Devilman is pretty short, so there's actually a lot of room for creativity. This is why there are so many manga spinoffs of it out there.
Only people are asking is to not fuck up the events of the final volume. He can play around with the details, and even create his new arcs if he wants. For example, we didn't spend a lot of time with Sachiko, so Yasua can introduce actual character development for her.
