To Love-Ru: Darkness Volume 77

What now?
I'm generally shocked at what happened. What is planned for now (if there is a plan)?

Hopefully ESL-kun hangs himself because yui got a shit ending just like the rest

That's it? That's all? It wasn't even conclusive..

It ended the same way the original did. Almost word for word.

Aka were getting a sequel. It'll get announced in chronicle.

But Yabuki said he was tired of drawing Romantic Comedies. Maybe there will be a sequel, but not any time soon.

Anyone that didn't expect an inconclusive ending is probably retarded, considering how TLR ended. Actually, would you guys prefer Haruna winning and Rito rejecting everyone else TWGOK style?

Maybe there will be a genre/setting shift

>That's it? That's all? It wasn't even conclusive..
Welcome to Japan.

>make 170 chapters of first series
>open ending, everyone is mad
>make second series for almost 80 monthly chapters trying to give it a conclusive ending
>end it exactly the same way

They can't be this retarded. FUCKING MAKE A THIRD SERIES.

no he didn't. people take the quote out of context too much.

That could be awesome if done right

No, just let it die.

It was a disappointing ending, but we can move on now.

trash Rito

Lala better than Haruna i swear fxxxcckk

He thinks about Haruna in the end. How sweet.

Her and Lala were the winners to me.

>Darkness ran longer than the original
I know monthly versus weekly but still

What the fuck is going on this week?
>I am a hero ended, and it was super disappointing
>Boku Girl ended, and it was super disappointing
>TLR: Darkness ended, and it was super disappointing

Holy fuck japan, get your shit together

eh.

Japan is bad at making ending.
Nothing new.

So this ended with Rito as a space lord or whatever with a huge harem, right? Since it was the entire point of this sequel series.

It cannot possibly have a complete non-progression open end.

So Mea and Nana had a lesbian ending?

I think japan mainly has a different concept of ending than us western, they see it as something less definitive and more of just a change in the status quo, but then life goes on, not necessarily being better of worse, wile we look more for some kind of closure.

That said there is plernty of manga with endings I liked, both giving closure or being more open and inconclusive.
These three mango though where just underwhelming.
Boku Girl MC finally resolving to fully be a girl killed the charm. I hoped till the end in a threeway relationship with MC, gorilla and bigtits.
I am a hero, I'm kinda fine with it but I wish there was a bit more closure not in Hideo personal story, but in the world's happenings.
TLR... fuck TLR. I wish the spineless faggot grew a bit of a spine and resolved either to go out with one girl or to definitely go on with the harem plan.
Instead we got neither of that and there was close to zero character growth. Disgusting.

>exactly the same fucking end as the first series
>an entire series has gone past and we have literally gone no where

>I think japan mainly has a different concept of ending than us western, they see it as something less definitive and more of just a change in the status quo, but then life goes on, not necessarily being better of worse, wile we look more for some kind of closure.

I've been living in Japan and I can tell you this is a bunch of shit. They get just as pissed off with non-endings of any media as the rest of us.

Okay, nevermind then.
That was just an impression I got out of reading a lot of mangos.

the only ones to escape rito's pull. the true heros.

Here's the thing
>Authour knows he has to end a manga
>either give no fucks and give it a shit ending or give it a open ending to get a chance for a sequel and keep riding your own gold laying chicken

Sadly, manga end like this because

a) when and even how a manga ends is usually more up to an editor
b) the industry doesn't tend to attract the most socially-competent of people, so romantic subplots tend to be shit. Also, art universities, which these folks usually go to, don't teach narrative so most manga artists just mimic what they read growing up, so the cycle of social sperg just continues.

>zero character growth
hes actually even worse than when he started. At the very beginning he had a bit of a spine but its all gone now.

That's still technically character growth. Just shit character growth that doesn't help propel to a conclusion.

Makes sense I guess.
So the real cancer is the impatience of editors/publishers that can't tolerate slow chapters that lower the rankings and that have the power of asking an author to quit midway, hence the shit ending either out of spite or out of leaving it open.
Fuck editors.
Mangakas should be free to decide when to quit on their own.
Except Togashi and MIura, those two nips should taste the whip.

>Mangakas should be free to decide when to quit on their own.
Sadly, it is a bussiness user, though I agree many great manag end for bullshit reasons or simply because the very same editors are shit at their jobs

>Togashi
he has legit health issues.
Miura tho. I'd really like to know what is the actual deal with him.

>what is the actual deal with him.
Simply put, he has abolutely NO IDEA of how to continue the plot or advance his own story

He also created a Claymore situation, the big bad guys power gap with the good guys is absolutely bullshit

77 chapters and they couldn't come up with something better than the status quo? Remember the pole scene at the end of the original manga? It's the same shit.

>he has legit health issues.

These don't stop him from participating in shogi tournaments or all the other shit he does in his mountains of spare time. "Health issues" don't last for over a decade.

You're right.
I'm being naive complaining only about the manga industry being like this, when all the entertainment industry is like this.

Same cancer afflicts Hollywood and test screenings lowering movies to the minimum common denominator butchering them before they hit the screens.
Same cancer afflicts TV series (Rip Firefly, Rip Dollhouse).
There is something wrong with the entertainment industry today, but I have no idea how it can be fixed.
Maybe Patreon is a step in the right direction, even if it can't work for high budget stuff.

>Togashi
Does he?
I'm not saying he absolutely hasn't health problem, but how much id he exagerating them and is just lazy?

>tfw after they got down the boat I picked up Berserk feeling smug for aving avoided the big hiatus
>tfw Berserk is on hiatus again

>Berserk is on hiatus again
Oh boy I remember the BIG announcement

>BERSERK WIL BE MONTHLY AGAIN STARTING NEXT MONTH
>3 chapters later
>hiatus till later in the year
>then hiatus till next year

>they couldn't come up with something better than the status quo
People who are superfans of the series don't want it to end right now, so a status quo ending leaves TLR open for a 3rd series.
Also, this doesn't seem to be status quo, since now, all three main "lovers" know they love each other.
What's left is how to get every other heroine in the action.

even if there were another sequel, they've shown they have no real intention of resolving anything ever. do you really wanna get suckerd into another nothing happens fest.

If it means more Yabuki art then yeah.

I feel like when japaneese author decides to make an ending for his work he puts his life at risk, especially when he was aiming for the waifufags. After such a long lasting series ends on someone losing chances are their fans would fucking kill you, so they decide on limp dick conclusions.

That being said I haven't followed TLRD for quite some time, why didn't harem plan come into fruition? Seemed like a good choice considering that there are galaxy rulers involved in the story.

if thats all then he could just do an entirely new series.

To Love-Ru Alternative when?

You are now tasked with writing the third installment of TLR.

What's the plot and title?

TLR: Rito Mans-Up and Fucks Everyone Edition
The plot is self-explanatory

But you won't see Lala, Momo, Yui, Tearju, Nemesis, Mikan, heck, just about everyone from TLR in an entirely new series.

Legend of the Overfiend/Bible Black tier storytelling. You have to crank up the PLOT a notch.

And then, another open ending because fuck you.

Rito is kill and Nemesis fucks everyone with dark matter dildos.

The name is irrelevant.

To Love Ru:Just Fuck My Harem Up Pregnancy Edition

>People are still reading this shit
KeK

To Love-Ru or how I learned to stop worrying and start loving my little sister - sexually.

yabuki is prone to cameos, and I'd be fine with not seeing some of these shits again.

Even more shocking than the ending is what a cunt Mikan became in her last panel.

What the fucking point is there of making a new ecchi manga with Yabuki art if all you're doing is reusing every fucking character from the previous manga?
Fuck off.

>ecchi manga
this is all people expect of him now. poor guy.

Barely nothing happened in the original TLR as well, and it still led to really good sales. TLR is like that series that you continually read in the newspaper. That's what it's like reading it.

Why would Yabuki quit Toloveru? He's only 37 and this is a monthly schedule work that has a massive merchandising industry behind it.

What is cunty about Mikan there?

Could be simply tired of drawing the same thing every month.

"To Love-Ru: Harem" when?

He kinda dug his own grave there though

Oh come the FUCK on

I don't know guys, I think that it was super interesting.

Because Nemesis became principla of the school and forced it to happen, then Haruna confessed to Rito, then Rito realized he's a moralfag and doesn't want a harem but still loves Lala too.
So he wants to dump lala, he starts crying at the memories and Haruna says "well, for now let's split Rito" and then Momo confesses.
And now the harem plan isn't completely dismissed even if Rito is not sure about it, because he's so beta that Haruna decided for him in the moment he should have grown a spine.

Momo best girl.

To Love Ru - Enlightment
Rito goes full fedora to avoid female contact, all the females that still haven't realized their feeling do and start actively pursuing Rito.
At the end he realizes that being a MGTOW doesn't suit him, Rito awakens, biggest orgy of all time ensues.

Liying to Yami out of jelousy, so that she doesn't put a move on her oni-chan?

Only if the Twizzlers win

could also be seen as just trying to not get Yami's hopes up because she knows Rito and Haruna successfully confessed to each other. She did tell Rito he needs to make things clear to the other girls last chapter.

Woah! A series made of fan service is forgetting the plot! Now i cant make up excuses to fap on it REEEEE

Name something that actually has a good ending. Protip, Japan can't.

Disgusting.

Isn't the problem that we are reading "serials" that could end anytime and generally have the goal to run as long as possible?

(That does not excuse them of not having thought about an exit-strategy though.)

>art universities, which these folks usually go to, don't teach narrative
I wonder if that isn't the better option. Imagine if they got infected with SJW-narratives.

Or if everyone would just regurgitate the same plot101.

I mad because this series can end with a legit harem-ending if only Rito grow a fucking spine. Fuck Japan.

chapter, not volume

There are a couple I enjoyed
Mostly older stuff, nothing recent.
Usually shorter stories though, not long running manga.

>Isn't the problem that we are reading "serials" that could end anytime and generally have the goal to run as long as possible?
Generally, yes. This is the major problem with mango and to some extend LNs. Since manga run until they either get axed or author gets tired of them, writers need to be able to create content indefinitely. And just writing things as you go without resorting to rigorously maintaining status quo requires actual skill, which most manga authors do not have. Of course you could just decide you will write only 50 chapters and properly plan everything out, however neither authors nor publishers want that.

It's very common occurrence for series to have a nice premise that works really well for 15-30 chapters, only to suddenly have a massive quality drop, either because we got out of the scope of the pre-planned material, or author halts developments and starts stalling for time.

That being said, this issue doesn't justify the crap authors are doing, because if you can write a series that is completely made of status quo, you can as well write a series that has both development bits and slower parts.
Case in point being TLR. Going from meeting Lala to the King of Universe with a harem of dozen of girls can easily fill like 70-100 chapters of pure development. Pad it with same fanservice filler we're getting every month and viola, you have 200-300 chapters of content.

Let's be honest, this industry is either unable or unwilling to actually write something. Constant status quo, passive MCs that refuse to do fun stuff, subplots going nowhere, cockblocking, backpedaling, cowardly writing. It's not just stalling for time, in many cases developments would naturally produce enough material to keep series going for years, without resorting to tedious "nothing happened" crap. It's true that autism is strong with this industry, but authors and publishers go beyond playing it safe and reach paranoid levels of passiveness.

Fullmetal Alchemist manga

>SJW narratives
Japan's universities aren't infected like that

>SJW-narratives
This is the country where women tell their politicians that banning ryona porn is not the answer.

So, who did the mc fuck?

No one, that's the point.

>fuck
He didn't even properly kiss anyone.

Maybe it will become fully uncesored hentai.

>are set to continue

At least we know TLR 3 is definitely happening.

Still the fact that the ending is basically how the first one ended just expanded is basically a go fuck yourself to the audience.

Just go back to Black Cat already

>the ending is basically how the first one ended
Yup, the only plot points Darkness resolved, were the ones it introduced.
It was a spinoff all along.
animenewsnetwork.com/news/2010-07-29/to-love-ru-spinoff-manga-series-to-launch-in-october

I want more Nemesis goddammit.

Just read it, its better than I thought it would be from the Korean scan and what I read in the last threads. Im not particularly happy with it, but im not pissed either. Its the ending I actually always thought we would get.

some good things
>Rito finally showing some affection towards a girls
>Haruna confirming she will tolerate other girls
>Momo finally confessed
>Mikan being jealous of yamis attention to her oniichan

Weve come a long way this series
>Mikan spening time naked with her oniichan
>Haruna, Momo and Yami confessed
>2 additional Living weapons subdued

The only big thing I would have liked before an ending would have been some more Nana-Rito development.

Harem King no To-love-ru

>TLR ended August 2009
>TLRD was announced September 2010
>TRLD started October, 2010

ok, so based on this, we will get the TLRG announcement April next year, and it will start that May.

Before then its too soon to say there wont be a 3rd one.

Hopefully they will try some new nyan nyan overrun or some shit, fail, and realize they are literally nothing without TLR.

>haruna ending

Imagine Detective Conan with them actually growing older. So much potential.

TLR could have easily done more by just letting stuff run it's course and worldbuild the universe a bit more.

I have to say though, that TLR produces more satisfying endings than most manga.

>Hopefully they will try some new nyan nyan overrun or some shit, fail, and realize they are literally nothing without TLR.
You don't want him to get bitter.

They have to get flooded with so many lewd Doujinnshi, that they can't help themselves but continue.

we got more girls
and rito is powerful
and at least he told his girl he loves her

to love ru climax
