Well it was stated at the start by Tanya that there is no way to win a WW, since the endless escalation will defeat any strategy or victory they might come up with. Only way to make out of it is to bleed the other nations dry of manpower while preserving your own, until they can fight no longer.

If Empire manages to preserve its fighting capability while everyone else has exhausted theirs, they are in a better final stand even with a surrender than with complete occupation and splintering of their lands.

They cant endlessly be set on hold to guard the beach in case the Republics exiled army makes a new landing somewhere unknown, especially with the NotUk coming in, the Ententes resistance waging a guerilla war against their occupiers, and the Russy starting to get some strange ideas from a god they dont believe in.

The empire is more easily overwhelmed with them surviving.

Those troops were not unarmed, and even if they were, they are now under the protection and the supplying of the NotUK and probably the NotUSA, who is more than happy to sell them all the weapons and gear they need to harass the Empire.

The Empire has no significant navy of its own, the UK dominates the seas completely. With that, once that boat leaves the docks, its unreachable to Empire.

And what made the UK join the war at first was at first their belief that NotGermany was collapsing, and they wanted to make a quick landgrab as well.

My point was that not destroying the french military command gives an invitation to the rest of the antagonists to step in. Instead of just Brittain declaring war on Germany, its instead Brittain coming in aid of the brave french freedom fighters.

It lowers the political cost to attacking germany, if there is a resistance in place that you can say you are supporting, instead of you yourself taking on the singlehanded task of bringing down a giant.

My hope is it's because she's in the process of becoming chancellor at the time of the flashback. Neither the Allies or the current Empire want her exploits publicly known and increasing her political faction's popularity.

that's more a problem with the society and standards of hierarchy. even just against zettour, somebody who respected her ability, she always kept up formal appearances because she knows at any point they can disgrace her and have her executed for not respecting the chain of command
