Monthly Ballroom chapter

It's that time of the month again.
I hope everybody is ready to FUCKING READ HOLY SHIT THIS CHAPTER.

01
>You aren't experimenting, are you?
>Zero-sum game 2

>It's like you're purposefully teaching those two to be opposites of one another

>The reason you invited Fujita here...
>Now, now
>I am teaching them the dance to bring out their personalities

02
>Depending on their shape and image

>What dance makes them most beautiful
>Kugimiya-san, you're stiff! (wow, this is amazing)
>hehehe
>You're like a teddy bear
>creak creak
>Shut up
>And most loved by the audience

>...?
>Not the dance to win with..?
>You mean a dance "that the judges will enjoy"?

>Modern style?

>Hehe
>It seems young people truly are only interested in victory

>It's true that while I was still active I was focused on that
>But now that I'm a coach, my interestes have shifted slightly
>How dancing changes throughout ages and history is for the dancers to decide

03
>What I am bringing forth from them

>Is the tradition

>And evolution of dance

04

05
>From their figure to their style the two are opposites
>It's can't imagine any of the judges will deduce them being from the same coach

>Kugimiya, who uses his height as a weapon
>Prominent with his technical sway and straight*
>And has a picturesque pose and basic even laymen can appreciate
>*Straight, or swayless, state. Also called returning to the neutral position

>While on the other hand, with their shorter stature, the Fujita-pair is aiming for a movie-like performance
>Releasing sway
>Cosmetic sway
>Using their movement and pace they bring out a more three dimensional image of their form

06
>But isn't this sort of comparing
>Pointless unless done between dancers of the same caliber?

>Aah! It's been so long since I last saw Kugimiya-pair dance Truly. What a wide swing!
>And the form of their bodies! So elegant and natural...

>Shut up, you wiki-experts
>Fanatic pros...
>The dominance of Kugimiya-san can be seen by even ordinary observers

>He's tall... (after all)
>Naturally having a bigger form makes all his actions more noticeable

>But more than that, what's unique about them

>Is their balance in the neutral state

07
>A prominent straight is a beautiful thing

>Number 42 sure is stable

>Trying to compete with a mass
>That's naturally larger than your own...

>You need to increase the width of your actions

08
>By releasing the stuck tissues in the shoulders
>The shoulders become looser and the neck can stretch more
>Making the upper body more beautiful

>This is bad! My back is so loose I can't keep my hold..!

>Meanwhile
>By releasing the muscles around the hip and knees

>Has an explosive impact on the top speed

>The reactions to each sound will be perfect...
>Ah!
>Hey! Tatara, your count is all wrong!
>crumbling

09
>Bafu!
>Slam

>Or so I thought

>I failed
>At what?
>An experiment... I guess...
>(hmmm) For summer homework?

>We're trying to grow crickets
>But they are a bit cannibalistic
>That so?

>Oh!
>Welcome back!

10
>What's Masami-chan's number?
>Gaju!
>(mmm...) 42... (if I remember correctly)

>And... Fujita was 13 (What an ominous number he has)
>Who's Bujita?
>flip
>rip
>chew chew

>Hyou-
>Are these seats free?

>Next to you

>shake shake shake

>These are for Shizuku and Mako...

11
[top bubbles]
>Why is Kiyoharu sitting over here?
>I felt like it
>Whaat
>Oh! It's Kyuu-kun and Jyuugo-kun!
>You here to cheer Kugimiya-san?
>Your matching sweaters are really stylish
[bottom bubbles]
>chew chew
>Shizuku and Mako~
>Want sweets?
>chew chew
>They're fox and raccoon~!

>From where you stand, who do you think is going to win~?
>It's Kugimya-pair, right?
>Those two are great, aren't they?
>Chouno-saan~ You think those two are dating?

>Or wait... Who was the partner's name again?
>You forgot!?

>You really need to investigate a bit more (some journalist...)
>Kugimiyaa~!
>(buut) She's so ordinary
>Repeat after me, and don't forget. Her name is...

12
>Tonegawa-san
>Idogawaa~

>Sorry sorry! I completely forgot
>hahaha

>clap clap clap

13
>gulp

>turn
>Hyoudou-kun!

>What's Fujita glaring at?

>Second event: Tango

14
>Masami-chaaan!!

15
>Do you two like Kugimiya-san's dancing?

>I like it because it's Masami-chan
>Right
>So calm~

>At their age they look up to "Masami-chan" and not the world champion or something?
>But, y'know
>He really hates cheering
>"What you looking at" and stuff like that

>I wonder if it's because of these pure kids here, but

>His movement seems much larger than normal

16
>The feel I get from watching them...
>Is that standard sure is suited towards tall people
>Oh, that..? (yeah) That's the way it is

>How is it, Gaju? Is there a silent understanding? ("Tall to standard, short to latin" or similar)
>Huh?
>(I think...) Each dancer has their own likes and they go by that

>But the event they like and win in don't necessarily match.
>Gaju-kun, even you must have "likes" and "specialities," right?
>Aaah... (yeah)

>Well, in my case
>As I'm aiming for the Ten Dance, like Sengoku-san, I don't have anything like that!
>flash
>But, didn't you just in a recent interview say that you liked upbeat events?
>Like Samba, Quick or Cha-cha-cha?

>Mako-chan, what event do you like?
>What I "like" and "specialize" are a bit different...

>Me too
>Each event has their own character attached to it

17
>As in standard, the feel of clean grace and prominent form is sought after, it attracts many tall, lean dancers to it
>And because Latin needs flexibility, power, and sex-appeal, while also allowing more freeform couple structures, it attracts people with smaller bodies more

>From what I feel, even if two people had the same body-type, the one dancing standard would feel like a elegant model while the latin dancer would be a gorgeous swim-suit model
>...?
>You still speaking about dance?
>You aren't pointing those perverted eyes at any partners, are you?

>(u-umm..) About personality
>Don't you feel latin has more cat-people while standard has more dog people?
>Come at meow
>roll~
>giggle
>What a strange thought! (But aren't you more a dog person..?)
>And so in this competition, Kugumiya-san is a borzoi and Tatara-san is a pomeranian

>(pome...)
>Elongated Kugimiya-san and grainy Fujita... huh..?

18
>If we were to think of events they specialize
>Swaying Waltz and Foxtrot, Kugimiya-pair
>Intricate Tango and Quick, Fujita-pair

>Or so I'd like to say

19
>Sloppy straddle!
>Sorry...

>I need to support!

>Hiyama is giving her all

>But, in tango, when you're supposed to stop, you need to stop
>gasp

>spin spin

20
>From what I see
>Kugimiya is a new frontier
>Hm? [Okay, the original lines from this reporter guy just happened to be a haiku with 5-7-5 syllables, but fuck trying to replicate that in English. Gaju is noting that by "thinking" five-seven-five]
>Your basis?

>Listen, from what I researched, until now, Kugimiya-pair had no real impact in tango

>Every picture of them in tournaments was from their Waltz or Foxtrot
>It's pretty obvious when you think about it.
>That form and elegance leaves an impression

>yeah
>That's true, alright

>The expression and power necessary for tango,

>I thought
>Kugimiya-san didn't have it

21
>Look. There's our photographer

>But today...

22
>A standard, trained step routine

>There's not a single wasted movement

>It's like the example of a teacher

23
>The tension of tango
>sway...

>Noble

>Very fitting to this song by Piazzolla [I imagine the song here is Libertango by Piazzolla youtube.com/watch?v=vaXNdVTGT0k A true classic]

>snap snap

>tap

>Stillness

>Movement

24

25
>gulp

>Next, the third event

26
>Viennese Waltz

27
>Oh, they have VW in this competition as well?
>That reminds me, Tatara-san-

28
>Didn't practice it at all

>"Remember to train for other events than tango! (Balance is the key)"

>Yes, yes, this tempo
>Zun-cha-cha Zun-cha-cha
>This is the true waltz to me! (Such elegance)

>Aye! Before I got into competitive dancing, this is what I thought ballroom dancing was! (The things you see in movies)

>Viennese Waltz is a fast paced 3-beat dance danced usually in rotating circles
>It's history is long, originating from the year 1814 Vienna dinner parties where it quickly spread all across Europa, becoming the most popular ballroom dance of its time

29
>The waltz danced today as an event
>Is known as "slow waltz" or the English waltz
>That was developed as a competitive sport from a version of Boston waltz (tempo is exactly doubled between the two)
>Even I hate it
>Chouno-san, knows a lot!

>Well, it's not like I've practised Viennese either
>Right... It's basically covered as an extention of normal waltz...
>*Waltz was first danced as a competitive sport in the 1920 1st Blackpool festival
>The amount of figures is incredibly small compared to other events
>Only natural turn (right spin)* and reverse turn (left spin)* and the steps reversing the direction are allowed *Very basic waltz dance figures

>What's left is only spinning clock- or counterclockwise
>sleepy
>It's so easy I hate it (and I get sleepy watching it)
>To maintain its history, no variations have been allowed to form

>More than spinning, it's "alternating advancement"

30
>As the leader step forward
>It gives room for others
>Reverse Turn (two steps)

>It's heartless in its simplicity [Another trick of Japanese language, heartless when written without kanji, as is here, can also mean amazing]

>Natural turn – Natural turn -

>Just the width of one step

31
>And when the partner advances
>It all repeats

>In an attempt to overtake your surroundings

32
>spin spin

>Fleak*
>*Natural Fleak

>German word meaning "this spot" or "small thing". A spin performed by the pair by exchanging steps without moving. Done by the pair at the very center of the circle

>If looked from above
>You'd see only them

33
>What a wide hold

34
>Viennese is the basic of basics

>Until now, I wonder what it was I saw in the Kugimiya-pair (I've been judging them based on their image)
>The origin of beauty in standard dancing

>The dance Kugimiya-pair is aiming for is pure old style

>That reminds me, before Hyoudou took them in, their teacher was a very classical teacher

>I hope their injury is feeling okay

>If so, I am truly happy
>clap clap clap

35
>For seeing them return here

36
>Returning alone is worthy of admiration

>clap clap

>Ever since I was a child, they had caught my eye

>With how beautiful dancers they were

37
>Those two... Are really pissing me off

>What's with Tatara-kun's leading..?
>When he has such a good example in Chinatsu

>My teacher explained leading as "opening a way, giving room to the partner"

>"Akin to opening a door for them"

38
>Chinatsu isn't like that

>That's right
>Chinatsu is the one who opens the door

>What awaits beyond the door!?

39
>Holy shit I can't even read text that small. You can find info about this page elsewhere already
>Shinba's comment on Tatara: Manga is powerful and I can feel Tatara's pains and stuff
>Nobuhiko's comment on Kiyoharu: I'm the voice actor for Kiyoharu
>Ayane's comment on Shizuku: "I make run-on sentences. I have the most text but the least amount of periods, despite being the only woman"
>Toshiyuki's comment on Sengoku: I feel the heat of latin in me

And that's it for this month. The actual chapter release is probably going to take a while with how packed the chapter was but at least there will be a sneak-peak in the archives for anybody looking for it.

Thanks Dancefag.

thanks

Been waiting for this. Thanks

>Those face

Author is propping up the Kugimiya's pair way too much. We know it won't amount to much in the end.

thanks for the translation. I hope the anime turns out well

Who's that guy in the first panel?

Nevermind

Is that supposed to be Mako?!

Fuck, i really dig the art

Thanks for the TL.

I wonder if they deliver the animation for the dance with the anime

>they deliver
they will*

So far, they tried to not show it in the trailer.

Will Tatara get emasculated by Chinatsu taking the lead next chapter?

The cliffanger say otherwise in my oppinion. She will let him lead without getting on the way.

I can't say I like this chapter as much as I'd've wanted, since I don't care about the technicalities of dance that much, but I do enjoy this build up to what I hope is coming.

I'm really excited for the next chapter. Thanks as usual Dancefag.

Thanks a lot, man.

Problem is, Chinatsu got pretty pissed off during the last heat. With her obstinate streak and inability to trust his lead, I don't really see her let go and let Tatara take control, after his wonky performance just now. I feel Tatara will still have to make some gesture that'll allow her to trust him. Maybe after getting used to the loosened muscles Tatara will turn into four legged Dogtara again.

Thanks for the translation, as always.

Fuck me, that Gaju. I feel things I shouldn't...

...

...

...

Did Mako get some extra meat on her?

...

...

My ears are going to be annoyed with the shitty grating shit we got in the anime

...

...

Yeah, manager-san looks like Shizuku's younger autistic sister.

thanks breh

thanks

Thanks for the TL.

omfg it's back????? AND with an anime?

You know you have to be over 18 to post here.

are u an imbecile?

Is there really enough material for an anime.

oi m8. thanks. favorite time of the month

More than enough. If the studio decides to adapt the manga in only 12 episodes, then at least the anime will end until Tenpei Cup. But if it lasts for 24 episodes then I can really see it going ending right before the start of Metropolitan Tournament
