I went through a real heavy Zappa phase about 10 years ago til only a couple years ago and that stopped sort of because I've listened to most of his stuff (there's still 1000's of hours of unedited tape, enough to release at least one album a year for probably the next 50 years). Anyway the thing I picked up from him is that nothing can be judged independently because everything is connected to everything. Saying something is "right" or "wrong" is dependent of the circumstance/time/place etc. in which it takes place. I don't agree with him on everything but he was a great influence in my late teens when I could still get obsessed over shit. Plus he's funny. The album that really got me hooked was We're Only In It For The Money. The whole album sticks it to the hippy "love everyone" types, the housewife normies and the puritan self-righteous types.
It sort of payed me out the whole way through because I'm a mixture of all that and I (as well as everyone else) deserves to be judged.

Joe's Garage is still my favourite album because of the layered concepts. It's also an autobiography up until that point but with his twisted spin included. All that shit really did happen to him (minus the poetic licence). Apostrophe, Over-Nite Sensation, One Size Fits All and a sort of live album The Dub Room Special are great pieces of work, I'd suggest checking them out.
Dub Room Special is one of his movies too. 200 Motels and Baby Snakes are good movies by him too.
This vid is imo the best line up he had, they weren't his best musicians but they worked so well together.

The list of decent albums is huge, as soon as I posted I couldn't believe I didn't say Hot Rats neither. I had the remastered version ('87 I think) and a couple years ago got a new pc and downloaded the original. Pretty unreal how much it was altered, the newer remastered version is much better imo.
