First, Kanna and Kyouka sit together because they're the oldest friends. Kanna is the type to insist on the window seat, and Kyouka puts up with that.
Shino, Hayari and Rena sit close to Kanna and Kyouka as the original Yumachi Elementary friends, Shino being closer to Hayari than to Rena due to Rena just being a tag-along and not a player. Rena could have sat next to Sakane-sensei to free up one couch, but Rena is scared of her.
Ayuko (the slit-eyed one) and Mirin (the big one) were introduced together, and walked in the mahjong clubroom at the same time, implying they are bests friends.
As club president, Shizuku is obligated as per Japanese honoraburu ruuru to converse with the club advisor as she has graciously chosen to accompany her club to their tournament. Is it wrong that this is the most excited I've gotten for Saki content in years? It probably doesn't help that Teru is my favorite character.

predictions:
semi: Rio loses big; Kanna wins and Kyouka loses to restore balance to their friendship; Hayari and Shino win to advance to the final
final: Rio improves but still loses, Kanna and Kyouka both lose, but it's not a sweep for Komosawa due to a win by a 3rd school. Hayari wins and Shino wins to advance Yumachi on total points.
Zenkoku: Shino meets up with old friends and searches for her mother in Tokyo. Anything could happen. Maybe Yumachi actually wins since Shino apparently didn't win in high school.
