You're probably not consuming everything Japan has to offer. You'd probably be burned out like that if you watched western media for a long time, too.

Try getting into novels, light novels, or perhaps VNs.

It's both. You'll reach the point where you had watched all the good shit and there isn't enough from the new seasons that are worth praising. And by that point, you probably watched enough for you to know what you like and dislike, what's good writing and direction and what isn't. At this point, you'll have to wait patiently for a critical hit. This is why you have more than one hobby.

Try changing it up, there is lots of translated manga. VNs and LNs, not so much, video games too.

It's more a matter of you having shit taste.

Anime's starting to stagnate again. There's some shining stars every year, but mostly, it's business men making the call on what the "safe" decision is for a plot and it means more of the same, and nothing too risky.

It's not that it's boring, it's that the same theme or general plot has been used.

What we need is something to shake it up like a new EVA type thing that goes big in sales.

I think that it gets a little harder to enjoy anime once you have seen a lot. Like the original enjoyment is gone once you have seen around 500+ titles, so something that is actually "good" doesn't seem to pop up as often

I had some of those problems in the first few years of watching anime, but for about a year now I have been able to watch more and enjoy more each season.

Yeah I think the novelty plays a big part in enjoying shitty anime. When you're new to the medium the cute characters are very enticing and things like blatant wish fulfillment or ecchi scenes are exciting just because you've never seen anything like that before. But after you've seen a lot they start to blend into each other and then you go back and rewatch something you enjoyed only to discover it wasn't that great in the first place.

Tbh you shouldn't go hunting for good shit to watch all the time, that way your expectation goes to high. Only watch anime when you are bored as fuck. When you are bored as fuck you will watch anything.

I do mangos instead of animu but some newer ones are still pretty interesting to me

Anime is a medium defined entirely by it's cliches. The thing about cliches, is that once you know them every show starts to play out the exact same way as every other show with the same cliche and there's no point in watching it. This is why most people hate cliche, and way modern anime is crap because it tries to subvert it's own cliches far less than older anime did. Not that older anime weren't cliched. Just slightly less.
