>considerthefollowing.jpg For all Sup Forums complains about the "isekai boom", it's probably fair to say that the majority of isekai anime up to this point have been adaptations of at least the upper tier of stories of their kind. For example, Zero no Tsukaima, Log Horizon, NGNL, Grimgar, Overlord, Konosuba, Re:Zero, Youjo Senki. All of these so far have at least had something to make them stand out from the crowd.
Is this about to change, though? With the progressive announcements of Death March, Knights and Magic, and now Isekai Smartphone, we are beginning to see the industry slip more and more towards the kind of shameless 俺TUEEEEEEEEE generic narou-type portal fantasies that are so derided by Sup Forums, as the industry continues to follow the money. And as much as Japanese otaku deride the genre online, they are certainly voting for it with their wallets.
So is this the future of anime? To slide away from the innovative in favor of the lowest common denominator?
Josiah Morales
How pretentious did you feel while writing this?
Gabriel Hughes
>anime >innovative Sure. Also, SoL isekai is better anyway.
Elijah Murphy
Evangelion was innovative for its time.
Hunter Robinson
Stop living in the past.
Justin Baker
Ok, Sword Art Online was innovative for its time.
Luke Sanders
nigga WHERE'S MY MUKOSHU TENSEI ANIME I WANNA SEE ORSTED KICKING SOME GOD ASS
Benjamin Howard
Unless the anime is like 5 seasons long, the only ass Orsted will be kicking is a ten year old Rudeus.
Connor Jones
Stop being newfag. This isekai series just variation from battle harem sub genre. Battle harem already mainstream they're coming is not something new.
Robert Gonzalez
There are isekai series which are not battle harems though. For example, Youjo Senki.
Logan Perez
Hopefully that trash never gets an anime.
Gabriel Rogers
Fuck you
Dylan Thompson
It's all Mushoku Tensei's fault that the genre has gone to shit.
Tyler Allen
Elaborate.
Jonathan Diaz
...
Cooper Lewis
Mushoku Tensei, being at the top of the charts on narou and having stayed there for so long, is directly and inspiration or rather, a subject of copycatting by amateur writers who have not the patience nor the capability to write their own worlds and do proper worldbuilding.
Lucas Hernandez
You have a point, but that's just sidestepping the bigger issue of the general lack of good writers in the genre.
Adrian Edwards
That sort of spiraling shit-fest would have happened anyways. Shitty web-novel writers were going to steal from each other until the whole genre became a monolith, no matter what, exactly BECAUSE it was a story on a web novel site.
This doesn't change the fact that there are still pretty interesting isekai stories around.
William Hall
why nips don't steal from the C S lewis, he knew how to make decent isekai
Alexander Wright
You're kidding me, Alice in Wonderland is possibly one of the most homaged Western works of fiction in anime.
Jaxon Collins
But are there any drug trip japanese isekai with cute girl MCs?
Hudson Mitchell
>Alice in Wonderland nigga that was the mathfag. C.S lewis did narnia
Owen Fisher
It works for Hollywood and nostalgia movies
Sebastian James
Flip Flappers
Ryan Gomez
Whoops, my bad.
Lincoln Brooks
...
Daniel Miller
It's only worked for Disney. All the other nostalgia reboots and remakes (Terminator, RoboCop, etc.) have been flops.
Owen Perry
I dont see how this can be more generic than another battle harem or CGDCT show
Tyler Mitchell
The fact that there are tens of thousands of near identical stories on the internet
Aaron Jenkins
It appeals to the kind of audience you usually don't want around in the board, even through they already are here. Its the cinders of the elitism culture moot tried so hard to kill.
Lincoln Howard
>Zero no Tsukaima shit >Log Horizon Mediocre >Grimgar dunno >Overlord dunno >Konosuba decent for a few chuckles but overrated >Re:Zero overrated >Youjo Senki meme
Leo Sanders
konosuba barely got out there besides Sup Forums it ain't overrrated, no re zero i'll give you that
Dominic Thompson
I wouldn't call it overrated but it *is* very popular, including off Sup Forums
Justin Parker
So what you mean to say, is that it is a gateway anime of the worst kind.
William Perry
>NGNL shit
Dylan Flores
its the new gateway genre yes, isekai and jojo are the big hitters with people outside of the chan, so much in fact jojofags from Sup Forums have to make stealth threads to avoid shitposting
Xavier Ramirez
I recently finished that, thought it was pretty good. Just tell me this who the fuck is "Bloody Count" in the end?
Hudson Stewart
Don't think the count got explained in the translated stuff i've read so far in the redundancy chapters.
You can find some mad spoilers on the archive if you want through, or start a thread and see what happens.
Mason Gray
Yea I've read all the translated chapters but nothing comes to mind, except that it might've been Orsted all along! Or some sort of twist like that though unlikely.
Leo Bailey
Well he's gotta be at least elf or demon race, to be around after rudy's death.
Zachary Brooks
>And as much as Japanese otaku deride the genre online, they are certainly voting for it with their wallets. It's almost as if Japan isn't one person. They have people who think just like Sup Forums and then people who think just like reddit and normalfags.
Jackson Adams
It was amusing when I saw him in the references with all the other books like >Norn Greyrat’s book 『The Adventures of Supard Race』, Zanoba’s Doll Company - K427
And then suddenly >Bloody Count’s book 『Great Men of the World - Heroes』, K480. Might also be some foreshadowing for a future event
Nathaniel Stewart
Wasn't it Elinalise?
Lincoln Russell
Maybe, but there's nothing really to prove it. Literally everyone with a longer lifespan than Rudeus could be.
Leo James
Am I crazy or did the twin's hair color change in the newest release?
Connor Gray
For comparison
Luis Reed
iirc the hint was that of the only five books in the house, Bloody Count's "Walking the World" was one of them.
>Ah yes, [Walking the World] by Adventurer Bloody Count. >It's an amazing name, I wonder what kind of person would have that kind of name. >While traveling, I never heard of an adventurer by that name. >He might be from a considerably long time ago. >I wonder why Paul had such a book. >Well it's fine.
Asher Torres
Not really, although it does look more bluish here
Gabriel Young
There is nothing wrong with pandering to the lowest common denominator. It makes BD sell like hotcakes for one.
Bentley Peterson
>It makes BD sell like hotcakes I hope Death March flops horribly.
Oliver Bailey
>upper tier >still shit
Shit genre desu
Ryan Perez
Isekai is guilty pleasure with its wish-fulfillment nature. I like it.
Alexander Rodriguez
Isekai harems are the new high school harems.
Thomas Mitchell
Now there's a title that most probably won't be flopping. Knights and Magic might but who knows.
Christopher Morales
>俺TUEEEEEEEEEE In English please?
Justin Richardson
Not all isekai is wish fulfillment.
Hunter Wood
Why do you think people cling to isekai so much? Because they want to get away from the typical anime and manga cliches and want somethig different. Some isekai do fullfill that wish but sadly narou is filled with isekai cliches that it itself created.
Hudson Morgan
>Because they want to get away from the typical anime and manga cliches and want somethig different. But the cliches are all the same, just in a different setting.
Jason Lee
What is .hack
Luis Hill
>Log Horizon >isekai no
First, work on your English, and second, by no means does isekai imply battle harem.
Wyatt Edwards
The second most popular work in a media is the one that does everything with originality. The first most popular work in a media is the one that creates a template for #3 and below to follow.
Real originality only gets you second place because it can't be copied, and thus won't spawn offshoots that feed back into the popularity of the original.
Nolan Rivera
>Cliches are all the same They're definitely different you probably haven't read much of them with the whole slave buying, modern age wanking and city building cliches, dungeon managment cliches, just the general trend of 'scum' MCs and their revenge wank, stats, polygamy, Shoujo isekai with villainess reincarnation and so on and on and on.
Doesn't mean Different=Better though.
Nolan Young
nip meme relating to the proliferation of super cheat unbeatable MCs. The closest English approximation is probably something like "OMG I'M SO HAXX0RZ"
James James
Non-harem romcom isekai is the best isekai
Parker Reed
Harem romcom if MC gets to bang the girls is the best isekai.
Easton Collins
Pick one.
Nolan Mitchell
>Non-harem romcom isekai is the best isekai Those don't exist.
Joshua James
First work on your manner. I talked about the current isekai mean the isekai which about isekai harem series because we talked in current context. Second log horizon may be isekai because there is no confirmation that their world where they're trapped is not real world.
William Kelly
>Youjo Senki
Tyler Richardson
>First work on your manner. Newfag detected. You have to go back.
Jacob Peterson
The MCs afraid of seeing naked girls, trip and grab boobs accidentally, get beaten up and falsely accused of being a pervert, girls fall for him because he's a nice guy. Tsundere character, imouto character, oneesan character, maid outfits, nurse outfits, so on so forth. Those cliches are still there right?
Lincoln Gonzalez
Youjo senki is not the kind of isekai 'fad' that people described. People talked about harem isekai from narou and LN.
