Tomoya is the only person capable of giving her something like a normal life. If you don't end up with her in the VN, she doesn't have a role in any of the other routes (unlike the anime where he still helps her and she makes friends) so she presumably just stays a depressed shut-in wishing she was dead forever.

Tell them their Clannad walkthrough has a few errors then. On May 5 for Kotomi's route it should have "Confess" as an optional choice instead of "Don't tell her yet" as a mandatory choice. If you pick all of the optional choices (including Confess) there's some extra dialogue later on. It's also missing some other choices that you can't choose if you want her ending. The version uploaded on Steam fixed all of it.

Tomoyo was the first ending I got when I played the game since her route is super easy to get into and complete.

I thought it was interesting how in her OVA they changed Tomoya to make him a better person who tries to improve himself. In the game after he dumps her he just goes back to being a delinquent.

Oh, and they had him say some shit like "I'll go to where you are too," implying they'd meet halfway or something. In the vn she actually has to give up everything and says she'll just support him from the sidelines.

I'm not sure that's true. Tomoyo didn't actually want any of that stuff. It was a means to an end so she could save the sakura trees. That's why she says "It's finally over," etc. like she's relieved. It was true that Tomoya was dragging her down and stopping her from achieving that, and since he loved her he did the right thing and broke up with her. But beyond that he wasn't actually harming her because she didn't want those things. Honestly they were both stupid and should have just agreed to temporarily part or only see each other occasionally until she was finished.

All Clannads are the best except Tomoyo
