If you are genuinely serious, you would want to take a shot a Thomism. The Summa is obviously the best source, but it's not an easy read especially if you have no formal education in philosophy or metaphysics. Fr. As much as I love the film, it has its faults, and this is one of the more egregious of them. Capra takes things too far when trying to show how off-track this George-less alt universe would be, because while we can believe that some things would come true (Uncle Billy being in an asylum, Mr. Gower killing the kid, etc), no way do I believe that a stunning woman like Mary would wind up a mousy spinster just because she never met George. It would have been more believable (and effective) if we'd seen Mary married to Sam Wainwright or some other guy, but looking unhappy in her marriage.
At times, Capra just didn't know when to dial it back ("Shall I pray for him?" always makes me cringe). But he was a product of his era, I guess, and filmmakers hadn't yet learned to appreciate subtlety. Or maybe they knew their unsophisticated audiences couldn't appreciate it, anyway.
