Rose of Versailles

I just finished this, let's have a thread. Have you seen it? What'd you think?

Oscar is my wife. Literally the perfect woman.

Best shojo by far

Dont forget the designs for anime were made by Shingo Araki

It's an amazing anime. Oscar is a superb character and GAR as fuck.

Shingo Araki is overrated. He drew cute characters in mid-70s when few could but in the 80s he was a relic who couldn't draw in three dimensions for his life.

Great show, i fucking loved it

what was his endgame?

Masterpiece. Thereare not even Hollywood movies with real actors that can compete with this, it's simply perfection.

Yes.

Fucking masterpiece. Melodrama done perfectly. Oscar is my waifu and has been for 15 years.

Great show. Fuck André though.

Then RIP Louis Joseph.

He wanted to cruch that puss, then he wanted to protect his the French goverment. then joined up with the plebs 'cuz it was in at the time.

Andre did nothing wrong

Killed by peasants.

Just a reminder that the sequel to RoV, Eikou no Napoleon, will never get translated or adapted.

>joined up with the plebs

No he didn't.

He began to slowly hate them as the series went on, resulting in him becoming a tyrant when he returned to Sweden.

My mom was proud of me for watching it.

Why?

The best. Everyone should watch this show.

>no Oscar

what is the point

It has Rosalie though. The next best thing.

It's one of the best balanced shoujos in existence

The greatest shoujo series in existence. To me, Oscar is one of the best female characters in the history of manga and anime. She's independent and can do things what other men can (sometimes even better) but there still is that feminine side of hers somewhere. Also, she's so based that she can be waifu AND husbando at the same time.

>someone saved my OC
Oscar is 俺の嫁

Sparkly.

...

wtf isnt this guy Reinhard von Lohengram

I really liked the manga. I'm definitely not big on shojo but Rose of Versailles was on point.
How much, if at all, does the anime deviate on plot and happenings? I'll probably watch it sometime anyway but I'm interested in knowing if it does anything different, because I suspect it focuses more on Oscar as she was much more popular than Marie Antoinette.

My god can they give the NA release of the manga already

>Riyoko Ikeda didn't create manga about his country

PORANDO STRONKU

You're right about it focusing more on Oscar. It also has solid direction and a great soundtrack.

It removes a lot of the comedy that was in the manga and is darker than it too. That might appeal to you depending on your tastes, but I'd say that the anime is definitely better.

The only anime that can put you to sleep faster than Hyouka.

Is Andre the most pathetic beta orbiter of all times?
It took 30 years of servitude, always second to Oscar, losing an eye and a revolution for him to finally get the pussy, and then he died like a retard.

*blocks your path*

>being behind slavs

O kurwa ten smród

When you meet a top quality girl like Oscar, you're not going to settle for any less.

Also, Oscar was his bro as well as his crush and bros always look out for each-other.

That's great, I generally like it when adaptations take some liberties and do their own thing. Doesn't always work, but it's better than just rehashing.

He also had to watch his "bro" getting railed by Fersen and fingerbanged by Marie Antoinette before getting any.
And their first time together, after all that wait, you just know he came as soon as he put it in. And the following day he died.
What a cuck.

He won after years of preparation for the ultimate waifu.
>wait 29 years and be a servant to your waifu
>on the 30th year you attain wizard status and begin to cast the osananajimi magic
>its fucking impossible because your waifu has reached the equivalent of a male wizard, a motherfucking valkyrie
>sacrifice your sight in a final effort to complete the spell
>it works
>die after, but your waifu does the same
It was worth every second -Andre

I remember seeing primetime TV ads for the blu-ray boxset while in Italy. I think Rose of Versailles is just obscenely popular all over Europe.

BARA WA BARA WA

Honestly, Andre's death was kind of lackluster. Although Oscar's reaction made my heart hurt ;_;

>italian """""" Lady Oscar""""""""
Literally worse than Hitler.

Rosalie was the absolute worst. Ikeda even wrote her out because so many hated her.

She's quite cute without the Dezaki manface

And those people have shit taste.

Antoinette is the real worst girl.

...

I kind of thought Oscar's love for him was a bit contrived to be honest. There's was barely any build up.

>Antoinette is the real worst girl.
>implying
She was misunderstood!

IMO it was more like a crush or a form of escapism on her part, seeing how Marie Antoniette did have an actual relationship with him she probably wanted to experience the same thing but at the same time she had never allowed herself to act as a normal woman.

What I wonder is wheter or not Oscar genuinely loved Fersen at all.

She mentioned to Andre near the start of the series that she was envious of how Antoinette was able to express herself freely and happily, so her love might have been a projection of that envy.

I mean I'm pretty convinced she was genuinely in love with him after that whole ball/dress incident.

...

saint juste as fuck

Saint Juste is what happens when there's no Andre to set Oscar straight.

I would watch a Robespierre anime.

it's kind of wild you can literally see oscar's age progression
it makes me sad too

It's actually satisfying to see her grow from a cute girl into a delicious cake over the course of those 20 years.

The length of time the series takes place over really makes the show feel like a grand epic.

So which is better to experience first? The anime or the manga?

Anime without a doubt.
