I enjoyed this show a lot more than I expected.
Drosselmeyer's a fucking cunt though, and he got away to go and ruin some other peoples lives.

Princess Tutu really is the best
It was my first magical girl show and I haven't found one as enjoyable since. This is considered magical girl, right?

>he got away to go and ruin some other peoples lives

And he was right.

Yup it's magical girl, and you're right about it being the best.

It was Madoka 9 years before Madoka.

Fuck off.

Yeah, it's magical girl and one of the best.

Would you marry this cat?

I enjoyed the music throughout the show. Some of the best Tchaikovsky I've heard.

No

When I grow up, I want to be just like Drosselmeyer!

Really now?

Stupid, sexy duck.

Shut up Autor

M-Meant for
I'm turning out to be useless again, aren't I.

Better stab that hand of yours, can't even post right!

I thought Fakir was such a faggot in the first few episodes, how did it turn out that he's so best boy?

>how did it turn out that he's so best boy?
I swear everyone has literally the same opinion of Fakyr.

Good character development is hard to come by, but Fakir (and the show in general) had it in spades.

S-Shut it!

Best character development ever. Best Tsundere

>Stupid
delete this

Do not sexualize the duck!

youtube.com/watch?v=tHZqxecCukg

Because Tutu excels at developing it's main characters.

youtube.com/watch?v=qwwDUYZAXVk

Can I sexualize the crow (human)?

...

>Princess Tutu
>Cardcaptor Sakura
>Minky Momo
What am I missing on my shortlist of the greatest mahou shoujo of all time? I'm aware Sailor Moon is not above; that is deliberate.

Sure. She's already been sexualized enough by the anime staff.

I was doubtful at first, but when I watched it, it really was motherfucking ninjas with guitars.

Mahou Tsukai Tai?

...

Wish I could find more.

thanks user, I love seeing stuff like this

I'd rank Flip Flappers up there. I felt it had a lot in common with Princess Tutu.

>Flip Flappers

>those ducks
>those drosselmeyers
Nice, thanks user

>Flip Flappers
>had a lot in common with Princess Tutu.

The fuck are you smoking

I've heard some decent things about Ashita no Nadja, if that counts.

>I enjoyed this show a lot more than I expected.
This is specifically why this show gets the goddamn guitar ninjas image.

What can I say, I like my magical girl anime to be heavily influenced by Grimm fairy tales, focused on a small cast, to contain references to a bunch of art and to be interested in the power of stories. Flip flap flop trip fits my taste like than nothing else but Tutu.

That user - I actually really, really liked Flip Flappers, but it's definitely not relevant here.

I guess you also like your magical girl anime to have a ton of QUALITY shit, to have a completely dreadful and rushed plot and to become a slog to watch once these two things collide in the last third of the show.

It's okay. It wouldn't be called good taste if everyone had it.

The second last image of the Flip Flappers Ed is a pretty clear reference to Tutu so I feel they were fairly cognisant of the similar ground they were treading.
It's got a swan, pulling back the curtains imagery and even has the robot mascot morph into a duck.

Even if we agree the imagery at the end of the ED is in reference to Tutu, which is arguable at best, having one reference is still miles away from making a show similar to whatever it's referencing.

>QUALITY shit
>Waah it doesn't look pretty!
Irrelevant if you have a mental age over than three.
>completely dreadful and rushed plot
Descriptive and illustrative criticism there. Enables me to understand your perspective even if I don't agree with it, hallmark of good writing. And the use of the word "completely" in your argument was a lovely touch.

Yeah, that's not an argument, buds.

Look, if you have enough shit taste to think Flip Flappers is good then all the power to you, but saying it's on the same level as Princess Tutu is just insulting the latter.

TAROOO

I'm sorry you feel that way user.

Flip Flap referenced so many things I find it hard to believe it wasn't an intentional nod. The director himself animated the ED so I feel it's pretty connected to his vision for the show.

I kind of already explained why I think the shows are similar.
see

Everything you mentioned are superficial similarities. Regardless of whether we agree on at which point something becomes "similar", I can get behind the fact that you instantly like anything that contains all those characteristics since that's something that happens to everyone (hell, I instantly like anything that has a protagonist with round glasses), but I will have to agree with the other anons that the part where you rank Flip Flappers just as high as Tutu is where you lost me.

How much you like something =/= how good it is

>saying it's on the same level as Princess Tutu
Something I never did. If you ask me, Princess Tutu is 9 or 10/10 and Flip Flappers is 7/10 maybe, one of the better shows in the season but nothing special in the long run. No, I just pointed out that your criticisms were childish and stupid.

You can like it just fine, but Princess Tutu far transcends the small list of reasons why you compare them. It's all in the execution and Princess Tutu delivers it beautifully and evocatively. It isn't just a collection of references. It's a story. I emphasize this because very few shows are stories. And it's not just based on stories or collections thereof. It's a story to itself. The characters aren't just nods to anything, but they're made to stand on their own as well, and they express themselves so earnestly that it's very easy to get attached to them. It centered itself around the ballet motif well. It wasn't just a memetic multiple indirection of references this and references that about ballet anime. It was about the ballet itself, and the expressive story the performing art tends to tell through mere, precise and graceful gesticulations, contrasted by a generally clumsy beginner level main character who stumbles through it, yet persists in trying to maintain her footing and stability as much as she still can.

It's a lot more powerful than what you're even saying of FF.

Alright I watched the first 13 episodes of Tutu.

I'm only going to watch the rest if Fakir is goddamn awesome in them.

Should I continue?

Yes, he is pretty awesome. You will not regret it.

>Something I never did.
[replying to a post about the greatest mahou shoujo of all time, which included Princess Tutu]
>I'd rank Flip Flappers up there.

>I just pointed out that your criticisms were childish and stupid.
Ain't that a childish and stupid attitude.

"goddamn awesome" is an understatement of how Fakir gets later on. Go for it.

>I'm only going to watch the rest if Fakir is goddamn awesome in them.
He is. The last 4 episodes are a ride.

Alright I'm in. Will report back in six hours.

Tutu and Fakir make me think of Lantis and Hikaru from Rayearth, kind of.

I found the fairy-tale focus and story meta narrative fairly central to both stories. I don't see those things as superficial.

The opera score and references in Tutu were essential to it as the illusion imagery and media references were to flip flappers.

Both shows mainly focus on developing three main characters while they go on a quest collecting pieces of another character. In both shows a crisis of identity conflicts all the main characters.

Quality will always be in the eyes of the beholder, but to deny the shows are similar seems silly to me.

*Ahiru
I got to stop calling her Tutu.

What's wrong with her eyes

>he got away to go and ruin some other peoples lives
He even surpassed the 2D realm.

as the guy who posted >I'd rank Flip Flappers up there.

you are confusing another user with me.

I don't agree with you but I'm glad Tutu effected you so strongly. It's one of my favourites as well.

No, seriously. Madofags shitpost Yuki Yuna to death but Madoka owes a pretty big debt to this anime. Homucifer's dress pretty much confirms this.

>opera score and references
>Princess Tutu
>a show about ballet
>opera scores and references
You don't know what you're talking about. Opera and ballet are definitely not the same things. You should know the difference between a work from the baroque period and a 15th century performance form that tends to be associated with the late romantic period music.

I'm not well versed in music of any age I'm afraid.
One of the reasons I liked Tutu was that it took something I thought I wouldn't care about and made it special. It didn't really grow my interest in ballet outside of the show though as my lack of knowledge immediately gives away. I just know that using authentic music was central to the show and greatly improved the experience.

How is it possible for one Krahe to be so hot?

Utterly derailing.

If dubs, I will enroll in the beginners ballet course my university is doing this summer.

If not, I'll just re-watch this great anime again.

Why isn't the trope of

>MC has someone they like
>The decide or it so happens it won't work out
>They get together with someone else who's even better
>Also only counts if first love interest was evil or a massive asshole or actually the other gender the whole time

It's a great one.

GUITAR NINJAS

I also like Flip Flapper but Princess Tutu is a different league all together. The closest i find is Madoka but feels wrong to compare them to each other.

and also MUKASHI MUKASHI

Goddamn she is so hot.

Tutu is Utena-lite minus the bitches and (man)whores

Which means it is infinity better since the gay has been removed.

Tutu isn't pretentious, though.

...

Stop. This is for Fakir's use only.

>I'm aware Sailor Moon is not above
What?

I want to believe he turned her back.

...

...

Kino transformation sequence honestly.

As the author, he was pretty much the God of the place, you simply can't overthrown your creator.
He wasn't even defeated, the only one that lost was the crow, Drosselmeyer just closed the story when he saw the characte even introduced changed the story to have a happy ending.

Like an author who put himself into a corner by adding too much good willed characters to his story of betrayal and suffering.

It is my favorite anime, I love it.

Tutu sound direction was amazing, every single composition meshed out perfectly with the scene, I haven't any other anime like it.

Is there any other one with such a good sound direction?
I would love to see it.

Couldn't get around watching the other season, even tho I enjoyed the first part. I felt it was completed beyond the other part.

We really don't get shoujo like this anymore, it's sad.

I haven't seen anything like it. It really only works when you have the music already done when the production begins.

And the people how put Flip Flappers above Tutu believe that they are smarter, right?
I like Flip Flappers also, but Tutu is just Kino.

Man I haven't watched Princess Tutu in a couple of years, I really should get around to rewatching, it's one of my favourite shows.

Ikuko Itou is a freaking goddess, creating such a wonderful anime and using her own lolvely character designs for it. She is one of those people in the anime industry I will always respect, not matter what crap she works on, be it past or future.

Also who /holdmenow/ here?
youtube.com/watch?v=tHZqxecCukg

I expect you watched up until Swan Lake which is undoubtedly the best episode and finished off the first act so well.

2nd Act did start out slow and suffered from coming off the back of that prior finale but it ramps up well at the end with a lot more worldbuilding covering Fakir and Drosselmeyer before the grand finale.

>the best episode
I disagree. The episode where they discover the town secret and Drosselmeyer takes Tutu is the best one on my opinion.

you're probably right, going by memory here and all I can recall is thoroughly enjoying scenes like the solo PD2 and that scene of Fakir realising Ahiru was the duck all along

Nothing is stopping him from doing it. I mean reality warping is only wrong when done without consent.

...

Ahiru is genuinely one of the cutest main character ever an in a non moeshit way
