The anime Renaissance has come and gone without so much as a shitpost to show for it. Joshiraku was a modern attempt at recreating the golden years of anime from the late 1980s to the early 1990s. The raw intelligence required of the viewer to efficiently parse the cultural and societal phenomenon is unparalleled in any other form of media. Lucky Star was a close second to Joshiraku but it lacked the zest to really exhibit any sort of staying power. Much like Aya Hirano's career which ended with Haruhi and was sadly reanimated for Parasyte, Joshiraku's lack of viewerbase is largely representative of the "modern anime viewer"; this is demonstrated by their inability to grasp basic social cues and other directing anomalies. The fansubbing community has done a dishonor to this show by leaving it to the clutches of [gg], which by some terrible stroke of luck, have managed to improve the series with localized meme subs. As a result, you have a bunch of armchaired weeaboos, both mentally and physically crippled, who don't know the first thing about Japan talking as if they are the authority on the subject. These are the people you share this board with, the very same people you have intellectual discussion with about the anime industry with every day are parading around as if they're Ken-sama. Mescaline ain't shit, I'm going to work. I'm getting paid to get high. I don't know what the fuck I'm doing but I'm glad I lied on my resume.

toasting in epic bread

reads like a pasta but the mention of parasyte means it's at least somewhat recent

This is not a pasta, these are my genuine thoughts. Check the archives and see if you can find anything close to this.

SZS > Joshiraku

>anime Renaissance
Who's the Michelangelo of anime?

Tezuka.

Anno is the van Gogh of anime but instead of being appreciated after his death, he's being appreciated after the death of his remaining brain cells, the last of which he used in a last hurrah with Shin Godzilla. Makoto Shinkai is moving his way up into the big leagues and Miyazaki might as well bite the dust any minute now, he's not going to be appreciated now or then once you get past your childlike Ghibli fascination.

>I don't know what the fuck I'm doing but I'm glad I lied on my resume.
Genuinely laughed out loud.

Didn't read, post Marii's ass!

>Makoto Shinkai is moving his way up into the big leagues
Shinkai hasn't created anything that will be considered a masterpiece in 10 years time though. Not to mention he lacks range, and stays comfortably in his romance/drama driven bubble.

Am I witnessing the birth of a new copypasta?

He's moving up in the sense that Kimi no na wa. will give him the opportunities to flesh out his portfolio. It taking the box office by storm and completely stomping everything else has given Shinkai status which, if used effectively, will allow him to move towards newer ideas. Knowing him, it'll end up twisted into a romance/drama plot nonetheless but if he has any sense, he'll break new ground. Trampling his favorite director's records underfoot were likely a fluke but one he needed.

...

Nah, it has to be good to stick.

What did they mean by this?

No, as the OP I can tell you right now Sup Forums doesn't care enough about Joshiraku to post this continuously. Maybe some idiot will now that I've posted this but if you think this is copypaste just quite yet, you are mistaken.

I know this is by the author of SZS. Is it similar or is it more moe-oriented like a SoL?

It's a parody of those kind of shows.
It tells you that it's full of boring dialogue so you can concentrate on how cute the girls are, then goes on to make references to weird shit that happened decades ago that even people in Japan forgot about, and Kumeta's own brand of anti-Korea right-wing nationalism.

What Joshiraku would you ku?

I would go:
Mari > Kukuru > Kigu > Tetora
I wouldnt even touch that filthy megane bitch.

>take mescaline
>shitpost furtively
>get banned
>keep shitposting
>get banned
>STILL keep shitposting
>get rangebanned
>drive 100km westbound to use a public library to shitpost because I'm too high to use a VPN

Is this the appropriate procedure?

What is mescaline?

>Is this the appropriate procedure?
Tried and true.

This sort of thing gets me wondering. What lengths have people gone to to post on Sup Forums? SHITpost even?

What goths (ugly people) use to stink themselves up.

Can you give a non-meme description?

I confused it with Mascara. Look it up on mother fucking wikipedia.

How do you even mistake those two?

a drug

>I confused it with Mascara.

This should not have inspired me to download and watch Joshiraku but it did

Watch it right now and post results please user.

GIVE BACK OUR LAND!
GIVE BACK OUR PEOPLE!
GIVE BACK OUR TECHNOLOGY!

Enjoy your [gg] subs.

Reminder

T-two what?

Two bombs.

They weren't enough.

>not wanting popular references

By the time gg finished subbing the series, these references were already dated.

But we loved Joshiraku when it was airing OP. Were you even here? The only thing that sucked about it was [gg].

Rephrase that, Sup Forums loved Joshiraku when it was SUBBED. The OP is talking exactly about the kind of people that watched it raw on Sup Forums.

...

>farfie is better than ggsubs

Said nobody ever.

We've literally had 3 Joshiraku threads over the last 3 days. It's popular enough.

Link to archive posts?

I thought Farfie was literally just gg subs slapped onto the BDs + a worse font?

If you need subtitles, Joshiraku isn't for you.

If you don't need subtitles but still pretend to understand every reference they mention which even Japanese people forgot about, you're bullshitting.

>[gg] asspain right in the op
>after all those years

They got you gud.

It's not difficult to search the archive. But yeah, four Joshiraku threads since the 11th, one broadly Kumeta thread and at least two SZS threads.

I'm not saying that getting one thread per day is normal but Joshiraku gets talked about a lot for a 5 year old show that wasn't one of the major shows of that season anyway and that had plenty of problems with subs.

But it says it gg improved the show.

Interestingly, Joshiraku aired in the same season that Jinrui did, which also has a similar cult following. Fun season.

>Fun season.
It really was. I'll always think back on it fondly.

This is an exception rather than the rule. Joshiraku threads are far less common than SZS threads on an annual basis.

They also have subtitle timing issue. The type setting is off by a frame.

And they should be, there's a lot less to talk about in both manga and anime form but it still has a reasonably large following for when it aired and what it was.

...

It doesn't have a reasonably large following for when it aired nor does it for the content it has. It's severely underrated by actual viewers familiar with the references and overrated by those who think they "get" it.

Get on my level. I understood every reference in Nichijou.

For example, the sandbox scene in Episode 3 is a reference to the foreword of L'Écume des jours in which Boris Vian writes that the only two real things in the world are the love of pretty girls and the music of New Orleans.

youtube.com/watch?v=b7dmM-QMkmg
This is actually good

The number of people who claim to understand every reference is tiny. Not even the guy who subbed it got every single one and plenty of actual Japanese wouldn't either. The vast majority of people who like the show are in the middle and understand a decent number of the main jokes and references, miss plenty of others and ultimately just enjoy the ordinary dialog that lets them fully focus on the cuteness of the girls.

How do I be like you, user?
I want to understand all references

Here's a wiki link explaining all the jokes in episode one, in Japanese.
wiki.kumetan.net/index.php?第一席『普段問答/ふく違い/叫び指南』
All of which is to say that nobody gets Joshiraku, except Kumeta himself.

Nichijou and especially KyoAni references aren't hard. Good on you for graduating high school English but you shouldn't let it get to your head.

How autistic are you?
I like to listen to anime MADs
youtube.com/watch?v=lMEmLIr5BVg

Some references and jokes are obscure or complex and others are simple as fuck. It's not all or nothing and I understood more than enough of them to nicely supplement my enjoyment of the cute girls.

Mescaline is a hell of a drug.

Exactly, I don't pretend to get it all, but what I did was more than enough.

that's actually pretty standard weeb shit. not particularly autistic.

That's fine if you don't claim to know more than you do. Back when Joshiraku was airing, you had idiots in the threads trying to explain jokes they didn't even understand themselves. For people that understand Japanese society and their history, it's actually really pathetic to read.

I like how well this was made, there's loads of Mayim Mayim mixes, and they all seem amateurish compared to that one. At least the ones I've seen.
youtube.com/watch?v=N6k7BHZsdXI

What? Keiichi Arawi inserted a ridiculous amount of stuff that only he would understand, and he was involved in writing every script according to Ishidate.

There's a line in episode 2 that sounds mispronounced in Japanese, but becomes a pun if you translate it into Malay. Which could be written off as a coincidence, except Yukko says good morning in Malay in the first episode.

>only he would understand
Listen, pal. Just because you're an uncultured EOP with no experience with what Arawi wrote besides what you jammed into Google Translate from a 2chan post, the same doesn't go for everyone else. Nichijou is low culture.

Why are you this mad?

If I was mad, I wouldn't be pushing for people to better understand Joshiraku. It is an outrage that people missed out on this show. It's like watching Pani Poni Dash and thinking you understand what it's about at face value.

>there's an entire wiki in Japanese devouted to Kumeta's works because they are so dense with autistic references and bad jokes nobody understands
>somehow silly gaijin can't enjoy Joshiraku more than a Jap would

ok

Japan gets off on referential humor. This shit was wildly popular back in the day when they could get away with blatantly referencing other anime in their series. They still like to stroke their ego since it's bigger than their microdicks by understanding obscure references no one else would care about when enjoying a show.

You can understand a show at face value without understanding every joke and reference, to say otherwise is ridiculous.

...

Dokdo

Look, I don't mean to trash Joshiraku, I really don't. But objectively, it's a shit anime. Any series telling you the dialogue is tertiary and to enjoy the cute girls only instead knows that it has no value. Worse yet because they only delivered on the girls being cute HALF the time, whether it was how they were dressed or acted. You know why there were so many references? It's because there's nothing there, no vested interest in portraying these girls in multiple settings with a driven purpose so instead they slap as many references as they can into the episode and call it a day. To say Lucky Star is secondary to Joshiraku only proves one thing and it's that you've never watched Lucky Star or watched it when you were still an anime babby.

Lucky Star isn't really that good, irrespective of how good or bad Joshiraku is. It's the nostalgia talking.

It's not irrespective of Joshiraku since that's what the entire OP post is about.

>Joshiraku's lack of viewerbase

kek nigga, it was popular by nyaa standards

You must be some newfag. The original work is a satire work with nearly all dialogue to reflect the inconsistencies and odd logic in Japanese society and some even beyond that similar to the mangaka's previous work Sayonara Zetsuba Sensei. You seem to miss all the satire in it somehow maybe due to being a shut in who has no relatable experience with society, or be a dumbass, or something and instead focused on the the pretty kawaii desu girls and took the show at face value.

>garbage from current season VS downloads of a show from five years ago with a constantly increasing download count
Wow, what a great graph.

These are the kind of armchair weeaboos I'm talking about.

>enjoyment of the cute girls

Which was literally stated as the whole goal of the show, so I think we did it right.

This thread is full of terrible posts so that when someone posts a picture of the girls you can enjoy their cuteness all the more.

Can't decide if show is a satire with cute girls, or a show about cute girls with satire.

Any of them.
Except maybe Kukuru.

Sacrilege.

shit taste

The catching up is a lie. The episode downloads don't change much after two weeks.

They do, especially since that second half is counting the original + batch.

i only know this anime as the source of that gif of cute girls doing a silly dance.
