It's definitely worth watching from the start of the anime, though it has a slow start, it gets so good. Top-tier. If you can't get through the slow start, maybe read it instead. And yes, from the start. Don't skip anything because every character will likely make a second appearance later on.

I recommend watching them after maybe the first 25 or so episodes, just because the dude has a couple of cameos. They are still some of the worst episodes though. The filler later in the series is amazing though.

Since Gorilla is bringing all the characters in the last arc and final major fight, he'll probably make him return one way or another. Also, Kamui has somewhat turned into a good guy now after Rakuyo arc. Umibouzo will definitely return to help out his daughter though.
