Magic is mostly played IRL/F2F in game shops, and at sponsored tournaments. Official games and tourneys have judges. They have found some registered sex offender judges. WotC/Hasbro hasn't really addressed the issue head on, yet.

All they had to do was make simple screening a requirement. Not hard. Sub-contracting a function out to another company does not absolve you of all wrong doing by the sub, when you have the ability to dictate how the sub performs their work/function. Legally, Hasbro/WotC may be in the clear, but then again suits always find their way to the deepest pockets. Ethically, WotC/Hasbro have a responsibility to take some basic prophylactic steps to keep pedos away from kids.
