Can someone (without memeing) explaing what the fuck is going on in this show?

I watched it like 10 years ago and rewatched it recently and i still have no fucking idea what the fuck was going on.

Anyone?

A young boy who acts mature meets an older woman who acts very immature. She tries to make him more manly only for them both to find out he's not as old as he acts and there are some things he's just not ready for.

>older woman

but shes like 18?

How does that not make her older than him

She's also an alien from outer space, so who's to say what 18 years ood to her means in human terms.

what the fuck reddit

im not gonna read that text wall lol

It's really simple.

In literal terms:
>A space pirate shows up on earth attempting to free her love, the space pirate Atmosk, from imprisonment. She does this by creating a portal via MC's head. She eventually succeeds, and takes off.

Thematically:
>A kid on the edge of puberty learns that adults are liars, and love is not simple.

why is Atmosk a bird?

It's a coming of age story. It's full of visual puns and wordplay, half of which is about puberty.

No-one cared who he was until he swung the bat

Is Haruka also a birdlike alien but she only looks like a human girl because she landed on earth and made herself look like that?
Is that possible?

It's literally just about puberty and coming of age. Don't let the space stuff distract you, that's just window dressing.

It's about adolescence.

Maybe she's just really into giant birds.

You don't have to worry about the specifics so much. How you can even watch the show and think small details like that apply here is kinda astounding, user.

>Maybe she's just really into giant birds.

Doujin where?

TV makes you stupid. That's literally what it is about.

Atomsk is obviously a shapeshifter. Damn look at that manly back.

Here's one interpretation, its consistent with what the Tsurumaki had to say about FLCL in interviews. Watch it again after reading this.

...

>Mamimi and Naota drift apart once he shows some independence

Yeah that's one of the most important parts of the show, power in relationships. How much of it is about the power? Haruko seems to be in love with Atomsk, but really she just wants his power

Tell me if im wrong, but i got the vibe that Naota like Haruko but at the end she still just leaves him for her boyfriend and he was always just a little kid in her eyes. Any type of actual feelings was just in his head because of his immaturity and her teasing, no? It fits within the themes of the series. Like an older women teasing a younger man and then her laughing "oh you thought i was serious?"

>Haruko seems to be in love with Atomsk, but really she just wants his power
Correct.

Basically yeah. She represents the world of (young) adults, something that Naota is barely just getting any glimpse of. Haruko has her own shit going on and honestly only uses Naota for the most part.

I think she cared about him but she still loves her life and her BF more. So she just leaves, its an ending that kind of shows Naota life isnt all sweetness and that his dumb cynicism isnt the answer for it. At the end he is forming a friendship with Ninamori, but is a deeper frinedhsip rather than one based on his delusions with Haruko.

This is a great show, a quintessential coming of age story, i hope the planned sequel lives up to the original.

The bit where Haruko reacts to Naota telling her he loves her is important. Is she flushed because she's embarrassed about a kid crushing on her or does she have feelings? Probably a mix between the two. She likes him enough to leave him and let him be a kid

Its a complex show, it manages to build a shitload on a mere 6 episodes. More than most shows fail to do in even two seasons.

It's structurally very odd as well and somehow it works in its favour. Episode 4 is very moody and cool and then suddenly there's episode 5 which is wacky cartoon nonsense. Then ep 6 hits you out of left field by being romantic as fuck

It's sad how such an awesome show was mastered in 480p.

She actually develops feelings for the kid (which surprises even herself) but she realizes that he still has some growing up to do. Leaving him behind was actually an act of love, she didn't want to keep using him and stringing him along like Mamimi did to him.

No she says she's 19 but Naota suspects she's older. Early to mid 20s probably

Shes probably a 2000 year old alien that took a human girl shape.

I can't wait to see the fuck up the new season.

*them

She had with Amarao the same relationship she has with Naota, so she's probably ageless.
That's how Amarao imagines Atomsk to be like because of his own insecurities, not what he actually looks like.

It's layers and layers of symbolism, about growing up and maturing.

If you look at all the crazy shit that goes on, and think of it in terms of the perspective of a boy growing into a man, it starts to make sense.

After Mamimi, Amarao is surely the best character. His introduction is one of the greatest scenes in anything ever
>An older woman... that's a big mistake

that faggot wrote a book on how he felt about an anime just for 10 people to read it lmao he must feel stupid as fuck

So, is the manga worth a shot?

I think it's great. It takes all the elements of the anime and reconstitutes it in a pretty radical way. It's also borderline incomprehensible but hey ho

Just watch it again.

It's dumb deep, watch it again, everytime you watch it you learn something new.

It's 2deep4everyone.
