ARIA

Can we have an ARIA Thread?
Just finished watching it again for the 4th time and no matter how many times I see it's still as good as the first time, certain parts of the show still manage to make me cry. Still haven't watched the OVA's though, are they worth it. Feels kind of weird watching them after the perfect ending.

Yeah the OVAs are actually pretty cool, especially the format

The manga's artwork is just so fucking beautiful, it just doesn't translate well into the anime.

The music and voice acting are terrific (well, aside from how annoying the cats are) though.

Never seen it. What's the best subs?

Just started reading manga, and it really seems to feel very different from the anime. Not to say that anime is worse, it's wonderful. But I feel I just might like the manga more.

Bought the manga myself but I only read it once. Always coming back every year around feburary time to rewatch it though. The music and voice acting is just too good. I'd even say it's the best anime OST period.

Just download the ones from bakabt with the most seeders. While I myself don't mind the quality of the BD's most people probabl don't like them but you can get those on nyaa.

I had the same concern before I watched the OVAs, but they were nice. The updated art style and getting to finally see the last Cait Sith chapter animated was a treat.

How would you rate the seasons?
What are your favorite episodes?

I'd go with S1=S3>S2. While I did like season 2 all that supernatural stuff was pretty uninterestingand Akaris enthusiasm and sentimentality kind of becomes annoying especially in that season, the others I don't mind.

I've watched only the first season and didn't really like it. other people say the first season is just a slow introduction to the characters (who felt pretty dull) and 2nd and 3rd seasons would focus on the world of aria which I found more interesting. like aria has a really unique world and setting but it wasn't used in any interesting way, for a slice of life it didn't even feel that comfy because the episodic storylines sucked for the most part. do the seasons really get better?

S2 > S1 > S3. S2 had more laidback, in-depth characterization and ventured deeper into the supernatural aspects of Neo Venezia such as Cait Sith and urban legend, while S3 was too straightforward and less fun for my liking as it focused heavily into becoming a Prima and heart-wrenching at the same time because I didn't want it to end and kinda painful that I wouldn't see them again. Fortunately or unfortunately, we got Avvenire, which was pretty shitty and underwhelming.

Akari's enthusiasm and sentimentality can never be annoying.

S3>S2>S1
The introductory episodes are pretty boring, I honestly didn't even watch the show for the longest time because episode 2 was so uninteresting.
And that kinda continues throughout the season. There are a couple really good episodes but as whole it doesn't compare to season 2 or 3.

Interesting. I think S1 had the most memorable moments for me in the entire series. Like pic related, or when The three water fairies meet up and specifically episode 4 which always manages to make me cry.

this scene always makes me ;_;

Things I don't like for instance is Alice being a bitch to poor Athena who literally does nothing wrong or how those comedy faces can ruin emotional moments like

Ai was a mistake

Didn't like her either. Should have been they way it is in the manga with her writing to her parents or blog.
Speaking of which it's kind of weird how you don't see any of their parents.

Ai is perfect

Top 10 episodes:
1. Origination ep9 (Orange Princess is born)
2. Origination ep12 (Akari is also a prima now)
3. Animation ep11 ("What the future holds for us?" were weak points of mine in Aria)
4. Origination ep13 (GOD-tier epilogue and ending)
5. Natural ep2 (Best of the best when it comes to the adventures of the Akari-Aika-Alice trio)
6. Natural ep24 (Another magnificent future episode)
7. Natural ep13 (Alice and her autist games)
8. Natural ep16 (Sayonara, Gondola-san)
9. Natural ep15 (loli Aika and Alicia and shouta Akatsuki and Woody, shit was too funny and nostalgic)
10. Animation ep7 (Akira and her teaching methods)

As for the seasons: Orig (one of the few 10/10s I've ever given) > Natu = Animation (both are solid 9s, though Animation is a bit weaker).

Save some of the snorefest Caith Sith episodes and the overused chibi bullshit, I loved everything in Aria.

>(loli Aika
loli Akira, fuck me.

why was alice allowed to skip up to a prima despite being an autist?

To be honest, if you didn't like it after ep 11, you probably wouldn't enjoy these kinds of anime. That was the episode when I knew this was going to be a great show.

> those comedy faces can ruin emotional moments
My friend dropped it for the same reason. And he likes ponyshit. Needless to say we rarely talk anymore.

This. Akari is love.

Not sexualizing the Arias was a mistake

I recently watched this episode for the first time.
It really spooked me

These are the official Aria pairings.

Aika x Al
Alice x Athena
Alicia x faceless fat old man
Akira x all the single women of Neo Venezia
Akari x Aqua

Anybody else remember when blogs were kinshii?

>normally marathon SoLs
>it becomes impossible to keep my eyes open halfway through the second episode of Aria

I want to watch the second season, but I'm afraid I'll never wake up if I do.

That episode was fucking 10/10. I didn't even know what avvenire meant and I fucking cried

Reminder that Akira is best girl.

Still didn't watch the OVA's, I just don't want it to end.

>tfw no old Aria chapters with good scan quality like this
Also the bonus chapter was pretty great desu.

It was the same for me, but just because Akari and Alicia's voices were so soothing, and the OST too.

>Alicia isn't real

>how annoying the cats are
Absolute worst taste.
Maa is shit but the rest are great.

I know I'm gonna get "lurk moars" thrown at me since I frequent this place:

But honestly; this series would be he last thing I'd expect Sup Forums to like...

It seemed pretty generic... you know?

It's one of the most universally praised SoL of all time, both in Japan and internationally.

>this series would be he last thing I'd expect Sup Forums to like
Yes lurk more.
Stuff like Hidamari, SnW, and this have long-lasting dedicated fans on Sup Forums, compared to seasonal meme threads that are filled with Sup Forums crossboarders like LWA or konosuba.

Another thing I didn't like about S2 was the characters designs, they looked their worst there. Arietta designs were the best.

Grumpy jiisan could never see the OVA's ;_;

why are you people watching this, i watched 4 episodes from the first season and its pretty much utopia the anime, everyone's happy all the time like they are on drugs. So its kinda boring so far, does this change, or is it always like that ???

>i
>???
How to discard a post in two easy steps.

got it, so its boring all throughout, thx

It hurts knowing we'll never get the series fully printed in English. I'd love to own the series.

>Still haven't watched the OVA's though, are they worth it.
It's worth it for the previously un-adapted chapter but the new stuff feels pretty unnecessary. Especially when there's still at least one chapter that hasn't been animated.

>fully printed in English

Interesting that it isn't. I have all volumes in german. Ara ara in german is pretty stupid though.

No.
If you actually like President Aria there is something wrong with your brain.
Mascot characters are the worst thing in animal and that cat is the worst mascot character.

>The manga's artwork is just so fucking beautiful, it just doesn't translate well into the anime.
Amanchu proved that Amano's drawings can be adapted into anime. I think Aria just looked how it does because the first season was pretty low budget, but they stuck with the designs even as the budget increased

>marathoning Aria
You're doing wrong. Aria is meant to be enjoyed slowly and savoured.

He wouldn't be bad if it weren't for the voice. If he did normal miau's, like Hime, then he'd be great.

The series is alright but I wish the characters were a little less shallow and one-note. Especially Alicia. One shot that sticks out to me even though it was insignificant is when she's got a calculator out doing financials, because she's not smiling like a perfect angel "ara ara"ing for once in her life and instead looks like a real person doing a menial task without much emotion. Ghost lady episode was great too, Akari was genuinely scared for I think the only time in the series. I wanted more moments like those that showed the characters' humanity -- I don't think SOL necessarily needs to be idyllic 100% of the time, need that light and dark in painting.

>tfw you will never see Akari sing and dance

Can't do all of them with Athena's VA dead. The Princess of Bubbleland one for example.

I hate this meme. I finished it all in one week and loved the shit out of it.

>spoiler
You're right. I completely forgot and now I feel bad. It was such a good chapter too.

REMOVE :

Aria shachou
Cait sith episodes
Episodes where some random character is in it for 1 episode
Episodes with minor main trio screentime

I see your point, but the "dark" side to Aria is supposed to be the fact that as idyllic as the place is, things are going to change, people are going to leave, and so on. The third OVA of Avvenire emphasizes this quite heavily. Because the world is so perfect you don't want it to change, but it's better to be happy that something happened than sad that it will go away eventually.

Remove yourself.

I actually just finished Origination.

After Alicia announced her engagement, they showed her walking around with a bunch of different faceless old men, and not a single rich strapping young gentleman. I'm a bit worried to say the least.

Alway hated how Alicia was married off. Having her just retire would have still been just as emotional and enough reason to retire.

All of the Aria Company women aside from Grandma retired early because they wanted to get fucked and knocked up. Most likely retired because they got knocked up. Alicia was considered a beauty, so no doubt she had a tone of suitors.

>announcement of Aria's death in vol. 11
Anyone else think this is one of the main reasons why Amano ended it around here?

Amano needed to give her a reason to retire at such a young age. Or maybe Amano was self inserting, she had a kid a few years after ARIA ended.

>different faceless old men
It's not like the place had variety, to begin with.

It would be a waste if she didn't.

Weren't her cats the reason she even started making Aria?
Also she got a different job, that's enough reason to retire. Just feels unnecessary and way too sudden, could have at least be married to someone that was an established character. Or become Akira's sexslave

Akira fucks little migrant Earth slave shotas that work behind scenes at the company. She berates and punishes them, and their little dicks get hard with fear when they hear her high heels through the halls.

I think there were more moments with Alicia being more dimensional. What about when she eats alone with Alice?

This and the bus chapter in the Amanchu manga caught me off guard hard. Amano can be creepy, though I feel like most of the effect comes from seeing characters who normally live through wonderful lives thrown into those situations.

...

>Aria's death in vol. 11
What?

;_;

>Weren't her cats the reason she even started making Aria?
Going to need a source on that.
>spoiler
fyn

This doujin is a crime against humanity.

...

I regret bringing this up, I want to cry now.

Aria and Cha from Amanchu are probably based off of Amano's two other cats, she'd often post pictures of them on her twitter: twitter.com/aquaria2go

Good man.

is this real? how did hime die

Yes and I don't know. I'm just going to assume Hime died of natural causes since Amano didn't specify.
