Thoughts on joining the military?

What are Sup Forums's thoughts on joining the military aside from fighting for Israel etc. Has anyone here previously served and what was your experience like? I really feel like I need to do something like that recently since I've come to a sort of motivational dead end in my life and I'm just finding no joy or pride in anything recently by which I mean the past 3 or 4 years.

>28
>relationship with gf of 6 years is getting incredibly boring and frustrating, I love her more than anything in the world but I feel like we'll split up soon
>work a shit IT job that I hate, dread going into work every day
>hardly ever see my friends anymore due to our work/life schedules never aligning
>becoming more dead inside every day

I feel like the military might give me a fresh start and a good opportunity to learn a new skill/trade if I go into engineering or something like that.

navy is cool.dump GF before she dumps you

>aside from fighting for Israel

Yeah, fighting for the Jews.
What kind of shitty slide thread is this?

British DFAC was the best food I had in Afghanistan.

Best decision I ever made. 6 years Navy then bounced.

its pretty cool way to gain a skill and some life experience.

im trying to commission myself, and yea i hope to come out with some project management experience

way more valuable than a college degree

plus you get to serve your country, get /fit/, shoot shit, and get paid for it. I'd say do it

>Thoughts on joining the military?
Why would you want to go fight and die for the sake of Israel?

Did 6 years US Army. I got two 2-year degrees in the Army, a language, a deployment where I saved $50,000, and when I got out, they paid for my Bachelor's degree. I wish I had joined sooner after high school.

Unironically might go muhreens but I'm a schizoid, I'd love to kill Korean commies and get fit as fuck though

I was gonna join the military but I fell for the college meme.

It's never too late

What do you hate about your IT job?

Just don't join the fucking navy what ever you do though mate, The army literally employs in Wayland prison so you'll have no trouble getting in. RAF Is fine but as your so old you won't get any piloting or even aircrew roles

...

Thanks guys

Me too m8, I'm 28 and I'm thinking of joining, I think the cut off age in Bongland is 32.

Nothing specifically, I've just become tired of the whole corporate culture and working in an office and sitting infront of a computer all day. It's just incredibly dull and I feel like I need a fresh start.

What's wrong with the Navy?
I wouldn't plan on piloting in the RAF anyway since I wear specs and I've heard you need 20/20 vision for that although I might be wrong.

did you go to DLI?

I'm there now

Is this also you? Or maybe everyone including me is getting tired of the corporate BS.

Joined the USMC at 28. Had a 4 year degree year degree in political science but enlisted due to a shit GPA. It will test you, and you'll regret your decision until you're a corporal (e4) but it will be the best choice of your life. I'm getting the hell out, but I have a master's degree waiting for me now thanks to the GI Bill. Above anything else, you will learn patience and how to deal with retards. You will also realize how ordinary you truly are. The majority of your first few years will probably be bitch work. Let me emphasize this again. Your life will suck ass until you're an nco. Good luck and be sure this is really what you want.

Well you better decide fast because 28 is starting to get a bit old.

For degrading boot camp work, yes.

I'm on wi-fi now, so maybe a different ID, but yeah I was at DLI. Chinese Mandarin Basic Course. I miss Monterey.

If you do join the military you can guarantee your GF will be gone. You don't sound like this is an issue for you though.

The military is a divorce/breakup machine.

USAF here btw.

Train yourself like you're in the army, Join a shooting club and go hiking instead. There is no glory in the modern west worth fighting for let alone dying for, you'll end up dazed, deaf and bleeding on the side of a sandy road with glass and steel peppered into your legs wondering if the price of oil has gone down yet so you can go home and get no mental or financial support because it's all going to the guy who planted the bomb that maimed you.

Who cheats, the person in the military or out?

It's great m8 they'll pay for your gender transition and then you can get your boipusy stuffed by all your combat buddies.

>the dog's face

Yes

Former coke dealer turned speedy cab driver ....net worth 40 grand and living in condo parents got for me when i came home from prison lol at casino right now chilling enjoying life

Joined @ 26 after working in legal field for 8 years and hating life. Best decision i ever made. Did 5 years as a corpsman, in nursing school now using GI bill. Be prepared to be treated like a child unless you rank up quick, which I did.

Should be a crime as it jeopardizes overseas missions.

Were you standard infantry?

Yeah that's me. I'm just in a bit of self pitying mood so I'm venting on here, I'm pretty serious about the military though, been thinking of it for years.

Yeah that's why I'm really considering it lately, I feel like if I don't do it by 30 I never will

My relationship is part of the reason why I'm considering it again, I'm fed up with my life and need a fresh start. I wanted to join when I got out of school but pussied out and another time when I was 19 or 20. I feel like I'm going to break up with her within the next few weeks, if I do I'm probably going to enlist.

My reason for wanting to join is to get away from my current life and start over again with some new skills. I'm not too interested in the glory of it or anything.

We don't want to turn any leafs on.

Yes.

Been in 5 years now, joined as a medic

Just got my paramedic degree last year and didnt pay a penny for it.

>My reason for wanting to join is to get away from my current life and start over again with some new skills. I'm not too interested in the glory of it or anything.
All the more reason not to get your legs blown off. Join the RAF.

From what I've seen the military is 95% swingin' dicks. Females are pretty rare. Usually it's the one at home that either cheats or calls it off.

I've had 3 major relationships in my life, and all of them partially failed because of the military lifestyle.

Do it. I joined the Burger Army and it is fucking horrible. I wake up every day miserable and counting the days until it ends. It is not fun, and you will not have fun. It is, however the best decision I ever made and I would do it again in a heart beat. It really is a chance to get a fresh start and turn your life around. Dump your gf though. There is nothing worse than being on your third week of basic, more tired and pissed off than you have ever been in your life, and getting a Dear John letter. Happened to several people I know and most of them quit because of it then regretted it for years after.

Dump your gf. Join. Better yourself. Get out after your first contract.

I think joining the military is honorable.

I would look up to you.

I don't know if the military would remove the bureaucratic / political element from work. There's no real way around group dynamics.

I've also been reading about how people take military careers where they can do IT/medicine/and so on. And there are private sector jobs they can hop into.

In general, I expect it being good for your status, since most people are doing absolutely nothing with their lives and being lazy - you'll spend a few solid years helping your country. People who get stuff done, like yourself, will find commonality with you.

>Yeah that's me.
And I'm the burger who responded to you, small world. Good luck, I knew someone who dropped out of college to join the navy, and now he's back in college on the GI Bill. He had some interesting experiences but ultimately was looking forward to exiting by the end.

Breed the girl first, before you get sent out

How about just joining for the training, getting kicked out on purpose. I-m sure many of the preppers/shtf peeps have thought about or even done this.

I really wanted Mandarin or Korean but I got MSA (USAF)

It's not bad though and I know a lot more than any of the other students about the middle east anyway so it's not like I'm totally disinterested in the language.

The area is great though and I have no idea how I'll feel 5 years from now but I'd definitely reenlist if I could first term retrain to Mandarin and come back.

I've met a lot of people here and in basic from Sup Forums though, and I mean people who were here long before the election.

I was in the Marines for four years. I would tell any willing soul to do it, although you might be disappointed with a few things. A) you'll be surprised at how many women are in it, and how the system caters to them. If you're a woman you should def join, because you'll have an easy ass time and essentially walk through a fun experience while getting banged like crazy. If you're a dude (which you are) you'll be denied pussy a lot -- but it'll make you a better man. Promise. Also, if you go, save evry penny you earn and don't buy a house, vehicle, tv, whatever until you get out. Then you'll be set to buy a piece of property and go back to school on the g.i. bill.

Worst advice possible. You'll have to pay child support when she cucks you and leaves you.

You could easily go Navy or Chair Force and have a sort of easy time of it.

That said, the military is the absolute last place you should go if you're depressed. You need to reevaluate your life because a well paying IT job is something millions of people in this country dream about having, whose only prospects of work are Wal-Mart and fast food for less than 12k a year.

Also voluntarily joining the military in general is a fucktarded idea, the GI Bill should never have gone away.

In Britcucklandia? Id say fuck that shit. Every Britcuck soldier I had the misfortune of bumping into on deployment was a gigantic fucking faggot. Even the Royal Marines. I forget which Commando these guys were but Christ Almighty.. I understand we aren't always going to see eye to eye but I draw the line at special operations troops making out with each other. I have never been so disgusted in my life.

>Royal Marines
>Mostly big bearmode guys
>Not lean powerhouses like us sf
>They all literally look like the type that goes to the gym to prep for the gayclub
>Making out with each other every fucking chance they got

it was fucking horrifying

Its not gay, its survival.

...

>I think joining the military is honorable
Abso-fucking-why?
>spend a few solid years helping your country
During this deep peace we're having? He'll be drain for tax money and nothing more, NEET in disguise. Total net loss all around.
>People who get stuff done
Pretty much the first thing we learned in service was how to avoid responsibility and effort without getting smoked.

...

>if you're depressed.

There are two ways the military will go for anyone.

>you either get motivated as fuck
>or you hate your life

If you take a non-grunt job the work environment has an entirely different climate.

>grunts - bunch of guys who dont give a shit about your feelings, if you are a pussy they will destroy you mentally, rules are extremely strictly enforced but most of them get broken constantly by everyone, everyones always trying to fuck with each other which winds up combining with the constantly broken rules causing massive piles of shit to role down hill and smash into anyone unfortunate enough to be caught dead with their hands in their pockets, what are you cold, pussy?

>Not Grunts - Same rules but with women in authority roles so when they get broken and hurt the wrong feelings your going to get dragged through the administrative mud by a bunch of catty cock craving lesbians. Faggots and niggers abound in non-grunt commands. You will find yourself thinking "wow this is exactly like being in a liberal college but I go lose my pay or get put on restriction or sent to military prison if I piss off the wrong wymyn.

If you are going to join the military, go grunt. If you want to get tech training, pick a grunt support mos, comms, heavy weapons/engineering, medic (btw I found out the hard way the navy does not fucking give accreditation for corpsman school, not that I ever wanted to be a nurse anyway that shits for women and faggots), etc and make sure your contract says in writing that you will go to an infantry command.

Any pog job and I guarantee you within several months you will be furious with how gay the fucking work environment is.

Only do it if you're trying to become a British SAS Soldier. Anything else, forget it.

USAF Ofag here, from what I've seen, you'll get the following:

Positives:
1)Your general shit together. There isn't another thing like it in the world to sort yourself out. You will become a better man, and you will have AMAZING experiences.

2) You'll make some of the most solid friendships in your life. You're all in the shit together.

3) You'll get free, invaluable training. I'm a pilotfag, so when I do my service I can walk into the airlines and make stupid money.

4) You can truly get your financial house setup for life, as long as you use dem bennies. Healthcare, housing, etc SMART and invest your pay and don't blow it all on a Ford Mustang with a 15% interest rate.

5) You will get to see the world. In the Air Force you WILL travel unless you're in some very niche job at only one base.

CONS:

1) A lot of the bases are in absolute shitholes. Cannon, Minot, Altus, etc.

2) Depending on your career, at some point you will be put into harms way. People will actually be trying to fucking kill you.

3) You will be sent to some of the biggest shitholes on the planet for indefinite periods of time.

4) It is extremely hard to start and maintain relationships. Between the locations, moving, and constantly travelling, you'll struggle. Most guys I've seen come in already married seem to do okay, but if you come in and try to start a new relationship you're gonna have a bad time. At least in the flying world.

Me too, i want to join the army here in mexico, i did my military service and i decided to join because i saw how the soldiers live. But yeah, give it a try is a nice experience.

useless youll do more for your country and community by starting local defence squads and hunting muzrats and commies in your home town

No. I'm pog ass data 0631 (former 0651). I couldn't imagine being infantry... I see those guys suffering with crazy shit all the time.

>Your general shit together. There isn't another thing like it in the world to sort yourself out.
Spotted the single mother's little poopsikin.

how are you going to get into graduate school with your shit GPA?

You're not wrong. I was raised by a single mother, and I did not have my shit sorted out.

If they find that puppy they could trace him and send a hit squad after him and his family.

He needs to maintain opsec

Once i realize i have nothing going for me in life that's when I'll become government property. No other way I would join.

There are universities that cater to military. National university will let me in, but I'll be on probation status immediately. Granted it is a low tier school, much lower than the university I went to, but it's still something. Or I get another bachelor's degree at my former school... Or hell, even go for a trade or (something I've always wanted) a pilots license. There are many things the GI Bill pays for,l; the hardest part is trying to figure out what I want to go for now... IT/data pays the bills and then some, but politics and languages are fun and interesting for me.

I didn't really get my life together until I was about 26 (and even then...) I really wish I had been in the military up until that time, building character and discipline, having all those experiences. However if my life was together I would have been able to pursue my passion anyway.

You should think about the moral implications OP, what would you actually be fighting/serving for? A country that spies on all its taxpayers, and whose defence budget includes funds to gaslight political dissedants and "persuade" the public on certain matters via covert social media engagement?

I don't think I could resolve my self with being in the military, but then again I think taxes are essentially genocide so maybe I'm not the best person to listen to.

Navy fag
So far so good, Im planning on doing my 20 years so far

how do people have a clean conscious fighting for the literal evil of the world?

You class up yet? Im still waiting

You do what you have to to protect those you are fighting with. In the end its coming out alive.

I graduated DLI almost eight years ago. I'm out of the Army now, but I miss it often. I would go back to DLI or go back to Afghanistan in a heartbeat.

Do well on your DLPT, Airman. Stay away from the Bull & Bear or whatever that place is called now.

>joining the military
>implying I'm a woman

Man, I feel for you IET people. I was in class the day afternoon I arrived at the Presidio.

Military is my dead end choice too. If my relationship goes I wont have any real direction in life and thought about joining the Navy or Airforce.

>During this deep peace we're having

>I wouldn't plan on piloting in the RAF anyway since I wear specs and I've heard you need 20/20 vision for that although I might be wrong.

you're probably better off joining the RAF given your age... you're not going to be a pilot anyway but if joining for a technical role then I don't think the vision requirements would be as strickt

I was an infantry reservist, served in Iraq - soldiering is hard! I was very fit as an 18 year old when I joined but ended up with a knee injury aged 26... you're a decade older than when I joined.. by the time you get through training you'll be more like 29 - pushing 30... I think the army would therefore be a bad move simply due to age - (sure there are some fat REMFs to be found but really you want to do this stuff properly)

RAF will probably give you a better lifestyle, tis the most civilian of the three services, you'll tend to get shorter operational tours of only 4 months duration (though they're more frequent). More importantly for you the physical requirements are lower (even for their supposedly "elite" RAF Regiment) and realistically you're mostly going to stay behind the wire on some fairly safe air base when deploying on operations... (well aside from the aircrew, and some INT guys.. oh and if you join the "elite" RAF Regiment you might patrol within a few hundred meters of the perimeter fence in WIMIK land rovers dressed up like an SAS patrol form gulf war 1... but back into the gates not long after and spend most of the day posing with the vehicles in front of pizza hut/ to try and impress the various RAF chicks...)

>joining military during peacetime

Literally why?

I say do it. My dad is a 28 year veteran of RCAF (later RNZAF) -- he makes 152k salary plus over 40k pension from his service in Canada. He's 50 years old and in rock solid shape and lesser men salute him a thousand times a day. He gets to travel a lot (Malaysia, Samoa, Vanuatu, Antarctica, etc) though I don't know if there is a lot of travel involved for British Armed Forces. There are times where he gets 4 or 5 days off work entirely and is on call for Search and Rescue.. usually happens at least once during these days off. Says it's exciting and makes him feel like his job makes a difference to people. The whole family gets full benefits for things like dental and physio even. Military paid entirely for my braces when I was a kid.

Right now I'm in law school and afterward I plan to serve at least 4 years as an infantryman and later paratrooper. Every military has a legal department so if I decide to make a career with the military I would become a Legal Officer -- they make comparable salaries to military doctors/dentists and are often used overseas to consult on things like international law.

One thing i suggest. ALWAYS remain loyal to the people you serve. Not the higher ups. The people.

Oh and I should mention that there are a fuckload of British people serving here. Dad's best friend is a 20 year RAF vet serving in NZ now -- there are lots of opportunities for commonwealthers to serve elsewhere. Many British in NZ/Aus forces.

>but I draw the line at special operations troops making out with each other.

haha spot the closeted gay who got triggered

it is a different mentality, perhaps you're a bit uptight, they're also quite keen on naked roll mat boxing, naked bars etc..

as for not lean powerhouses??? They're generally pretty good at the endurance side of things or they'd not get through the commando course

Suggestion: Get another job in another state and move. Dump the girl -- if you don't, you'll probably be divorced so be preemptive.

If the new job, new home and the freedom to date again doesn't cure you ... THEN, join the military.

I think conscription should be mandatory.

Minimum 1 year service at 18 with an option to refuse combat operations to appease the pacifist soyboys. I think this would solve a plethora of socioeconomic problems.

1. Gets you in shape -- obesity rate will fall dramatically.
2. Teaches you how to work as a team, how to follow directions and work together to get a job done
3. Teaches you how to be a leader
4. Teaches you self-respect
5. Zero tolerance for drug use/abuse -- will help delinquent kids get their shit together
6. Offers many opportunities to learn marketable skills e.g. mechanical engineering
7. Teaches you invaluable practical skills like how to find/build shelter, orienteering, how to make/set traps, how to tie knots, what plants are edible/inedible, how to start a fire, etc., etc.
8. Provides instant career opportunities
9. Builds a sense of pride in one's nation and people i.e. promotes nationalism (BTFO globalism)
10. Gives young people an extra year to figure out what they want to do (and it might just be something practical like mechanical engineering if you actually get them doing it) instead of wasting time doing useless "interesting" papers at university
10a. Gives young people time to "find themselves" without fucking off to Amsterdam and being a useless degenerate

Here's what you do. Take the ASVAB. Get a score. Then make a topic with the score and you'll get more relevant advice as to what jobs/rate/MOS you want.

Ask about duty. No recruiter will tell you about "duty" Imagine working on a Friday and your employer says you have to stay in the building Friday night through Sat. Morn and do a roving watch.

Just ask about duty. No recruiter will tell you because they'd get a lot less interest.

PS: Never join submarines. Never join submarines.Never join submarines. I feel like I save the life of a soul when I steer them away from submarines.

Also teaches self defense which is an invaluable skill for anyone to have, especially young women.

Oh New Zealander, you don't realize how stupid and welfare-like and stupid and awful the American military is. Maybe that would work in New Zealand but everything is shit in America.

die for israel

Just make sure to choose a useful MOS.

Something like Satellite Communications Systems Operator/Maintainer. Those type of certifications lead to $100,000 jobs outside of the service.

Here's an example video

youtu.be/d46D3B8z_a0

>work a shit IT job that I hate, dread going into work every day
HAHAHA enjoy swiping dirt because some faggot at twenty went to collage to be a officer.

>though I don't know if there is a lot of travel involved for British Armed Forces

there can be for people who want it even in peacetime - some INT and signals roles can offer plenty of opportunities for travelling - including to foreign embassies etc..

regular infantry units will still go off and train in Canada, Cyprus, Jordan, Brunei, Norway etc.. I think we recently started sending troops back to Belize too since Guatemala started being silly again (some of the seniors from my old unit had some interesting stories from there in the 90s... contacts with not just Guatemalan security forces but also drugs gangs etc.. in the jungle etc..)

All these Americans talking about what OP should do, as if OP is a burger himself. Come on, guys, you're fucking embarassing us.

nice gloss on naked authoritarianism, but no.

You'll be jumping from the pan and into the fire.

>individualism is important goy
>authoritarianism is bad
>muh 60 gorillion goy
If you are actually educated and not some peasant NCO, a career in the armed forces is one of the best economic choices you can realistically make. Even just a little time in the military is one of the best personal choices you can make. Practical skills, confidence, self-respect, teamwork. Yes, clearly it's all very jewish. Kill yourself.

it doesn't work like that so much in theBritish military... you chose to join say infantry, artillery, cavalry, signals, engineers etc..

in the case of infantry/cavalry you'd also chose the regiment i.e. your local regiment or perhaps a guards regiment (like Scots Guards if you're from Scotland, Coldstream Guards if you're from Northern England etc..) or maybe the Parachute regiment If you're fit enough to pass the selection tests.

But once you're in you could end up in a rifle platoon or mortar platoon etc.. - you don't get to chose that in the recruitment office - you just get to choose to be an infantry soldier - whether you become a machine gunner or a sniper later on isn't something you get a say in at that point

I plan to join this summer

>MAXIMUS EXAVIUS BRUTICUS OF THE S.P.Q.R
pure autism

Fuck I dont class up for another 2 months

lol, linguists never re-enlists

I joined the military. I didn't like it because I cry before going to sleep and i can't shower in front of other people but if you're the type of person for it then it will be fine.

do you watch the news

For the record the reason thats a problem for me is you sleep with other guys so they saw me crying at night and i tried to hide it but people saw.
