My main problem is with the Japanese voice acting sounding terrible. I dont give a fuck about who does Nip nong ching chong better. They all sound the same and hearing them speak gibberish is not interesting.

Literal translations are why dubs usually sound awkward, aside from c-list actors. Simply because they're different languages, the way things are said in Japanese is simply different than how you'd say the same thing in another language. Even something as simple as the Japanese constantly using proper names while in English people usually just say "You" and let context decide who that "you" is.

You have to rewrite it to make it sound anything close to natural, if you insist on dubbing it. S;G is probably the closest I've ever seen to someone doing this properly.

I just got turned off by English VA's because I got tired of hearing the same VA's in every game from japan. and to a lesser extent anime.

Well, Dragon Ball Kai followed the original script as close as possible and its one of the best dubbed anime out there. It is possible to make quality dubs while following the original script.

Here in S;G they change from Kurisu asking Okabe if he'd try to perfect his Ultimate Technique if even he had some he loved, and blushing. They even got rid of the NyanNyan speak that Faris did.

Not to mention Faris sounds way less moe and doesn't do any NyanNyan speak. I'm scared what they did to Mayushii.

Nyan simply doesn't sound right outside of Japanese, since that's the Japanese interpretation of how a cat sounds.

See this is what I mean. A phrase like "Mayushi desu" just sounds fucking retarded. Since it's Japan, we just kind of accept it, but if you heard someone say that in English you'd dismiss them as a retard (which she is, I guess).

But that's a big part of their charm and character, its a process of neutering. In english its "meow" but they don't even do that in the anime.

It'll be good by default if they just follow the main route.

Every other anime entry in the Science Adventure series was shit. I have no reason to suspect this one will not be either; Steins;Gate was the lone exception, not the rule.

The dub is actually decent, there are a few weak parts in it but Kurisu and Okabe were spot on

After playing the VN earlier this year and watching the movie before playin 0, I felt the exact same way. It make none sense and is pure dumb fanservice. Glad is not canon and 0 completly shat over it.

The OVA is basically forcing Kurisu to experience the same type of trauma that Okabe went through to save Mayuri and Kurisu.

Also Okabe acts way out of character in this, there is no "Hououin Kyouma" in this. He doesn't bully Kurisu at all.

So out of character, definitely took me out of it and there after everything just felt pretty sloppy

S;G always hung by a thread. It had good characters, it had good bantz, but the plot just barely worked because it threw enough drama at you that you never stopped to think about the fact that half of it is nonsense ("Reading Steiner" is a bullshit plot contrivance so they can actually have a story within their own constraints, as an example of how precarious this house of cards was).

Someone please tell me why this stupid narration is in this? Like it seems really tacky to have the characters' inner thoughts now be splurged out in expository inner-dialogue to the audience like any other shit anime.

You know, Reading Steiner makes more sense after knowing the origin of the title and the concept of it. Search for Rudolf Steiner, there's even a little blog entry about the relation between S;G and Rudolf, wich is the most plausible source of the name and the philosophy behind the functioning of the Reading Steiner.
I had a class in uni about the guy and it was interesting, couldn't stop thinking about S;G and how it made a lot of sense.

The only good part of it was drunk Kurisu and the goodbye kiss.

The whole deal with changing observer was a nice idea to explore (for a movie at least), it's too bad they shat over it.

There's nothing wrong with Reading Steiner.

No expectations, don't plan on watching it.
