How do you choose which anime to pick up each season?

How do you choose which anime to pick up each season?

wait for the first week sales then only watch top 5

Instinct

>he doesn't know about anime choosing séances

I look at the thumbnail and then read the description on livechart/anicharts. If there's anything I like, I try the first 1-3 episodes and then decide to drop it or continue. Also during the Season Sup Forums can be an indicator on what's worth looking at (not what's actually good).

I just pick whatever interests me, but if I'm iffy on something I'll lurk some threads here. Even if a show seems bad there is a chance it'll be fun to watch and shitpost about it with Sup Forums.

i just pick up everything

I watch the ones that's the easiest to shitpost about.

>look at the thumbnail.
>see chara design.
>read description.
>watch 1st episode.
>done.

I just try everything unless it's something I definitely won't like/watch

I pick every CGDCT show and leave the rest for the vultures.

I start with the really anticipated ones, maybe due to the source material or because a famous writer/director is working on it. After I'm caught up on the must-see ones, I start working my way through the rest one by one according to their description and my mood. I usually finish the SoLs and moe first. I try not to drop anything if it's not horrendous.

I used to be like this, only to find myself having dropped most of them by mid-season.

If the description/first minute long PV doesn't immediately repel me I'll give the first three episodes a try, plus anything that looks like its shitposting materials (i.e Re:CREATORS.)

>see Upyo
>thought it's an Amanchu thread
>turned out to be cancerous meta rec thread

I use a dartboard and three or so darts. I also check if there is any scheduling conflicts with the previous result.

Studio loyalty regardless of it's quality.

watch the season pv reel, make a list, do the 3 ep rule and narrow it down

Sorry. I really enjoyed Amanchu and I would never have picked it up using my old style of selecting anime to watch, when I just looked for attractive female characters.

depends on how many screenshots people post in the threads

Whatever looks good or interesting, I watch it. Give it 4-5 episodes before deciding whether or not I drop it. There are about 32 shows that I'm interested in watching spring season so I'll be a busy fuck.

>I used to be like this, only to find myself having dropped most of them by mid-season.

Which is perfectly fine, the idea isn't to actually follow every single series. Just check them out and see if its interesting. I'll often drop shows I don't like the first episode of and only take a second look if it gets significant attention.

>check chart
>eliminate disgusting genres
>read about what's left
>choose up 10 titles
>3 episode rule
>sometimes pick something later if it turns out to be popular on Sup Forums despite being shit genre or shit in general like mayouiga

Yeah this. Most of the time it works since the majority of each season doesn't offer anything 'new'. Sometimes Sup Forums won't shut up about certain shows so I look into those but it doesn't take much reading to find out why it's popular.

I actually pick based on the pictures. If the art looks boring it probably is boring.

Amanchu has quite attractive female characters though?

Look up all the previews etc and whatever gets me interested I pick up first. Then after that I monitor various Sup Forums for anything I might have missed or want a second look at and if they interest me then I pick mire up. For the most part it is a gut feeling.

>Amanchu has quite attractive female characters though?

The show has a weird style though, it takes time to adjust to. It's similar to Windy Tales in that respect, which was another show I would have missed if I selected on visual appeal.

>weird style
Are you fucking blind?

I look for pictures of cute girls in the catalog, then ask if it's yuri.

I don't watch anime.

>He watches anime

I have 22 shows bookmarked for next season, i go by Synopsis and cover art and if there is one a PV, but if it sounds/interesting ill will at least check it out.

Hide all multi-coloured hair cute girl shit.
Hide all generic looking shonen.
Hide all clearly derivative shit.
Hide all tryhard edgy mature shit.
Hide all plots involving a sudden portal to another dimension.
Watch the remaining 3 shows.
Drop 1 because of bad animation and direction.
Drop 1 because it's boring.
Rate the other 7/10.

Rinse and repeat.

>watching seasonal shit.
Come on user, work on that backlog.

What a way to go about it.

Before season starts - See what's getting relative buzz
Start of season - Watch the first episode of any shows with a unique look or premise
3-4 weeks in - See if anyone is watching the ones that initially looked like generic garbage and check the m out if they're getting praise

Go to Sup Forums and find which one I can post baits and get the most replies.

Generally I try to avoid any mecha shows. I just make sure it's not mecha and watch an episode or two. If I don't like it or it is mecha I drop it. Mecha shows will be dropped.

Also when will the mecha genre finally die?

>Come on user, work on that backlog.

I want to, but they keep making new shows I have to watch if I want to keep up with Sup Forums. Anime moratorium when?

Still burned out watching

Friend recommendations and Sup Forums. If I don't find anything I'll watch old animes. I lurk Sup Forums a lot and check out anything I find interesting.

Scary Aqua is scary.

Read the synopsis and see how cute the girls are.

I only watch live action taiwanese shadow puppetry.

If you follow that mentality, anime seems a chore rather a pleasure. Most people on Sup Forums as of late are >300 shows, don't follow an inexperienced herd.

If it looks potentially unique or if I've seen the first series I'll give it a go

Mainly poster and genres (and sometimes studio). Rarely ever does the synopsis make the anime justice.

Only by looing at the character designs and the description. Sometimes a trailer will convince me or a premise.
I also consider have this space for anime that's popular on Sup Forums and give it a try too.

Source material, staff, tags, description and PV.

Shows done by meme studios are instantly picked.

Aria was weird, only picked it up for the setting. It grew onto me though and I'm in love with Hahi

Pretty much this. Give the synopsis a read and decide right there if I want to watch it or not.

I'd rather watch a show from my back-log I know I'll like than waste 30 episodes worth (3-episode-rule x 10 shows) of content I'm not enjoying. I hate over-sampling, especially for manga. Reading a ton of ch001s isn't a fun experience.

Whatever has the best reaction images

No Ecchi or harem tag is worth looking at

I look at the chart, eliminate shit I have no interest in like idol shows, then read the descriptions of what's remaining to give me a short list of things that caught my eye, then I look up the PV (or watch a compilation of all of them if it's available) which helps me further narrow it down.

I have 4 shows that I'm interested in for spring. from looking at the chart, I was interested in Warau Salesman, Sakura Quest, Kabukibu, and Alice to Zouroku. After watching PVs I'm interested in Warau, Sakura Quest, Sakurada Reset, and Ochouten Kazoku. Might still give Kabukibu and Alice a shot, but I'm less interested in them

pickup everything, watch everything. takes less than 2 hours a night if the schedule is good.

i go on anichart and read the little blurb next to every show, and look at the character designs, then wait until they start airing and start downloading the ones i'm the most curious about. also usually i watch season 2s, obviously.

like, next season, i'm interested in:
frame arms girl
twin angel break
sakura quest
id-0
zero kara hajimeru mahou no sho
hinako note
tsugumomo
clockwork planet
that j.c. staff show with a name that's way too long
that seven deadly sins show

and i know i won't be finishing half of these, but they all look even slightly interesting right now, so when it comes time to watch something, i'll take a look again and if they don't interest me anymore, they get skipped over. i also use Sup Forums to value what shows i watch, to an extent. one glance at a re:zero thread turned me off real hard, so it's hit or miss there.

read the synopsis, and then I choose, what I would like
sometimes, I pick up series, when many of Sup Forums (shit)post about it

Like anyone who actually cares about his entertainment I look up the screenwriter and director of every show that comes from a at least semi-capable studio and if they're both at least mediocre I'll give it a try if the synopsis picks my interest.

I go through the chart and see what looks good, e.g. CGDCT. I'll watch a bit of these and see if I'm enthusiastic about them and if not I'll drop them.

Then as the season progresses I check out what people on Sup Forums are enthusiastic about, look at gifs and whatnot, and check out the ones that look good, even if they're in genras I don't usually watch.

I usually try 10 to 15 shows but end up watching around 5 shows per season this way, but I'll watch more or less depending on whether I like what's available. I don't watch shows I don't enjoy, and drop shows frequently even in the second half of the cour.

Scary aqua is hot

I pick adaptions of things I've read so I can complain about the tiniest inconsistencies while enjoying it.

Checking through all the first episodes is actually the most happiest time every season, when I am bored.

I watch every single anime that airs every season, then drop what I don't like.

Porn

If the show has top tier artist doing lewds then its must be woth looking into it.

Is anyone else gonna check out A.T.O.M.

I sift through past seasons for what's good rather than pursuing the hot new thing.

This, except I only pick up about half. And usually drop about half of that if not more depending on the season. Winter was pretty damn good, let's see how well spring holds.

random selection and what Sup Forums tells me to watch

SoL with cute girls.

>pick up everything
>drop half of all shows less than 5 minutes into their respective first episode
>keep filtering it out until I'm only watching the decent stuff
It's not rocket science.
