To be honest, I watch this show pretty passively. I'm not really invested in it and to me it's mostly shit happening on my screen with some cool moments here and there. But a justification to root for Tanya I've heard from others on youtube is that from their perspective, Tanya is just trying to outsmart God and live a cozy life by using her salaryman skills. They're rooting for Tanya because God is "cheating" her out of the cozy lifestyle that she more or less achieved through her own hard work and talent.

Personally I don't root for Tanya but I haven't found anyone else to truly root for either. I only root for Du Lugo for the sake of posting stale "Leave Tanya to me!" memes.

Japan takes its religion very seriously, just not in the same way we would deem "serious" through our Judeo-Christian eyes.

The thing you need to understand is that the Abrahimic faiths are somewhat unusual in that they are orthodox. In other words, they do not emphasize what you do as much as what you believe. This is why the most important thing a Christian can do is recite the Apostelic Creed, and the most important thing a Muslim can do is recite the Shahada: it is a public declaration that you believe in a certain dogma.

On the other hand oriental religions, such as Shintoism but also Buddhism, Daoism and to a certain extent Hinduism as well, are orthoprax. In other words they value customs and rites over beliefs. Attend the proper ceremonies, go to the proper festivals, perform the correct rites and rituals and you're done.

To put it into more practical terms: an American who never goes to church but reads the Bible and declares his belief in core dogmas of Christianity (the trinity, the death and resurrection of Christ etc.) is a Christian in the eyes of other Christians. Shintoists don't understand this. In Japan a Shintoist who dismisses belief in Kami but attends temple ceremonies, writes down his wishes and folds them in a certain way to hang them on trees and attends festivals is considered a Shintoist by other Shintoists. Christians don't understand this. This is why you have surveys stating Japan is 90% Shinto while other surveys declare it's 90% atheist: it depends on whether you apply Eastern or Western standards for religiosity.
