Why do you think One Punch Man hit mainstream popularity at such a fast rate? It's a show that people who don't even like anime that much seem to love.

Maybe because it's fun.

It's unique. It's fun.

It's a parody of the genre. You don't need to know honorifics, cliches, inside jokes, and all of that other shit.
You're just watching a dude punching shit and making a funny face while doing so.

It's got everything that got people into anime in the first place combined with the more laid back normie focused nature of 90's anime.
It's animated action porn of the highest quality that was obviously done by people who were good and loved both the medium and genre itself.

After the outright embarassment that is Super people just threw DB under the bus as the GOTO action anime of normies and replaced it with OPM.

>father always loved DC/Marvel superheros
>wasn't really big into anime but watched Patlabor, Macross, Space Battleship Yamato, and all the stuff on Scifi
>introduce him to OPM
>liked first episode
>loved second episode
>started bugging me about buying the manga by the 4th episode

>It's a parody of the genre
This exactly.

Because it's a parody of the most mainstream shit possible.

OPM is shit that naturally draws superhero/comic book fans in even if they don't like anime. Same shit with Hero Academia.

Hero Academia is written for 12-year olds and isn't a parody. It doesn't have the same widespread appeal at all.

It's braindead and random so obviously normals will like it.

>normie
>normies
Fuck off.

> You don't need to know honorifics
What? You need to know honorifics just as much or as little as for almost any other anime.

Attack on Titan would've been a better example. My bad.

It's braindead action.

That's stupid. You're stupid.
Is it? I dropped that shit years ago when Eren and the grumpy lesbian midget giant were kidnapped. I haven't kept up with its popularity.

It's still fairly up there in popularity.

It's funny enough, and hits at the right time, with the Superhero fad, right now.

It's a parody of common shonen tropes that even casuals are familiar with and manages to be funny while also delivering well-done emotional moments as well. On top of that the animation and fight scenes are overall well done and it has plenty of legitimately cool character designs to go along with the silly ones. it also came out at a time when shows like Attack on Titan had prepped a wider audience of normies to give the occasional anime a try.

>normies

Fuck off newfag

I don't know man, I just really like Saitama a lot. Saitama is a cute.

But anyways, I can't stand the people who watch it because they like to do these hypothetical battles between Dragonball and Saitama which is really annoying and got more mainstream because of that Death Battle garbage. Literally all you see is Zfags and OPMniggers fighting each other over who is the strongest, even though Saitama is a parody character and creating battles between different series is stupid enough as it is.

There are parodies for every kind of shonen archetype, so there are jokes for fans of a lot of series.
For example, my favorite character is Metal Bat, and he is just an over-the-top representation of the Japanese delinquent (my favorite manga genre).
OPM is just a bunch of shonen parodies fighting other parodies. I guess normalfags love that.

>trying this hard to fit in

people that use "normies" should not be here.

/r9k/ here, why not?

Normies is the politically correct variant of normalfag.

Nah, it just rolls off the tongue better

>rolls off the tongue
>typing

Listen here, you little shit...

>/r9k/ here
That's why.
