Donald Trump is publicly considering firing special counsel Robert Mueller, the person leading the Department of Justice investigation of possible illegal actions by Donald Trump and members of his presidential campaign, and the efforts to conceal those activities.
This would be a constitutional crisis for our country. It would demand an immediate and unequivocal response to show that we will not tolerate abuse of power from Donald Trump.

I know, but there is enough of a hub bub in the media that congress Dems will keep it going for political street creds as long as possible as well. It also serves Trump to keep it going because the longer it runs the more credibility it gives his supporters (ie: Bannon and Jones), who will grow in influence and get him more votes in 2020. When it comes to voting and elections it's a zero sum game. If a voter, because of the political optics of the Mueller investigation, chooses to vote dem instead of GOP then that is a loss in absolute terms. There's really no way for this situation to be good all around.
For the democrats the investigation gives the optics of an enormous scandal brewing in the white house and it fires up their base in support of whatever candidate they put up in 2018 and 2020. If the Mueller investigation dies with nothing being shown it could backfire and lose the democrats support moving into these pivotal years.
Of course the entire time the trump base is fired up because of "fake news" and "witch hunts" targeting their candidate.
If the Mueller investigation can keep drip feeding out suspicious information (ie: manafort indictment and things like that) then we may see the dems sweep contested races in 2018 and the presidency in 2020. The only reason the dems lost 2016 is because of voter turnout. Of course if the investigation fizzles out then we may see them become even more disenchanted than they were with Hillary leading to continued GOP for in house, senate and presidency.
