>New UNSC resolution slashes oil & petroleum supplies to N. Korea over missile launch
The UN Security Council has unanimously imposed a new round of sanctions on North Korea following its latest ballistic missile test launch. The resolution seeks to ban nearly 90 percent of refined oil product exports to Pyongyang. The exports of refined petroleum products to North Korea will be capped at 500,000 barrels a year, according to the new UN resolution.
Crude oil exports will be limited to 4 million barrels a year. In addition to drastically cutting oil product exports to the isolated country, the measure also demands the repatriation of all North Koreans working abroad within 24 months.
>The new resolution was drafted by the US in response to the most resent ballistic missile test conducted by Pyongyang on November 29. The final document did not incorporate the harsher restrictions sought by the US, which included a total ban on exporting oil products to North Korea, as well as freezing all the international assets of the country’s leadership.
So there are gonna be additional sanctions on N. Korea. Annihilation of America when?

>Putin: New US national security strategy is offensive & aggressive, Russia must take note
Both the US and NATO have been "accelerating build-up of infrastructure in Europe," the Russian leader said Friday. Referring to the "defense strategy recently put out" by Washington, Putin said it was "definitely offensive... speaking in diplomatic language."
"And if we switch to military language, then its character is definitely aggressive," the president added, speaking at a Russian Defense Ministry meeting.
"Formally," America's missile-defense launchers now based in Poland are meant to counter threats, he said. "The point is, and specialists know about it very well, those launchers are all-purpose. They can also be used with existing sea-launched cruise missiles with the flight range of up to 2,500 km [1,550 miles]. And in this case, these missiles are no longer sea-launched missiles, they can be easily moved to land," Putin added.
>Russia's Defense Ministry "should take into account" Western military strategies, Putin said, adding that "Russia has a sovereign right and all possibilities to adequately and in due time react to such potential threats."
There are efforts to disrupt strategic parity through deployment of global anti-missile defense system and other strike systems "equatable to nuclear weapons," the Russian leader told military officials. At the moment, Russia's strategic nuclear forces are a reliable deterrent to such a military build-up, he added. However, it is necessary to develop them further, Putin said. "I'm talking about missile systems fit to steadily counter not only existing, but also future ABMs."

Italy airlifts refugees from Libya detention centers
Italy was organizing a first airlift of refugees from Libyan detention centers on Friday. The migrants are due to arrive later Friday in Rome, the Italian Interior Ministry said. The group includes vulnerable refugees – women, children and the elderly – who are entitled to international protection, AP reported. Rome and the EU have come under criticism from human rights groups for allegedly helping the Libyan coastguard more effectively patrol its coasts to prevent smugglers from operating. The policy has condemned refugees to torture and other inhuman treatment at the hands of Libyan militias, according to rights activists.
Are you sure there isn't a way to hack around that? otherwise I will try to check if gokmoot is paying all its dues of the fees of creating a Sup Forums account, and, in case, report him to the authorities

With Palmyra capped (temporarily) by ISIS, it creates a giant logistical clusterfuck for the SAA and civilians. Apart from the DeZ-Bishri-Resafa-Ithriya highway, East Syria will be cut off from West Syria. And if ISIS goes south and links up with the FSA, the FSA can then move into Palmyra after a 'sudden withdrawal' by ISIS, and make life more difficult.
It also cuts the Tehran-Beirut road.
Lincoln Diaz
So their best hope is that IS pocket right there. Hmm I did not follow that close but how many would there be in there?

UN says quarter of Rohingya refugee children ‘acutely malnourished’
A quarter of Rohingya children under the age of five who fled to Bangladesh from Myanmar suffer from potentially life-threatening levels of malnutrition, the UN children’s agency warned Friday. It said that three health and nutrition surveys conducted between October 22 and November 27 showed up to 25 percent of the young children crammed into Bangladeshi refugee camps have acute malnutrition, among other maladies, AFP reports. More than 655,000 people from the Rohingya minority Muslim community are reported to have fled Myanmar’s Rakhine state since late August during military operations that the UN has described as ethnic cleansing.
>IS pocket About that. Remember Qaryatayn back in October? ISIS was nowhere near the city, but they stealthed in from al-Tanf, and with the assistance of corrupt NDF and the element of surprise, they took over the city. I suspect the same script will be used for Palmyra. >how many would there be in there? No more than 1000. And that's a high estimate.

Philippines communist rebels declare Christmas truce after similar govt move
Communist guerrillas in the Philippines declared a Christmas truce on Friday after the government made a similar overture. The separate moves occurred despite a recent breakdown of peace talks. New People’s Army spokesman Jorge Madlos announced that the Maoist guerrillas would hold their fire from December 23 to December 26 and from December 30 to January 2, AP said. The Philippines military’s unilateral ceasefire is scheduled for the same period. Despite their separately declared ceasefires, both sides have ordered their forces to brace for possible attacks.

I just read on an Italian newspaper that they brought 160 people in I talk but at the same time they also brought 130 alleged refugees back to Niger (so you can bring them away from smugglers and look good) So I guess there's some little strategy of some sort there?

Right I get you now! They could do again the Tanf thing with an element of surprise and also pushing from their pocket, it would have the SAA setback quite a bit....
Arab reports of Israeli strikes in Syria in the lasr few minutes

The SAA will definitely have the edge when attacking from the north. Not just in Mazra'at Beit Jinn, but also in Beit Jinn proper. In fact, proper Beit Jinn will be easier than Mazra'at Beit Jinn, despite being surrounded by high ground. Paradoxically, the high ground exposes the town. After Mazra'at Beit Jinn is cleared, the SAA will have control over part of the southern mountain ridge, and that alone is an excellent launch pad for securing the rest of that ridge. Furthermore, the FSA controls the high ground to the north of Beit Jinn, but the SAA controls the higher ground to the north. The high ground to the SW of proper Beit Jinn is actually irrelevant.
Actually, these two cities are key to the defense of the whole pocket. If Beit Jinn falls, Mazra'at Beit Jinn just lost their rear defense, and it's GG. If Mazra'at Beit Jinn falls, Beit Jinn will quickly find itself surrounded on all sides, and it's GG.
True but most anons will only care that x+160-130 =x+30.

UN envoy hails 1st step in Astana on Syria detainees, cautious on Sochi congress plan
UN envoy Staffan de Mistura said Syria talks in the Kazakh capital Astana on Friday had agreed on a “working group” for the release of detainees, Reuters reported. He described the decision as a commendable first step towards an arrangement between the warring sides. The envoy also said that Russia’s plan to convene a Syrian National Dialogue Congress in Sochi next month should be assessed by “its ability to contribute to and support the UN-led Geneva talks on ending the war in Syria.”
The village is cut off, it will be captured any day now.
Levi Garcia
>it would have the SAA setback quite a bit.... Logistically, it would cut Syria in half: East/West, with the Bright Green road being the only road between the two regions. Take note on how close the Kurds are to a key junction (Resafa). Mughr al-Mir was their last line of defense before the two key cities, and it's starting to look like SAA/Hezbollah are attempting to simply bypass that defense.
Joseph Cooper
Reports are of a strike on Hezbollah positions. Many reports of dead and injured too.
Xavier Thompson
interesting times! I hope that they do expect for this to happen and that the iranian convoy will be put to work!
I updated the map to show the roads that would get shut down. Red would continue as before Purple would get shut down because of an ISIS takeover of Palmyra.

Syrian National Dialogue Congress to be held in Sochi on January 29-30 – Kazakhstan
The Syrian National Dialogue Congress will be held in Russia’s Sochi on January 29-30, TASS quoted Director of the Asian and Africa Department at Kazakhstan’s Foreign Ministry Aidarbek Tumatov as saying on Friday. The eighth round of the international talks on Syria was set to conclude in Kazakhstan’s capital of Astana on Friday. The dates and the list of participants in the Syrian National Dialogue Congress is being discussed. Among other topics on the agenda are the situation in the Syrian de-escalation zones, particularly in the Idlib area, demining and humanitarian issues. Moscow earlier put forward an initiative to convene the Syrian National Dialogue Congress in the Black Sea resort of Sochi, saying that the event will not be an alternative to the intra-Syrian talks in Geneva, but is aimed at facilitating the Geneva process.
US ‘disqualified itself from Middle East peace process,’ Abbas says on Paris visit
The US has “disqualified” itself from the Middle East peace process due to its recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas said in Paris on Friday. “The US are no longer an honest mediator in the peace process, we will not accept any plan put forward by the US,” Abbas said at a joint news briefing with French President Emmanuel Macron. Abbas also condemned a threat by US President Donald Trump to cut off financial aid to countries that voted at the UN against Washington’s decision. Macron reiterated on Friday that France remained committed to a “two-state” solution, namely one in which Israel and Palestine peacefully co-exist side-by-side with one another, Reuters said.
