It was made by western Hollywood instead of Japan

>expecting a good movie when the source material isn't good

The jews lost this time, but they'll keep trying.

Its 3DPD so its shit.

Hollywood cyberpunk movies with a female lead always flop. Aeon Flux? Ultraviolet? Other shitty hollywood vomit-piles western studios made after ingesting japanimation. The Matrix: Girl Robocop edition tried to cast the biggest star power actress in Hollywood, and it still flopped - then again it doesn't help she's middle-aged, chunky and over-the-hill. Star Power is pretty much gone.

they didnt learn their lesson from dragon ball evolution or that 3d avatar the airbender movie

Everything. They got the past, the present and the future of Gits wrong. It's not even an adaptation at this point - they took a robocop script and slapped gits related images all over it. It just doesn't work. It got everything wrong. The image references were so obvious it was painful. The cgi town looked nice but so out of world. And you couldn't even get a proper shot of Borma's eyes to laugh your ass off.

they sound like fags

you making threads about it

japan did the aot movie and get berated for it

They made it into a generic amnesia revenge story. Rather than actually bothering with what the original story was about.

>Script level garbage

and they deserved it

They just copied certain scenes from the animes and made their own plot

not anime

Japanese Cinema is currently shit,
the Live Action AOT movie had garbage effects and laughable acting.

Basically robocop

>currently

Holywood got it's grubby little hands on my animu.

>hover over link, get that thumbnail
I ain't watching that shit.

>Aeon Flux
>Cyberpunk

Also it has nothing to do with having a female lead, hell that piece of shit Lucy did great. Has everything to do with this movie being shit, that is directed by a hack.

>Basing "Japanese cinema on anime adaptions

Well that is hilariously retarded for multiple reasons

I liked it.

>porc in the taco bell
>doing well

It has a lot of eye candy but with a mediocre plot.

Just like the first film.

The characters questioned their world too much.

Rather than acting out a story and letting us question the world, their motives, and provide a discussion platform for themes like the original, this film was made by a team who don't understand what they're writing about, adapting a franchise they didn't care about, to get money in the pockets of people who never wanted to know in the first place.

Batou's origins were dumb, but it was nice to see more of him than in the original, even if his character was rewritten a lot. Overall, its just stpuid ass Hollywood and even dumber dreamworks.

Now imagine if the john wick team had made it.

Nice try

Sup Forums should lve the movie since normalfags hate it.

In a perfect world Alex Garland would write and direct a live action GITS Movie.

Considering how horribly this is doing in the box office. I'm sure the majority of you will have your autism pleased that this means probably never getting another live action adaptation maybe ever.

I am extremely pleased. This is a good day.

I'm happy

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHH

Was Ghost in the Shell good before Stand Alone Complex?

It's a top tier Cyber Punk but a shit show in general, like Lain.

Live action Battle Angel next year. I actually have some hope for that one being decent given the people behind it. This movie was destined to fail though, sorry

I'll give you an honest answer that everyone will hate in this thread.

The movie was visually stunning and the world building was fantastic. This was the best film adaptation of any primary (see: pseudo: primary) source material I have ever seen, hands down.

The character's appearances, the aesthetic, and the entire cyber-punk/transhumanist vibe was all well done.

Now, everything else was dogshit due to the fact that this film forgot why it strived to be so visually stunning and faithful to the source material.

There was zero transhumanism 101 pontification that would jog the noggin of the viewer who had not previously had contact with the theories and ideals. Further, there was a sever lack of questioning the direction of the society and technology with Luddite concern trolling sprinkled in the human psychological deconstruction (that also didn't exist in the film).

This film was purely style over substance to the highest degree.
This was an uninspired amnesia identity plot wrapped in the Ghost in the Shell Franchise that lacked essential philosophical quandaries surrounding man's essence in the age of exponential technological advancement that wholly lacked competent characterization to connect the audience with the figures portrayed.

So, in short, we have a anime adaptation that was beautiful in the visual faithfulness department and was an absolute disaster everywhere else.

Competent writing could have saved this movie, but that's life.

It was great from the initial Manga. Shirow did some top tier shit before his horse porn career. I still dream of the day that his best work, Appleseed gets a good adaption.

Do you not understand the difference between that and a major studio movie?

>This was the best film adaptation of any primary (see: pseudo: primary) source material I have ever seen, hands down.
Stopped reading right there. This was basically Robocop with tits if this is the "best adaption you've seen" you need to watch more adaptions

From the story to the characters to even the visuals its NOTHING like Ghost in the Shell.

>Stand Alone Complex is shit
Good, good
>like Lain
YOU SHUT YOUR WHORE MOUTH!

See, you should read the entire post. I explained that it's the best visual adaptation and go on to explain that everything else is absolutely awful. But hey, keep not reading things all the way through, that's worked to your benefit so far in this life.

>I actually have some hope for that one being decent given the people behind it
Are you kidding? It's a Robert Rodriguez movie.

Better than a Rupert Sanders movie. He at least made the El Mariachi movies, From Dusk Till Dawn and Sin City. He can at least be seen as a hit and miss director. Sanders hasn't even had a hit. Not sure why the fuck they would choose him for Ghost in the Shell.

Not him but gook kino has been more enjoyable than nip cinema for the last few years. And I don't watch anime adaptations.

>The movie was visually stunning
it wasn't. Arrival and Shin Godzilla looked better and more interesting. this was on the same level as Batman V Superman or nu-Star Trek in terms of visuals.

Based on the script that Cameron had for the movie, and Weta. So yeah

Does this mean anime is safe from the normalfags for at least a little longer?

If Deathnote and Battle Angel flop, maybe

im not sure why everyone would hate that answer, because thats pretty much exactly what i expected.

I think the fate of anime adaptations in Hollywood lies on the success or failure of the Naruto movie by Lionsgate.

Why do people keep on implying death note can even flop? The majority of the viewers, even in Netflix's ideal scenario, will already pay for a Netflix subscription and will be paying for it whether they want it or not.

Yes, currently. Are people actually this retarded now? They used to have a bunch of great directors.

if it gets downboated to oblivion then that'll help to discourage the Jews to touch anime properties.

death note has to flop first

and when i say flop i mean critically flop, cause since its on netflix everyone and their mother will watch it.

I wouldn't count on it, netflix entries sit at 4-5 stars all the time

Which will never get made.

Being only a bad director and not a complete yes man like Sanders isn't much of a compliment.
>Cameron
Hasn't made a good movie since 1991 and can't help to drown his scripts in sappiness.

whities

the guy who produced Ghost in the Shell is also the producer of Naruto. so, he might make one last attempt at it with a more accessible anime property.

>Scarlet Jewhannson

With the Death Note movie as well as the supposed Akira, Battle Angel Alita, and Naruto movies being made do you think hollywood is just going to keep throwing mediocre anime adaptions at the wall until one of the sticks enough for them to milk it? is hollywood at its lowest point in history?

James Mangold to direct Trigun movie when?

>is hollywood at its lowest point in history?
probably the lowest point since the collapse of the studio system in the late 60s/early 70s

>Not sure why the fuck they would choose him for Ghost in the Shell.
Because this movie is mainly designed by the production committee. It is as far from auteurism as you can get. They just needed any random director to do their bidding.

The one on the left is a Male to female trans but Jesus that voice cought me by suprise

Is it really eating shit on sales? If so that's great news.

so powerful rangers is beating taco in the bell?

I only have hopes for the Tiger & Bunny live-action movie adaptation they announced some time ago.

Simple superhero story with perfect set-up for product placements people who are familiar with the source material would not have a problem with Fire Emblem because he was always a gay black superhero in the anime before this whole diversity thing took off.

We still looks like a dude.

It will probably do even worse than GitS considering GitS had ScarJo's name to it.

placements &* people

Whoops meant Female to Male trans.

Not to mention every ad showed her in the flesh colored skintight bodysuit. I was expecting it to sell well just based on that alone.

Fuck that, I want a Redline movie made by Edgar Wright.

March is a pretty tough month this year. then April has the Fast and Furious 1283719286418239129386 which is going to dominate the theatres.

they probably should have released this on February, but that would be admitting their movie is garbage.

Worked well for Deadpool.

>they probably should have released this on February, but that would be admitting their movie is garbage.

aren't you forgetting about FUCK YOU IT'S JANUARY?

deadpool had interest from audiences going into it's release

yeah, I was thinking about that. I don't think Fox really knew what a goldmine that movie was going to be. Reynolds just did it for the love of the character.

can't imagine Scarjo agreeing to have her movie release in February. she's got her street cred to protect.

ENDLESS TRASH

FUCK YOU IT'S FOREVER

literal sexist racist misogynistic bigoted white people actual hitler

So is it rated poorly because it sucks or because muh whitewashing

Most reviews I've seen have just described it as empty and soulless, so the former

but its forever now

>empty and soulless
So it's just like the animated film?
Because the only good Ghost in the Shell is the manga and the Stand Alone Complex series.

...

...

>Battle Angel flop
If Battle Angel actually comes out well, then I'll be happy. Shitty adaptations of series I really enjoy is kind of a double-edged sword.

I can agree with
this.

I didn't like the original film but I did enjoy SAC.

>tfw no Ron Perlman Batou ever

where is the anime edit?

Inherent idea.

People have less problems with adaptation of comics because 1)no one actually reads them 2)Americans have less problems when their people bastardize their material 3)there's a long history of adaptation of comics into screen that eventually resulted in current Marvel movies success.

Notice how no one batted an eye over ScarJo playing Russian spy, while there is nothing that indicates that Motoko was ever Asian in Ghost in the Shell.

But if you'll actually pick a comic you'll learn that Winter Soldier the movie has as much to do with Ed Brubaker's run on Captain America as Spook in the Hull (2017) with Ghost in the Shell.

People might never get adjusted to Hollywood adaptations of anime the same way adaptations of comics have become acceptable. I think cultural clash plays biggest role here, but let's be honest, Spook in the Husk is just not good on technical level, starting with ScarJo as the lead who learnt nothing from Lucy.

I'm pleased

>who learnt nothing from Lucy
why would she learn anything from it? it made mountains of cash so she probably thinks "i should just do this every time"

>completely gut a complex and interesting story to make a feature length action flick
Doomed from the start

>Wright
>not Miller
Wright should do something slightly more grounded.

>motoko kusanagi
>not asian

u derp much
