They always stick to one of two extremes - either series is nothing but cockblocking and blueballing or it's so oversaturated with smut, characters have sex as a greeting. We just don't see couples gradually becoming more and more intimate and fanservice shifting towards intentional lewds.
And no, I'm not fishing for your list of few exceptions, I've already read them.

I don't buy the purityfags argument, there are successful series where characters had sex. I know there are some autists that are buttblasted even when the VA has sex, but there always will be someone throwing a fit.
I also understand that manga release model isn't particularly development-friendly, as authors need to be able to produce new content indefinitely, but letting characters have sex isn't the end of the game, especially in series where romance isn't the only plot line.
And in this case the "do not piss off shipfags" doesn't work either, since it's a true harem and everyone's a winner.

Like Tenchi Muyo, Konosuba or Love Hina or even stuff like Ranma they focus on the female characters deficiencies that make the romance impossible to continue. These then are the focus of the plot without any implication that there could be any sort of romantic development before major changes occurred in people's personalities or the overall situation.
