A picture from an anime called K-on depicting a data storage device known as a cassette tape.

It doesn't really look like anything at all.

Why do you make this thread in jest?

You do realize that this will be a serious question on this board one day?

It's all fun in games, but in due time it'll hurt.

>the K-ONs are older than most posters here

>A long lost technology
If you know what is this, you must have at least 300 years old.

They're fucking binoculars, don't you see the holes where you look through?
Fucking millennials, man. I swear.

IT'S TAPE

>mfw listening autistic shit with my walkman

No, THIS is a floppy disk.

But that's a vinyl record you fucking moron.

Part of what was neat about tape as a way of recording and storing music and videos comes from the way they would mess up. To play the actual media, the tape has to get pulled out and dragged along a reader, but sometimes it would get tangled up. So you would have to carefully open up the player and gently work the ribbon of tape free. Then you end up with a cassette with this long strand of, like, guts hanging free that you carefully respool to fix it. But some of the internal parts of the player and the entire tape itself have sharp edges. So you would pretty commonly get little cuts on your fingers and hands as you went through this process. Any tape that you had for a long time and watched or listened to a lot would end up with at least a little of your blood on the tape itself. There's nothing like that kind of relationship with digital media, unfortunatly.

Speak for yourself, I cum on my SSD every day.

What was neat about that? This shit drove me crazy about tapes. They also didn't last very long, the quality of some VHS tapes degraded so horribly that you might end up with something like that: youtu.be/GZ43-q5Z3sA?t=22s. Thank god those times are over.

I had tapes like those. Unfortunately they're no longer in good condition because of rotational velocidensity. I should've bought Imation tapes instead.

I agree with you. That said, the VHS/cassette aesthetic is still fairly popular these days.

Shit, somehow that makes sense, Lain does have a good synergy with VHS tapes.
