Anime with other people

>be me, yesterday
>with group of friends talking about movies
>girl says she watched Ponyo and really liked it
>say "isn't that an anime? Do you actually watch that stuff?"
>she got REALLY insecure and stopped talking about it

How do you guys respond when others bring up anime in real life?

Fuck off and kill yourself, normalfag, this isn't your blog.

I'm not blogging, I want to know what you guys do in real life when other people talk about anime. Do you ignore it, add to the discussion? Shoot it down so as not to associate yourself with it?

Pretend not to know anything about it. Most people don't understand anime, and will pass judgement on it based on the worst of the medium. It's not worth the energy explaining, especially when most people are into shit that isn't any better (bad reality shows, the latest marvel movie, etc)

I have friends who watch anime. Mostly just discuss it with them. Otherwise I won't bring it up unless the other person does first. It's not complicated.

This.
Hide your powerlevel

Ask about something that isn't the big four or a ghibli movie, and i take note of how they talk/dress — if they aren't fedora tippers and take to the conversation well I invite them over for Friday night watchathons and see if they behave themselves enough to be invited again. If they sperg I ask them to leave.

>im so insecure about my hobbies i pretend i don't like x to fit in with my friends haha

This was and still is my answer. It used to be the truth, too.

I think this is kind of a shitty post, but why is this ban worthy? Isn't this Sup Forums related?

I used to run home from school to catch it on TV since it aired right about when I got to the bus stop.

Sup Forums is not your blog, faggot

I couldn't agree more. Unfortunately anime has a really bad reputation in the West and it's for many reasons ranging from the stereotypes of those who watch it, early translations primarily dubs from 90's and early 2000's from low tier garbage shows, little girls ect.

Even closest of friends might back their distance from you if you mention you watch it. Some, especially women, will be weirded out entirely. A friend of mine, she joking thought anime was little girl cartoon porn.

This one girl I was speaking to on Tinder, she was from a rather wealthy family, we both we're Donald Trump supporters, she was hot and one of her interests was fucked up/scary movies. We spoke for a couple of days and I brought it up, she asked have I seen any recently and I said I love various medias that are horror including movies, books, videogames, anime. She unmatched after I said anime.

I don't know why I did that. As much as I advise not to bring it up, I did it. Goes to show even if you have a lot in common and get along well, anime is a hard redline no matter fucking what.

Is this the powerlevel thread?

Get better friends. I've literally discussed eromanga circles with mine. They give me shit for using the extension to get past the panda.

I can't stop kek'ing at your misfortune.
