example of this is when he asked not to be resurrected after he had died since him being there endangered everyone. or when he decided to hand the torch down to his children instead of defeating the baddie himself because he knew he wouldn't always be around

now he does whatever the fuck he pleases without regard for life if he gets a good fight out of it

well technically he saved a universe. zeno was going to destroy the weakest 8 universes anyway because he thinks that there are too many. and the tournament is a chance for one of those 8 universes to survive.
so they were fucked either way but goku's request gave them at least a chance

He's much closer to the original characterization Toriyama wanted. And honestly I enjoy it much more. I'd rather have a power hungry savage in the usual "superman" role. It's more interesting than a bland symbol for morality.

Edge isn't inherently interesting. And Super Goku isn't even well done edge. Zero consequences and none of his friends even call him out on his BS.

With Goku it's not even so much adding flaws to make him more complex. It's taking away everything else so that he only cares about fighting, with the result being that he is actually more simplistic and "bland." In comparison a Superman type with blood-knight tendencies would actually be more original; characters who enjoy combat are usually villains. After seeing Bardock and Gine, Super Goku doesn't even have a reason for being the way he is. Vegeta is more human than guy who grew up on Earth.
