Is Yukihira Souma a good main character?
Shokugeki No Souma
Can you call a sore loser gary stu?
No, he's suppose to be the main character but he's getting the least amount of character development. I can't really say I like him
Once her wifes and fucks Megumi.
I think Soma's a pretty good protagonist and he works pretty well for what Shokugeki is
I have no problem with Souma, he's decent. My only complaint is I'd like to see one of his character flaws mess him up at some point.
I love Souma, I don't know why some people dislike him
Well, he isn't the best MC but he isn't the worst either. I just think he is a little "Gary Stu"
Yes he's decent
If you actually compare Soma from the beginning of the series and now, you can see the difference
A character getting stronger isn't character development
Souma is your average main character with happy-go-lucky personality
he is ok
Soma is one of the best character in the manga, he gets all the bitches and kicks the most ass
Yes, after more than 200 chapters, we really don't know much about him yet.
I don't know. I dropped because I found him obnoxious. I hate those airhead MC's that have zero personality and is instantly talented and everyone admires him. I bet he still doesn't have a personality. The worst type of protagonist.
He is ok when he interacts with people but everytime he is one match the manga becomes boring as fuck.
50/50 I'd said.
Serviceable
>I hate those airhead MC's that have zero personality
Soma has many personalities being; Energetic, Carefree, Cocky, Creative, etc
>instantly talented and everyone admires him
Soma was never talented. We were introduced into Soma who was only taught basic diner techniques with a passion for creativity who then improved later in the series and no one admired Soma at first including Megumi until they got to know Soma better.
>The worst type of protagonist.
fifty
i think he is a solid character for the series, and is a good protagonist. plus at the end of the second season you see the beginning of his character development and they ended it on that note so if they went further i am sure he will have many wins some interesting loses as he has before, where he learns adapts and grows. I mean come on this anime made my job as a chef look amazing. I have watched this entire anime over 4 times. and they are spot on with many things they state or talk about. I fux wit it
I like Souma
Not really, the series works just as good with Hayama or Kurokiba as mc's-
Pls no.
What?
I could see Erina as the protagonist of SnS shoujo version.
>Curry or Dog is the MC
I'd drop this manga after first chapter
Even Takumi's irrelevant brother would be a better MC than those two.
These two should be the mains
I understand why people would hate Pajeet but why the hate for based Dog ?
He is boring and split personality is the shittiest trope.
I like his seiyuu tho, would have been perfect for someone like Kuga
Either annoying with the bandana or bland as fuck without it.
Soma is an excellent MC.
Even the criticism directed at him ITT is not actually about the guy himself, but problems with the author and script.
He has best waifu in the bag so they are jealous of him.
He's bretty gud, my only complaint would be that he has no weakness. The manga is centered around students around the age group of 15-16, but it feels like i'm reading a manga about adults in their early 20's.
It's his lack of character development imo. There's no explanation as to why he goes berserk, or why he was working at a diner at such a young age all alone.
Or why even his name is japonese in fucking Finland.
Soma himself is a decent enough character. There's a lot of potential in him. The problem is the story itself leaves a lot to be desired.
No.
Hes not offensively bad either, hes just boring sinces hes portrayed as a stubborn, quickwitted chef with snowflake dad that turned the school upside down once he joined.
Meh, that's not a big deal. If it were people would start bitching about how the Aldinis have Japanese first names and can speak fluent Japanese despite living in Italy most of their life.
Well, they are halfu. It does't enterily explain it but it's something.
Also they have been in Japan for what? Like 4 years now?
Not even a year in the manga yet.
They are there since second year of middle school.
If you are a 12 yo boy, or a woman, yes
>If it were people would start bitching about how the Aldinis have Japanese first names and can speak fluent Japanese despite living in Italy most of their life.
But they did, hell when the manga first introduced them, many on Sup Forums was like why does this ginny have a japanese name?
He's not bad but he's tiring. Very tiring. I get that he's the main character but fucking hell he needs to ease off the spotlight a bit. His matches are boring because there's never anything at stake with his level 999 plot armor backing him. He also hasn't really developed much and still takes out his "unexpected" pleb shit for every match.
So many characters are introduced but they're always sidelined, job and are fucking squandered. The early autumn election and the death camp had the right idea where they showcased everyone's specialties. There were so many chances after the Autumn Election to showcase more people but it's been nothing but Souma for the past 80 chapters.
well we learned he's a sore loser without talent and relies on hard work to get shit done from his dad
He's a cool guy but I wish there was more character development for him. He's still pretty much the same as he was in chapter1 and while other characters go through more development he just stays the typical bland shounen MC.
I just hope he'll get some actual characterization in the future when Tsukuda finally decides to give us the backstory with his mother.
This guy gets it. Soma should take a backseat for a while so when he appears I'll really give a shit
>His matches are boring because there's never anything at stake with his level 999 plot armor backing him
This.
This is his average match
>Look the opponent is doing some crazy ass impressive shit
>EH?! Whats that Souma guy doing with x technique/ingredient? What a fucking throwaway match
>Judge judges opponents food with rave review
>Judge judges soums food saying its okay
>But wait! Souma has super special ingredient/feature you have to use to give it the true avant garde experience
>He wins
>Thank you for dining at Yukihira
Yes, but he's same as he was in first chapter. That's not character development
Don't forget the sauce.
The author said that his personality trait is mostly a result of his mother's death, so probably we'd get Soma's CD when we know his mom
It's only an issue when the character Souma is interacting with isn't interesting like Pajeet otherwise it doesn't bother me. I enjoy seeing him banter with his classmates, especially Erina. I'd actually go as far and say that a lot of the side characters really aren't that fun unless they're around Souma.
No, boring gary stu with boring personnality and it's the same for his whole fucking gang except Alice
I hate when the author takes too much time to start developing characters. Heck, even we got Erina's cd after 170 chapters
>MC has plot armor
Who would've thought.
Agree with you, SnS's strength is character interaction so far, not the matches itself
The "romance" is easily the worst part of the show, followed by the formulaec way it does matches.
Frankly Erina is a much worse character than Souma
I really despise this Momma's Boy cliche in shonen manga recently
The matches are always borimg because they are predictable.
I would say I had the most fun with Giganigga vs Takumi, Ryou vs Rentarou (even if I don't give a fuck about either) and the recently tag teams since it was comfy and there waan't anything at risk.
Souma vs Kuga was nice and probably my favorite Souma match, even if it wasn't a direct Shokugeki.
>"muh character development meme"
shut up
you know nothing about writing
you don't need to have character development to be a good character
soma was a strong memorable character from the beginning
character development is for weak characters who don't leave an impression
>Little boys being impacted by their mother's death makes them a mama's boy.
Is this supposed to be edgy?
>>>>>romance
It's not even a romance series, it's just implied Erina and Souma will end up together. There will be little to no romance at all up until the end where everything is tied together. Just like like Naruto, or Bleach, or literally any other battle shonen.
Anyone who expects romance from this series is just wasting their time. The most we'll ever get is cute moments.
I love both of those characters but you're full of shit
They're not at all suited to be the MC
Hardly. Who he interacts with isn't the problem. It's when. He's basically an ok character every time he's not cooking. Because whenever he cooks there's always plot armor backing him like I said. And he always pulls out his bullshit after his opponents raise their death flags. His unpredictability is predictable. Nothing is a surprise anymore with him.
He's going to get expelled? Oh man I wonder what's going to happen. He's going to quit cooking forever in a cooking manga? Of course he is. He's going to become the 1st seat's bitch? Surely that's going to happen. Souma's dad is going to become bad guy's dog, everyone is expelled, Erina becomes her dad's cum dumpster, and all restaurants in Japan get shut down? Yeah he's definitely losing here. Even if he does lose, it's conveniently in situations where the losses don't actually matter or he gets off scot-free regardless. Just watch.
Also maybe side characters could be more interesting and fun if they actually had the chance to. Literally what the fuck has the Polar Star dorm done since early Autumn Election? Why do the buttbros exist? I want Souma to lose halfway through and serve as support to the other chacters.
Because they're faggots with shit taste
It explains why they like losers like Alice as well
>he has no weakness
his dad constantly beats him in cooking matches
so?
Because he's a japanese person living in Finland you moron
No one can beat that fag.
Holy fuck
He doesn't need character development for fuck sake
I hope he won't become Ichigo 2.0 when shit hits the fan with his mom's backstory
Turning into an emofag is not character development you niggers it's character regression
I swear only anime/mangafags are the ones who go on and on about "muh character development" without knowing what it even means
The only thing I'd like to change about Soma would be him actually noticing Erina but this is fucking Shonen Jump so no fucking romance allowed
Muh grorious nippon. Just like how any hafu character almost always has a Japanese father. You're wondering why a Japanese series has pride in its own country and wants to star its own people no matter how far a stretch. If I didn't know any better I'd say Hayama was half Japanese too.
>The "romance"
What romance?
There is none in this series
He was amusing at first but got annoying because his shtick never changed.
The last time something interesting happened with him was when he fucked up during the training camp and had to think on his feet.
Maybe instead of focusing on Pajeet for 13 fucking chapters we could have instead invested that time towards other PSD member's matches.
What a god damn waste.
Half of the polar dorm is boring as fuck though. Nobody even cared about them showing up for the last 2-3 years.
Pajeet is also boring or even more. If there was chapters of them at least there would be some variety instead of "take my dish, now take it again but with sauce"
>Because whenever he cooks there's always plot armor backing him like I said.
Honestly how?
He lost to Mad Dog and Hayama in the finals and he lost to Shinomiya and Tsukasa so far so I don't get it
Peaked in the One-shot, was drawn better too.
All the Souma's shokugekis is so boring. It basically gives Souma plot armor since he won't lose with expulsion on the line. Look at the matches against Eizan and Curry. Boring af and no tension
>Hayama
>boring
I'm not saying Pajeet isn't boring as well, but whenever a new chapter rolls out it's not like anyone is thinking "GEE I WONDER WHAT THE POLAR STAR DORM IS UP TO TODAY!". The only fun ones are Ishiki and Yuki, everyone else are just background characters that can easily be forgotten.
Is this going to be like Nisekoi all over again?
Fans claiming the oneshot was better when clearly the series is miles better than the oneshot
I'm not talking about the series as a whole, just the main character, do you even read?
I honestly just waiting for characters like Hisako, Alice and Takumi to move in so I can give a fuck.
>Fans claiming the oneshot was better when clearly the series is miles better than the oneshot
Oh come on. In Nisekoi's case, you can't actually mean that.
Yes I actually can
I don't fucking like Chitoge in the oneshot
>Hisako
I can never take these opinion seriously because it's always just waifufags that want to get pandered to. They couldn't give a shit about where the story goes as long as their waifu gets screentime.
>Alice
I'll give you that. Her interactions with Erina are always interesting.
>Takumi
You can argue that he's already in the spotlight (for the time being anyway). He'll probably be in the spotlight again soon when he wins back his Mezzaluna back from Souma.
There was that time they put on riot gear.
>Soma's character in the one shot
"Your cooking is boring"
Fuck outta here, edgelord
Pajeet isn't the problem. I don't get why you're so focused on him. Souma is. You can still put closure on Hayama's story while showcasing other characters but Tsukuda chose to only showcase Souma's matches. Nose only took up 12 chapters while Souma's matches took up the last 80. And honestly Currynigger's matches are more interesting since at least he doesn't have invincible plot armor on him.
How about those other stalls during that whatever festival? Megumi had one and she had a pretty interesting looking senpai. Everyone else had one. No let's just focus entirely on Souma's while having the mob characters show up for a FRIENDSHIP moment. How about showing all the Elite 10 in action while wrecking the rebels? We could get proper introduction on them and their specialties. We could also see what the rebels learned from Erina and how they applied it. Not even their actual attempts were shown. Only just vague representations of their defeats.
All of these characters are so uninteresting too
I just want to know more about Azami tbqh
I really like the theme of Azami compared to the Dog eat Dog aspect of Tootsuki
It would me interesting to here what a SJW's take on it would be - since you have the cutthroat, but free ideology vs the cookie cutter but "kind" one
It's a shame there aren't schools that do the former anywhere
Soumas character in the 1 shot was an asshole and not all that relateable. Erina is about the same.
I like Hisako when she is being her own character like in Stagiaire. I know it barely happens now but I can hope.
Maybe for a side character. For a main character to not develop mentally throughout the story is shit tier writing, especially when the main character is forced into a new environment with completely new experiences.
>Soma's character in the one shot
>"Your cooking is boring"
That's not really all there is to it but..
>Fuck outta here, edgelord
edgelord? I see, you're just fucking retarded, carry on then.
Yeah but what made Hisako great from the stagiaire is how she interacted with Souma. I'm not sure what you could show her doing if she's not with Souma or Erina.
Tell me how many times Souma got expelled or quit cooking or let his dad become a slave. Nothing was at stake then so he could afford to lose for those. And even if he loses it just gets written off. I would have loved to see how Souma would handle being autist's bitch but he was let go.
Just watch. Even if Souma loses this most recent thing he'll get off the hook because he inspired Azami and gave him a change of heart and a new dick to slobber over or some shit.
I like the oneshot better because Erina is more of a MC than Souma
