I blame that one Japanese zoo for teaching its shoebill to bow and shake its head to people. Aside from that it's really moe because of how it acts toward the zookeepers. It looks like a weird Muppet and makes M-16 sounds when it clatters its beak. Shoebills are understandably one of the more interesting animals at zoos. I'm pretty sure they aren't actually very intelligent though.
