absolute opposite (sleepy people who work all day and try to stay awake in class, drive a 20-year-old shitbox). It wasn't fun not fitting in but just keep telling yourself that it's temporary and worth saving the money.
